When you are ready to commit to the program follow the procedures listed:
1) Submit a completed Central Community College application. If you have not completed this step, you may apply
online at: www.cccneb.edu/Admissions Select “Apply” from the menu.

2) MAP (Mandatory Assessment and Placement)
Assessment - Prior to initial registration, applicants will take the COMPASS placement test to establish basic academic
skills. The pre-enrollment test may be waived based on prior college performance or other standardized test results.
Contact the Admissions office for details. A student may take General Education classes prior to admission into the Health
Information Management Services Program.
Schedule an assessment test at CCC 1-877-222-0780. If you anticipate earning a certificate, diploma, or
degree, please call to schedule an appointment to take the COMPASS pre-enrollment assessment. OR have your ACT
scores sent to the Admissions Office.
All certificate, diploma, and degree-seeking students, and those enrolling in a math, reading, writing, or English Language
Learner (ELL) course will be required to take a pre-enrollment assessment (COMPASS or ACT) unless exempt based
upon one of the following:
1. A student who has graduated with an associate or baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher
education.
2. A student who transfers to Central Community College from an accredited public, private, or independent institution of
higher education and who has earned a “C” or better in a pre-requisite or comparable college-level course as
determined by Central Community College, i.e., English Composition, College Algebra, a reading intensive course,
etc.
Scores within the past three calendar years will be accepted. For distance students, testing may be completed at a local
college and results sent to:

**Note: Registration in CCC Math and English courses would require assessment testing if the Math and English
prerequisites have not been met.
Upon completion of the application form and MAP (assessment) testing, you should receive a confirmation letter
from CCC admissions.
3) TRANSFER CREDITS (if applicable):
College transcripts are reviewed by the Registrar for any transfer credits. You, the student, need to request your college
transcripts be sent to CCC for review. The request MUST come from the student.

Sending your transcripts to another department or individual may delay the process.
4) Financial Aid and/or Scholarships: If you are interested in applying for financial aid (grants and loans),
complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You can apply on-line at www.fafsa.ed.gov. (Call the
financial aid office if you feel more comfortable with a paper application.) Scholarship information is available at the CCC
website (www.cccneb.edu, click on “Financial Aid”).

Keep a copy of the HIMS Handbook with detailed information about the HIMS Program area. You will receive the
information in the HIMS 1250 Intro to Health Information Management course.
Additional program costs not covered by financial aid include student in practicum insurance, immunizations, and
a background check.
Minimum Grade Requirement: Students enrolled in HIMS must achieve a minimum "C" grade in all courses to
successfully graduate from the program. Students who do not meet the minimum grade will be required to repeat
the course. In addition, a higher-level course, which requires the course as a prerequisite, may not be taken until
satisfactory completion is achieved.
CCC schedules courses on a 16 week semester with courses starting in August, January, and a 10 week session
starting in May. Refer to the CCC web site for specific dates and course listings.
ALL HIMS courses are available via Online Learning (web) format. There may be individual course requirements
which mandate the student to make arrangements to come to campus or use available Internet audio and video
services to communicate. The student will need to make arrangements as required.
To be eligible to sit for the national RHIT exam, an applicant must be a:
o high school graduate, completed an approved home school program or have passed a standard
equivalency test (G.E.D.) And
o Associate of Applied Science (AAS) Degree graduate from an accredited Health Information Management
Program (HIMS) program.
