MESSENGER Volume 51 Issue 7 July 2016 Rev. Bobby Morrow Senior Pastor [email protected] It is hard to believe, but the joint parking deck project with the YMCA is about to begin construction. Actually, if you have been on campus this week you have already seen the construction fences go up. This really is an incredible blessing for the church. Let me remind you of some of the details of that joint project. We will have exclusive access to 384 parking spaces in the deck on Sunday mornings. We will have 75 reserved spaces on Wednesday nights and a first come first serve access to the deck 24/7. All cost for security, maintenance, landscaping and lighting will be paid for by the YMCA. Every dollar of construction cost is paid for by the YMCA. In addition, the church will receive over the 70 year life of the lease more than 5 million dollars in land lease payments. Current space in our upper parking lot, bordered by Lexington, South and Caldwell streets, that is being leased by the Y will return to our exclusive use. Our Special Purpose Committee has done a spectacular job. The construction of the new deck is scheduled to take 6 months. It is our hope that we would begin parking in the new deck January of 2017. This is great news. It does present some challenges for us during that time though. What has been extremely difficult parking issues during this six months will become impossible issues. There will not be enough parking to have all of our regular activities during the week. We have rescheduled all outside groups that use our property during this time because of the lack of parking. This will be temporary and we can’t wait to get them back on campus, but it will be in 2017. Many of you have been very frustrated with our parking on Wednesday nights. It can be very difficult to find a place to park. It is one reason the deck was so important for us to have access to. It will be much, much worse for the construction period. For that reason, the staff has devised an alternate plan to make sure that we will continue to provide the program we believe is important to the life of the church during this time. Below you will find an outline of the schedule we propose for the Fall. Please keep in mind it is not perfect. It is for a short period of time and I know you are going to agree it makes the most sense for us during construction. In His Love, FALL SCHEDULE Please mark your calendars! This is a layout of our Fall schedule due to limited parking. The Christian Education Committee will be publicizing class options soon, and sign-ups will take place late August. STAY TUNED! It’s summertime and the livin’ is easy. Makes us want to get right down and run around the house barefoot singing that old tune. We’re talkin’ cut-offs, kite flyin’ at the beach, shagging, fishin’ flies and no school. We are entering those lazy, hazy days of summer, right? A long-awaited and much -needed season of relaxation and rest, as prescribed by God in Hebrews 4:9-11a. RAIN LOCATION: Fellowship Hall Honduras Mission Trip We return again this September to New Life Children’s Home in Honduras. Last year a team set up solar panels to help provide electricity to the site and helped to reconstruct their mission team living space. We will be doing more of the same again this year. There are a number of crews who come to share in the ministry of New Life, but very few are construction teams. We are very much needed and appreciated by the ministry. The date for this year’s trip is September 16-23 and the cost is $1,250.00. That is more than the last couple of times because of high air fare costs. If you would like to go with us this year, please let Bobby know and he will add you to the list. It is open to men and women. Notes of Thanks To the Staff and Pritchard Family, Dan and I thank you for all the prayers, cards and visits during my surgery and recovery. It’s such a blessing to be a part of this fellowship of love and ministry for our Lord and Savior. We love you, Sara Thompson To My Pritchard Family, What a blessing it is to belong to a church family that loves and cares for its people. For all the calls, visits, cards, food and prayers during my recent knee surgery and recovery, I am grateful. A special thanks to the staff who spent time with David, Marie and myself at the hospital. Thank you, Pritchard family, for your love and concern. In Christ, Sarah Foard What a joy and a privilege it is to have such a loving church family as Pritchard Memorial. I want to thank you for all the demonstrations of that love during my recent surgery and the ongoing rehabilitation. The cards, visits, food, phone calls and prayers have all been appreciated more than I know how to express. As inadequate as it is, thank you is all I can say. Millie Creech Scholarship Recipients Congratulations to the following seniors for their achievements at church and school. Summer Mission’s Collection We are planning to have our Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday again this year with Barringer Academic Center as our guests. That will take place in August, but we need to spend the summer preparing for that event. We are collecting school supplies, backpacks, belts, underwear, jeans and socks to help Barringer prepare for the new school year. Light weight jackets and hoodies are also great items to bring. We are also collecting food to help refill their food pantry. Single serving items are the best for this purpose. We want to have an exciting kickoff to the new school year for all of our students and our Barringer friends! PMBC Handy Man Ministry If you would like to help out with projects for both church members and folks in our local communities, please join us on Tuesday, July 12 at 6 PM on the 2nd floor of the Pritchard Building. We will have dinner (Price’s Chicken) and discuss several projects. Please contact Buck Boyd at 704-301-3494 or the church office if you can attend so we can get a head count for dinner. Crop Walk Collections We hope that you have been collecting for our hunger emphasis coming in October. We decided not to wait until the last minute to prepare for Crop Walk this year. In January we started collecting money to support this year’s efforts. We anticipate our largest offering to Crop Walk in years. If you have not started your collection to help eliminate hunger in Charlotte and around the world, we pray you will begin today! Would you like to get to know our community? Consider volunteering at Free Coffee Friday! Once a month, a group of Pritchard folks serve coffee, lemonade, donuts and/or Chick-fil-A biscuits to our neighbors driving by the church. We’d love to have you join us! Come share a smile and a kind word from 7:30-9:00 AM. Our next Free Coffee Friday is July 22. This book is placed in the Media Center in honor of Heather Robinson Weir by Barbara Herms (friend of Linda Robinson). NEW FICTION Traces of Guilt by Dee Henderson Evie Blackwell is an Illinois State Police detective and loves most of her life as such. She is a very skilled investigator and has steadily moved up through the ranks. Gabriel Thane is the sheriff in Carin County where he grew up and he loves his job. He cares deeply for the residents and is committed to upholding the law. He, too, thinks about finding a companion and marriage. Evie is sent to Carin Country to help launch a new task force focused on unsolved crimes and she will be working with the sheriff’s office. Studying old evidence unearths some surprises and she knows Gabriel Thane and his family will be key to the answers she seeks. The Witness by Robert Whitlow Parker is a young lawyer in a small, struggling North Carolina firm. He has a special gift that sets him apart - the ability to anticipate his opponent’s next move! This is part of his heritage - passed down from his ex-Nazi grandfather Franz Haus, who was known as the “general’s soothsayer” until the death of his own family which prompted him to desert the Third Reich and flee Germany. It doesn’t take long for Parker to realize that this gift, in the wrong hands, can be more dangerous than a deadly weapon. Are his prophetic abilities better left unused or will he learn to use them for good? This book is placed in the Media Center by the Hope Sunday School Class in memory of Ernest West. Football Faith by Rob Maaddi Football Faith will inspire you as 52 NFL players and coaches share their stories and how the success they are chasing comes from following God’s plan for their lives. This book was given by the Max Moyle Sunday School Class in memory of Hubert Holmes.
