The Pastor’s Corner
Peace and Goodness to All!
This week we welcome, Fr. Raymond (Mon) Luiz, SA who has been
appointed as Associate Pastor here, by Cardinal Collins at the
recommendation of the Friars. Mon will be introduced at all the Masses this
weekend. Fr. Mon studied at Regis College of the University of Toronto and
was affiliated with the parish during his seminary years. He has spent the
past 9 years since his ordination to Priesthood at St. Joseph the Worker Parish
in Vancouver BC. We welcome him back to the Archdiocese of Toronto, to
the local community of the Friars of the Atonement and to his ministry here at
St. Joan of Arc. Mon will be in residence at our Laxton Ave friary a few
blocks from the parish.
Tuesday evening, we celebrated our annual Stewardship Salmon Sausage
Barbecue in the Friary Garden. It was fun to have Fr. Mon with us we have
pictures of him wearing Fr. Ryan’s beretta.(Fr. Ryan was one of the first
pastors here) If you’re old enough to remember what a beretta is, it’s a
blessing that you still have your memory. I want to thank Cathi Richardson,
Cyndi and Larry O’Grady for their help in this. We had a great turn out of
volunteers from our many parish ministries, it was a lovely evening and a
great time of fellowship and fun.

Two of our young men Liam Ferrar who helped with the RCIA program
for the last two years, and Liam Silvera who has helped with RCIA and has
been Cathi Richardson’s assistant with the Youth Group ministry, have gone
to Graymoor for the nest two months to participate in an internship program
at St Christopher’s Inn. This is a residence for homeless men and a alcohol
and drug addiction treatment center. This will be a time of vocational
discernment for them as well as an opportunity to experience ministry with
the Atonement Friars who are stationed at Graymoor. Let’s keep these young
men in our prayers and continue to pray for vocations to religious life and
priesthood.
Next week, I will meet my twin brother in Tupper Lake ,NY to race the
Tinman Triathlon. It involves a 4.4k swim, 90k bike and 42.2k run. This is a
training run for the Ironman in Lake Placid at the end of July. This year the
pledges and donations made for the Triathlon will be applied to new carpeting
for the Church. With the Centennial celebrations being in 2 years it would be
nice to have fresh carpeting in the Church for the celebrations.
Thank you for your prayers and donations as I participate in this year’s
events.
It was a great joy to celebrate the generosity of the many ministers and
stewards of our parish ministries, I am so grateful to all of you who make St.
Joan of Arc Parish the place of life worship and welcome that it is. Thank
you all for your dedication and service to our vibrant parish. May we always
live and proclaim the Gospel in our stewardship of God’s many gifts to us, as
we welcome all to come to know love and serve the Lord.
In the love and joy of Christ Jesus,
Fr. Dan

SHARELIFE
Living the Gospel by helping women in crisis…
Early in life, Tanya was unfortunately sexually abused by her extended family
in her native country, who regarded her as a worthless, dangerous person who
should be chained up. She became suicidal and was admitted into the hospital.
Tanya then fled to Canada as a refugee searching for safety and happiness.
She first came to Street Haven three years ago through their Learning Centre,
enrolling in the literacy and numeracy classes. The staff connected her to their
Emergency Shelter, where she stayed and had access to legal aid and other
vital supports to assist her through the refugee process. “I now have hope
since I came to ShareLife supported Street Haven and know that I have the
tools to move forward with my life.” shares Tanya. Street Haven helped
Tanya move forward with her life and she now lives in a safe home where she
can start again.
We are still accepting donations towards the parish campaign. We can accept
your donations until July 30th. We must have our money forwarded by the
July 31st, to the Archdiocese
Message from the Archdiocese
The United Nations has confirmed that South Sudan has 100,000 people
living in famine conditions. Reports suggest that 20 million people are on the
brink of starvation in the region. A declaration of famine has not been made
by the UN agencies since July 2011, when some 260,000 people died in
Somalia- half of them children under the age of five. The World must not let
those horrors be repeated. Our Government has created a “Famine Relief
Fund”. The Federal government will match every donation made up to June
30, 2017, by individuals to registered Canadian Charities participating in this
campaign. Humanitarian envelopes are at the entrance of the church for you
use. Please record your information on the outside, so we can include your
donation in your tax receipt.
MESSAGES FROM THE PARISH OFFICE

2) Please do not staple or tape your offertory envelopes shut. They stick to
