Norfolk’s colorful 330-year history as you travel through the lovely historic district and restored areas. The tour will include
a walking portion past the majestic Battleship Wisconsin, the Taiwanese Pagoda, and the picturesque Freemason District.
You will also drive past the landmark St. Paul’s Church, the oldest building still standing which dates to 1739. Conclude the
journey at a nearby private country club for a festive International Themed Welcome Dinner where you will receive a
special Virginia Tartan gift and welcome entertainment from Tattoo performers.
Hotel: Springhill Suites, Norfolk (Lunch, Dinner)
Thursday, April 21, 2016
After breakfast, depart with your guide for the Virginia Beach Farmers Market. Taste your way through the abundance of
local produce and sample unique seasonal foods that only Virginia can offer. Your guide will lead you on a tasting tour and
allow free time to explore the market on your own. Next, travel to the Military Aviation Museum for the rich aviation history
of Virginia. A knowledgeable docent will share war stories and interesting facts as you weave through the meticulously
restored vintage aircraft and numerous other veteran vehicles. A boxed lunch will be served while at the Museum. Following
lunch arrive the Adam Thoroughgood House for a guided tour. Marvel at the 18th century architecture and furnishings
before strolling through the flowering, manicured gardens. Finish the day with views of the picturesque Rudee’s Inlet and an
early dinner at Rockafellers, a local’s favorite restaurant with a fun, casual beach vibe specializing in seafood.
(Breakfast, Box Lunch, Dinner)
Friday, April 22, 2016
After breakfast, meet your guide and depart for a tour of Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval installation in the world.
Pass the historic homes built for the 1907 Jamestown Exposition on “Admiral’s Row” and drive by the military vessels,
including the magnificent battleships. An active-duty military personnel will board the motorcoach and narrate throughout
the base. Next unwind over lunch and a glass of wine at Mermaid Winery, Norfolk’s only urban winery located in the heart
of historic Ghent. Enjoy some time to explore the unique shops before tour and tasting at Rowena’s, a nationally acclaimed
bakeshop which has been producing delicious cakes and curds for over 30 years. Relax back at the hotel before heading
downtown for a fun-filled night at The Virginia International Tattoo. Festivities will kick-off with the official Flag Raising of all
28 NATO nations. This ceremonial experience will be followed by Tattoo Hullabaloo, featuring lively entertainment acts and a
seated, boxed dinner from a local restaurant. Then it’s on to the grand finale—the Virginia International Tattoo performance,
the largest Tattoo in the United States. See pageantry and patriotism, spirit and spectacle, talent and teamwork, precision
personified! (Breakfast, Lunch, Boxed Dinner)
Saturday, April 23, 2016
Following breakfast meet your guide and depart for Nauticus, a naval museum, to learn about the power of the sea, experience
ship handling first hand and pet a shark. There will be free time for a self-guided tour of the Battleship Wisconsin—the
largest battleship that served in WWII, the Korean War and the Persian Gulf War. Walk the short distance for reserved seating
at the Parade of Nations which features marching bands, Tattoo performers, dazzling floats and decorated NATO officials,
all representing NATO nations. Walk the short distance to Town Point Park for NATO Fest, a cultural experience of food,
drink and entertainment. The 28 NATO countries will showcase their unique cultures in a festival-style format. Lunch will be
on your own today. Spend the afternoon unwinding at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens in full bloom. Take a trackless tram
to explore 155-acres of rare flowers, mature forests and one of the largest collections of azaleas, camellias, and roses on the
East Coast. Then it’s on to the Chrysler Museum of Art where you will enjoy a guided tour and view the works of Degas,
Matisse, Picasso, Gauguin, and Warhol. Relax back at the hotel before having a three-course dinner at a locally owned Norfolk
restaurant. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Sunday, April 24, 2016
Following check-out, travel to Norfolk’s Town Point Park to the Waterside Dock to board the American Rover Sailing
Schooner. This three-masted topsail schooner offers hands-on opportunities to set the bright red sails, steer the wooden
vessel and even learn a thing or two about ropes and knot tying on this interactive sailing experience. For those who
prefer simply to relax, they can sit back, listen to the live guitarist and enjoy the beautiful scenery. The Captain will provide
informative narration about this historic harbor and the Port of Virginia. Below decks you will find two smartly appointed
climate-controlled lounges, ship’s store and bar, and rest rooms. Brunch will be provided on board. Following the cruise
depart for Central Pennsylvania with rest and meal stops en route. (Brunch)
