SOUTH CAROLINA is in what is considered the Deep South of the U.S.A. It was
one of the original 13 states of the colonies that declared independence from the British Crown during the American Revolution. It was the first state to secede from the
Union at the beginning of the American Civil War and was the founding State of the
Confederate States of America.. Presently, the State has a population of almost 5
million residents. The capital is Columbia where the first Lions Club was established
in 1922.
