TRIPURA UNIVERSITY (A Central University)
Tripura University epitomizes the aspirations of the state’s people for academic excellence at the
highest level and quest for knowledge. It is axiomatic that knowledge alone forms the basis of progress
and development in the present internet-driven world. However, successful dissemination of knowledge
and ease of accessibility to learners are also of crucial importance. With its cryptic motto ‘pursuit of
excellence’ Tripura University has dedicated itself to this noble task ever since it had been launched on
October 2, 1987. The dream of the state’s people had come true on the birth anniversary day of the
‘Father of the Nation’. A flash-back to the historical background of the university sheds fascinating light
on the series of developments that culminated in the setting up of the university. The Tripura University
formally came into being as a towering embodiment of the hopes and aspirations of the people. The
University Campus at Suryamaninagar is located 09 kilometer south of the capital city of Agartala.
Tripura University has been “Accredited” by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC),
Bangalore, in 2002. Tripura University has been converted into Central University in July, 2007.
DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLGY
The Department of Information Technology at the Tripura University has been started with the objective
of promoting research and development, industrial consultancy, and teaching in the frontier areas of
Information Technology. The department of Information Technology offers a unique combination of
courses and project that helps the students to cope with the recent advancements in the computer
industry and information technology. The Department currently offers Bachelors in Computer
Application (BCA) and Masters in Computer Application (MCA) programmes. “School of Information
Technology & Computer Science” was established in 2002 and introduced the BCA and MCA courses. It
was under the Directorate of Professional Studies (DPS) in Tripura University. In 2009 it converted into
“Department of Information Technology” of Tripura University (A Central University).
In addition to the academic programmes at the UG as well as the PG levels, the Department has been
carrying out active research in the fields of computer networks & wireless sensor networks, Medical
Image Processing, Computer & Robot Vision, and Software Engineering.
Mission and Vision
To provide world-class education in our chosen fields and prepare people of character, caliber and vision
to build the future world. We envision a world that totally belongs to the power of knowledge and
intelligence.
Scope
Over the last around 10 years we have evolved and perfected a unique approach to knowledge delivery
for our Information Technology programmes. We are deeply involved at all levels of the students’
academic life to ensure that from the time they step in to the campus they work towards excellence. We
emphasize on a curriculum that builds in knowledge gathering as well as higher order thinking skills.
