Course Name: Multicultural Education
and Diversity Civil Rights Tour
Course Number: EDC 345 Introduction to
Multicultural Education and Diversity
Credit Hours: 3 undergraduate
Course Overview & Objectives:
Students will be provided the opportunity to
witness first-hand the locations of significant
historical events of the Civil Rights

field as well as participants (foot-soldiers) of
the movement. This will provide the
students with a richer, fuller understanding
and comprehension of the impact of these
individuals and places on the history of 20th
century America. Students will demonstrate
an ability to critically evaluate historical
discourse and to develop evidence-based
conclusions about the past by examining
and analyzing a variety of historical sources
and interpretations. In particular, students
will use oral history and testimony to
improve their analysis of written documents.
In particular, students will better understand
the role of ordinary “local people” in social
movements.
