In the early 1800s, just Northwest of the Wabash River Valley in Indiana, a village known as “Prophet’s Town” was to become the capitol of an Indian confederacy and a training center for its warriors. Shawnee brothers Tecumseh and Tenskwatawa “The Prophet” united many tribes to defend against the growing number of western settlers. In 1811, William Henry Harrison, then Governor of the Indiana Territory, organized a military expedition against the increasing menace of the federation of Indian tribes in Prophet’s Town. On November 7, 1811, after a 4 AM sneak attack by the Prophet’s warriors, followed by a fierce battle, General Harrison defeated the Prophet’s confederation at what is now a national historic landmark, Tippecanoe Battlefield, and all but ended the Indian wars in the Midwest. While Tippecanoe County is a place steeped in history, you will find plenty of warriors armed with “clubs” battling for the elusive hole-in-one because we offer some of the finest golf in the state. 217 236 120 60 175 A wide variety of great festivals can be enjoyed throughout the year.
