What are the types of regions?
A geographic region represents a cluster of human or physical
characteristics. A region changes over time. People may disagree
on what defines it and it may change overtime as the population
changes. It is separated from other regions by transition zones.
Types of regions are formal regions, functional regions, and
perceptual regions.
Physical Region
What are some examples describing a
physical region?
A physical region is like a natural region. Examples of physical
regions are like climate, land-forms, vegetation, rivers, and
mountains.
Human Region
Human Regions are cultural. Examples of like Human Regions are
like language, political, religion, ethnicity, and even diseases that the
humans in that area are getting.
Transition Zones
Transition zones are like edges of a region. It is an area of spatial
change. It is marked by a gradual change and tends to have a mix
characteristics (of both regions).

Formal Area
What is a formal area?
A formal area is based on cold hard facts, such as population.....and
per capita, temperature, climate, mountains/valleys, religion,
language, or even how much people make for a living....so based on
one or more measurable, shared traits that distinguish them
from the surrounding area.

Functional Regions
Functional regions are based on interactions. The DFW hub is the

Court session.

to come in for health checks and processing) before being allowed
to become citizens.

Japan is located in East Asia. Its nickname is the “Land of the Rising
Sun”. The country has around 127 million people.

Japan is in the UN (United Nations member). It is not supposed to
declare war on anyone though does have a moderate military.
