ST DOMINIC’S PRE-SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 9 25 July 2016 Mandela Day One School, One Family, One Spirit ST DOMINIC’S PRE-SCHOOL Page 2 Random Acts of Kindness The cold weather of recent reminds us how blessed and priviledged we are to have such warm homes and an adundance and choice of food. While driving around in our comfortable cars, it’s heart breaking to see so many people walking around and living on the ice cold streets. We were wowed by the response from our request for beanies, scares and gloves. You’ve certainly warmed up some really cold people. On Mandela Day, our Pre-school staff took all your donations, sandwiches and soup around Boksburg and handed the above out to those in need. We handed out 120 packages. This outing was extremely heart warming but also left us all with a sadness in the knowledge that although we assisted some on Monday, there are thousands in need every day. We should perhaps consider Random Acts of Kindness everyday! One small Act of Kindness goes a long way in brightening someone’s day. As parents and teachers we should be setting the example to our children. Lets live by the motto—”one random act of kindness goes a long way to brightening the lives, of those less fortunate than ourselves”. Having said that, a random act of kindness to family, colleagues and friends might just be the spark that makes a difference to someone’s day! WHAT’S A RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS? An act of kindness is just that–something unexpected done by one person that blesses someone else. Sometimes these acts of kindness are done anonymously (or not). And sometimes a person personally knows the person receiving the kindness act (and sometimes not)! No matter what you decide to do, if you’re helping someone else, you’re performing an act of kindness! Random acts of kindness for kids are really fun! Best of all, they encourage kids to think outside of themselves and begin asking, “How can my life change others?” Kindness acts encourage kids to think like world changers! Page 3 ST DOMINIC’S PRE-SCHOOL PJ Day Our annual PJ Da went off wonderfully on July 1st. This year we combined this day with Slipper Day. The money collected for slipper day is being forward to the Reach for a Dream Foundation for Slipper Day. We raised a total of R6 976.80 for this worthy cause. PAGE 4 ST DOMINIC’S PRE-SCHOOL Charity—St Francis Please check the list below from St Frances Care Centre. If there is anything you can assist with, please let us have it by Friday next week as we would like to deliver these items to them. Our charity bottle money will also be handed over to them! We are very excited to confirm the establishment of our 2-3 year old group—the Doodlebugs. This group is for both boys and girls. We will be hosting a launch of this class on Thursday 4 August @ 18h00. The purpose of this launch is to give any prospective parents the vital info regarding this group. Please note that space is limited for this class and its filling up quickly. Children will be accepted on a first come, first admitted process. Enrolment forms are available from Michelle. Some points to consider : There is no deposit payable ie R5000, this will only be payable when your child enters Grade 000 at either St Dominic’s or CBC. There will be aftercare available at no additional charge. The class is located within the Pre-school at St Dominic’s. Page 5 St Dominic’s Pre-School Playground You may be wondering what happened to our Tyre Hill, our Beetle Bug and what Uncle Eric is doing in Our African Garden. Well we have some exciting projects in progress. Unfortunately we had to remove the tyre hill as it was sinking and becoming a danger for our girls. The Beetle Bug has gone in for a much needed facelift. After approaching PPC Cement, we received a donation of 25 bags of cement. Our plan is to lay a slab in the African Garden, covered with a screed in which we will place all our girls handprints as part of our 25 year celebrations. Soon we will have a new look African Play area. The other project is to create a “splashpad” where the tyre hill used to stand. This will be used during summer as a water play area and in winter as a creative play area. We have not forgotten about the money you parents raised through the raffle. I am busy finalizing the cycle track. We are consulting with our PTP to cover the hill with artificial grass, in conjunction with the cycle track. Art Exhibition What a pleasure to walk around and see the skills and talents of all our girls. Thank you to Mrs Brennan and the Art department for hosting our successful art Exhibition Page 6 St Dominic’s Pre-School St Dominic’s Pre-School Drummies Drummie National Results Small drill Leader (4th) Subbies Squad Display Overall Large drill Leader (4th) Subbies Squad Display Overall Throwing prop Flag group Pom non prop All FIRST!!!
