This Time in History
November 1, 1963 - South Vietnamese President Ngo Dinh Diem and
his brother Ngo Dinh Nhu were killed in a military coup.
November 7, 1811 - General William H. Harrison led 1,000 Americans in
battle, defeating the Shawnee Indians at the Battle of Tippecanoe Creek
near Lafayette, Indiana.
November 11, 1918 - At 5 a.m., in Marshal Foch's railway car in the
Forest of Compiegne, the Armistice between the Allied and Central
Powers was signed, silencing the guns of World War I effective at 11
a.m. – the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. In many
places in Europe, a moment of silence in memory of the millions of
fallen soldiers is still observed.
November 19-20, 1990 - The Cold War came to an end during a
summit in Paris as leaders of NATO and the Warsaw Pact signed a
Treaty on Conventional Forces in Europe, vastly reducing their
military arsenals.
Key 103 Mission Christmas
Our school is a collection point for Key 103’s Mission Christmas. They are
asking people to buy an extra present so that it can be given to a child who
otherwise might receive no gifts. All presents will be distributed to children
who live in the Greater Manchester area to make their Christmas morning
special. They need new and unwrapped gifts suitable for children and young
people aged 0-18 years.
If you wish to donate to this cause, you can drop of your gift at the main
reception until 8th December when they will be collected.
Children in Need
We raised £420.00 through donations for own clothes day on Friday 18th and
a further £144.40 for the raffle for the beautiful Pudsey Bear cake kindly
made and donated by Mrs Myall, Jack and Isabelle’s grandma. Miss
Warburton won the raffle and shared the cake with Year 5. Thank you to all
those who helped to raise such a wonderful amount.
Activities This Term
Year 6 went to Haldane barracks in Salford and took part in Crucial Crew. This
event is put in place by the emergency services including utility companies
and the railways.
Year 3 – 6 auditioned for a talent show and 14 acts were put through to the
final which took place on 18th November. The children showcased their
talents in front of years 3-6. Mrs Dunkley, Mrs Hamnett, Mrs Kennedy and
one of the Year 6 children who had organised the event were the judges. It
was very difficult choosing a winner and they eventually managed to choose
the winners for the different categories:
Overall winner – Kayla (Year 5)
Most entertaining act – Erin & Wakai (Year 6)
Best non – vocalist act – Tega & Gael (Year 3)
‘Special Mention’ Award – Tristan (Year 5)
We want to thank all the children for being brave enough to audition, it was
very hard to select the finalists as we have some very talented children in our
school and everyone had a great afternoon.
