Assistive listening Devices (ALD): A single microphone can effective ly be use d on ta bles u p to 12 feet in leng th (Table 1). For longer tables, two microphones chained together with a Y-adaptor and/or an extension cable may be required. The KJ-10 extension permits two micro phone s to be place d up to 16 fee t apart (Table 2). Digital Vo ice Rec orde rs (DVR ): DV Rs and handheld micro-cassette recorders may be connected as ALDs. However, not all devices can power two microphones, par ticula rly thos e op era ting o n a s ingle 1.5 v olt ba ttery. Compu ters: Practically all desktop and laptop c om puters ca n pow er a t least fo ur m icro phones . Ho we ve r, it is impo rtant that the chain starts w ith a KO-A sound card ada ptor ins erted into the co m puter ’s m icroph one input. From there, Y-adaptors and extension cables may be inserted in the m os t co nv enient ord er a s shown in Table 3. If more than four microphones are required, we rec om m end using an auto m atic mixer to avo id pos sible echo effects.
