CASE STUDY Upofloor Quartz Tile Geneva High School Key Advantages: •The tile requires no wax alternative due to the factory PUR treatment-occupancy ready. •Quartz tile supports an indentation load limit of over 3500 PSI. •Cost and ease of maintenance. •Easy installation with minimal waste. •Superior environmental and sustainable attributes “The beauty and durability of the floor is superior to any other flooring I’ve experienced in over 30 years.” Geneva High School, in Geneva IL was looking to replace the flooring in its 55-year old building. Upofloor Quartz Tile was selected replacing existing VCT Fritz Tile. A spectrum of colors and intricate patterns were installed, which included multiple colors in the chipped design. According to Jeffrey Diehl, campus manager, Upofloor offered several advantages over VCT, the greatest being cost and ease of maintenance. “The cost and labor savings over the past year have been dramatic and will only grow over time, making for competitive life cycle costs. The cost savings in labor and maintenance alone more than justifies the cost of this product,” said Diehl. The tile requires no initial polishing due to the factory PUR treatment and a no-wax system is available for most applications. The tiles can be sealed at installation for protection if preferred, but can also be maintained with a no-wax alternative as well. The Quartz tile is resilient to continued abuse and scuff marks in heavily trafficked areas, particularly the cafeteria. If marks do happen, they are effortlessly removed after routine daily maintenance, with the appearance perfectly restored. According to Diehl, “The results are phenomenal as the floor appears as good as the day it was installed.” Another of Upofloor’s main selling points for the high school was durability. Aside from having to withstand approximately 2,000 students every day, Quartz Tile supports an indentation load limit of over 3500 psi. “The beauty and durability of the floor is superior to any other flooring I’ve experienced over 30 years,” said Diehl. Equal to the performance features of the product are its environmental and sustainable attributes. Upofloor Quartz Tile consists mostly of natural minerals such as quartz sand and calcium carbonates. The use of plasticizers is minimal; only bio-based, nontoxic and phthalate-free materials are accepted. The PVC is in the binder, not the plasticizer ensuring extremely low emissions into indoor air. Geneva High School is extremely satisfied with Upofloor Quartz Tile. “I would welcome the opportunity for anyone to visit the high school to see for themselves, the beauty and quality of the Quartz Tile,” said Diehl.
