History and Archaeology of Roman Britain Field School Instructor

Queen’s University (Canada), Bader International Study Centre is looking for
a Historian to act as co-Instructor for CLST 206 Roman Britain this summer
term. This course is an exploration of the History and Archaeology of Roman
Britain from the expeditions of Julius Caesar in 55 B.C. to the Roman
withdrawal in 411 A.D. It includes on-site instruction in excavation and
archaeological practice, and visits to major Roman sites about the United Kingdom.
The Historian’s role will be to plan and deliver an intensive two-week course of twice-daily
classroom sessions in Roman History from 9 May to 20 May, 2016. You will also lead one
field study to a nearby site, and set, evaluate and mark student papers. We anticipate a
small group of about eight students for the program this summer.
You will work under the guidance of the Field School Director to ensure coherence between
your classroom teaching and the practical archaeology delivered by other staff members.
The compensation is £2000, and we have cheap faculty accommodation and meals available
on campus if required.
We are located at Herstmonceux Castle in East Sussex, 90 minutes by train and taxi from
London to Polegate.
A completed or in-progress PhD in a relevant field is required.
We are working under a tight deadline, so please submit a CV and covering letter to me at
your first opportunity. Dr Christian Lloyd, Academic Director [email protected].
