2014
My father Liam was
regarded as one of the
most brilliant stallion
masters of his time.
In a high risk business,
Dad’s uncanny eye
and feel for a horse
ensured some very
shrewd judgements
were made during the
stud’s rich 75-year history.
‘regarded as
one of the
most brilliant
stallion
masters’
His father - my grandfather Paul began standing stallions in the 1930’s
and Dad continued the tradition
introducing some leading names to
the farm and indeed the stud book;
Kampala, Taufan, Alzao, Barathea and
Tagula were all crowned Champions
PU[OLPYÄYZ[ZLHZVUZ6\YTVZ[YLJLU[
Flat star – Acclamation – achieved
that accolade and more; for him the
success story continues to unfold.
Rathbarry Stud’s original
reputation was based on its
National Hunt stallions and
this tradition has been proudly
maintained. The progeny of
leading sires Presenting and
Robin Des Champs are enjoying
tremendous success on the
track whilst the younger sires,
Dubai Destination and Sholokhov
are waiting in the wings.
‘The very
best sires at
affordable
prices’
We’re also proud to announce a brand new
addition to our stallion roster - Shirocco. By
Manduro, he hails from a fantastically sound
German bloodstock line and has already had

Dad’s ambition was to give breeders the
opportunity of using the very best sires at
affordable prices. It is our duty to continue
this policy in the years ahead.

Sales
Fever...
Bloodstock auctions have shown remarkable
resilience this year and we are glad to have
played such a starring role. The sales story
for Rathbarry began in June when the store
record at Goffs Land Rover sale was broken
when Willie Mullins purchased a stunning
9VIPU+LZ*OHTWZ@6NLSKPUNMYVT+PHUH
& Joerg Vasicek’s Kenilworth House Stud. A
fantastic return for the vendors for the striking
bay.
Later that month another gelding by our
exciting young sire topped the Derby Sale
at Fairyhouse. This time Jimmy Murphy’s
Redpender Stud headlined as MV Magnier
prevailed with a €250,000 bid.
The same buyer also invested €160,000
for Goldford Stud’s Presenting gelding. A

Stables as Rathbarry and Glenview’s stock
proved hits with the leading judges.
Fast forward to the autumn yearling sales,
where our star stallion Acclamation made
a similar impression. Kicking off with
a £160,000 pricetag at Doncaster for
Castlemartin Stud, he followed up with some

Creating his
own legacy
Acclamation’s rise to fame has been swift.
Retiring to stud in 2004 as a son of the
formidable Royal Applause, his ‘no Danzig’
pedigree was an appealing outcross and
breeders were immediately attracted. Sure
enough their faith was rewarded by attractive
and precocious progeny that are always
commercial at auction.

for commercial breeders as almost all the
big owners seek his yearlings. In 2013 his
yearling average rocketed to 71,000gns
