Curt, Ambria and Grace
Brighton Elves
Grace, Ambria and Curt came to the
office to help decorate and pack bags
for the Homebound Seniors who
would be receiving a Christmas meal.
DTE Energy Company donated cold
packs to each Homebound Senior.
Grace and Curt have been helping out
at Christmas time for 4 years. THANKYOU for your wonderful Holiday help.
We are not able to call
you individually when
weather conditions
prevent us from delivering your meal. The
general rule is that when schools in
your county are closed, the roads are
unsafe for your driver to deliver your
meal. Listen to your local radio or TV
station for the latest information on
school closings. This is a good time to
use the shelf meals that we send out.
We will resume delivering your meals
as soon as the weather permits.
Hartland Garden Club
A special thank-you to the Hartland
Garden Club who provided Hartland
Homebound Seniors with beautiful

Consider Annuities For Dependable Retirement Income
More than 10,000 Baby
Boomers will turn 65
today, and about 10,000
more will cross that
threshold every day
for the next 13 years.
Few of them, however,
will take the time to
adequately plan for
the next phase of their
lives.
Many Americans expect Social
Security to provide much of
their retirement income, despite growing concerns about
the reliability of future payouts.
The federal insurance program–
once considered a dependable
source of retirement income–is
now less certain as Boomers begin receiving benefits at a rate
greater than what is flowing
into the system.
According to a recent study
commissioned by the Bankers
Life Center for a Secure Retirement, nearly three-fourths of
middle-income Americans say
that Social Security benefits
make up at least half of their retirement income.
fixed rate of interest and accumulates on a tax-deferred basis,
meaning you do not pay taxes
on your earnings until you actually withdraw them from
your policy.
Annuities can be a dependable, longterm means of retirement savings.
annuities are widely considered
a secure, dependable option for
retirement planning.
• The principal investment is
not affected by market gains
or losses.
• Earnings accumulate on an
income-tax-deferred basis.
• In most cases, an annuity
payout can be completed
without a lawyer.
There are many different types
of annuities.
Fixed Interest Annuity. This
product is designed to help you
accumulate funds for your retirement. The money in your
annuity earns a guaranteed
Fixed Indexed Annuity. A fixed
indexed annuity provides the
guarantees that come with fixed
annuities but is combined with
the opportunity to earn interest
based on changes in an external
market index. Because you are
not actually participating in the
market, the money in your annuity is not at risk.
Immediate Annuity. An immediate annuity is purchased
with a single lump-sum payment and, in exchange, pays a
guaranteed income stream that
starts almost immediately.
Many of the variables that affect
retirement security are in your
hands. Talk to your trusted financial advisor and learn about
the retirement planning options
available to you today, so you
can ensure a secure tomorrow.
Financial experts, however, say
annuities may be the better option for a dependable, long-term
means of retirement savings.
Annuities function like reverse
insurance: the owner pays a
lump sum and receives payouts. There are several reasons

EyeCare America Helps
Save Seniors’ Sight
It’s a fact of life. When people reach their senior
years, they are at high risk for developing agerelated eye diseases that can lead to blindness
if not caught and
treated in time.
The good news
is that people can
take steps to protect themselves.
The first step is to
get a simple, pain- You may be able to improve your

an ophthalmologist, the medical doctors that detect and treat these conditions. To help seniors who
haven’t seen an ophthalmologist in three or more
years, the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s
EyeCare America program may be able to help.
This public service program has been matching
Americans 65 and older with volunteer ophthalmologists across the country for more than 30
years. EyeCare America volunteers provide eligible seniors with medical eye exams often at no
out-of-pocket cost, and up to one year of followup care for any condition diagnosed during the
initial exam for the physician services. The program also offers a glaucoma eye exam to eligible,
uninsured individuals who are at increased risk
for glaucoma, determined by their age, race and
family history.
Other Ways EyeCare America Can Help: Drug
Discounts
Connecting people with a volunteer ophthalmologist isn’t the only way EyeCare America helps
seniors. It can also help people deal with the challenges of affording prescription medications. This
can be helpful, especially to seniors who may live
on a fixed income.
EyeCare America’s new drug discount card can
help people save up to 80% on drug costs. It can
be used as often as needed at over 65,000 pharmacies nationwide, including all major chains.
The card can also be shared with friends and family. It’s free, with no fees or registration, and it
never expires.

New Year’s Day – January 1
To many Americans, the ball dropping at Times
Square in New York City signals the start of the new
year in this country. The ball was first dropped in 1908.
Did you make a New Year’s resolution? Millions
of people do. It’s easy to make resolutions, yet much
harder to accomplish them.
New Year’s Eve is when all the fun and festivities are. We see out the old
year and ring in the new. New Years’ Day on the other hand, is a time to
relax and enjoy the start of a bright and promising new year…a new beginning. It is a time to be with family. Enjoy New Year’s…it only comes once
a year.
Feast Of The Epiphany –
Three Kings Day – January 6
Melchior and Balthasar were the three kings (also
known as the Three Wise Men) who saw the star
over Bethlehem when Christ was born. They followed it to find the Christ child on January 6th.
They brought the Christ child gold, frankincense
and myrrh.
