Alabama Photo by Spyder Monkey Short-term Faculty-led Study Away Program Course Name: Multicultural Education and Diversity Civil Rights Tour Course Number: EDC 345 Introduction to Multicultural Education and Diversity Credit Hours: 3 undergraduate Course Overview & Objectives: Students will be provided the opportunity to witness first-hand the locations of significant historical events of the Civil Rights Movement and to meet with experts in the field as well as participants (foot-soldiers) of the movement. This will provide the students with a richer, fuller understanding and comprehension of the impact of these individuals and places on the history of 20th century America. Students will demonstrate an ability to critically evaluate historical discourse and to develop evidence-based conclusions about the past by examining and analyzing a variety of historical sources and interpretations. In particular, students will use oral history and testimony to improve their analysis of written documents. In particular, students will better understand the role of ordinary “local people” in social movements. Summer Intersession Program Fee: $1,715 Program Fee Includes: Transportation; lodging; entrance fees to all sites on itinerary; Study Away student fee. Separated costs not available. Program Fee Excludes: Meals, incidentals/ misc personal expenses, and souvenirs. MSU tuition ($612) for 3 hours of undergraduate credit. Application & Payment Procedures June 4, 2015: Final Presentations Missouri State University students and others who are approved by the Program Director may apply. Please provide proof of medical insurance. MSU Students: A non-refundable deposit of $257 will be billed to your University account upon application (deadline March 23, 2015). You will receive a final billing on April 10, 2015, for the balance of the program fee ($1,458). MSU course tuition ($612) will be billed to your University account separately and is due according to the university payment plan. Visiting Students: A non-refundable deposit of $257 must be paid through the Study Away Storefront on or before March 23, 2015. The balance of the program fee ($1,458) must be paid through the Study Away Storefront by April 17, 2015. MSU course tuition ($612) is also due by May 8, 2015 and must be paid at the bursar’s office or on-line through my.missouristate.edu. In order to ensure participation in this Study Away program, each student must pay the entire program fee by May 8, 2015. Alternatively, a student may show proof of the financial aid that will pay for the fee. If a student does not pay the program fee, or does not show proof of financial aid that is sufficient to cover the fee, the student will be withdrawn from the Study Away program, dropped from the course. Visiting students must also fully pay the tuition amount by May 8, 2015 in order to stay enrolled in the program. Estimated program fees are based on rates in effect on the publication date of this flyer and may be subject to change.
