Annual EEO Public File Report The purpose of this EEO Public File Report (“Report”) is to comply with Section 73.2080©(6) of the FCC’s 2002 EEO Rule. This Report has been prepared on behalf of the Station Employment unit that is comprised of KHQ TV (Spokane, WA) and is required to be placed in the public inspection files of the station and posted on their website, if they have a website. The information contained in this Report covers the time period beginning October 1, 2013 to and including September 30, 2014 (the “Applicable Period”). Activity: Description of the Activities: Job Fair KHQ-TV hosted a Community Job Fair in April at the Lincoln Center. Station representatives discussed opportunities with KHQ-TV, and KNDO/KNDU-TV. They also provided written material outlining the internship programs as well as a list of kinds of jobs available at a television station and the training and skills required for those positions. Job Fair Participated in Partners in Employment Career Fair which was hosted by Washington State, Eastern Washington, Whitworth, and Gonzaga Universities in February at the Spokane Convention Center. Station representatives discussed employment and internship possibilities at KHQ-TV, and KNDO/KNDU-TV A one-sheet noting the kinds of jobs available at a television station and an explanation sheet regarding the station's internship program were distributed. Job Fair Participated in Get Hired: Summer 2014 at Eastern Washington University in March. Station representatives discussed employment and internship possibilities at KHQ-TV, KNDO-TV and KNDU-TV. Current postings were available for students to review. Job Fair Participated in Gear Up Career Day at Columbia Basin College in February. Station representatives discussed employment and internship possibilities at KHQ-TV, KNDO-TV and KNDU-TV. Current postings were available for students to review. Job Shadow Program KHQ regularly takes part in job shadow programs. These are middle school, high school or college students that are in the station for a one or two day visit to learn about various job and career opportunities in broadcasting. There were twenty-nine job shadows in this reporting year in the news department. Internship Program The station sponsors an internship program that provides opportunities for college students considering the industry to become familiar television and broadcasting careers. The station sponsored 12 interns during the reporting year in the news department. Mentoring Program Employees from our KNDO/KNDU stations often visit KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington to train with staff in the larger market. News sales, and web personnel have participated in this mentoring activity this reporting year. Scholarship Fund KHQ, Incorporated maintains a Scholarship Fund with Washington State University directed at students interning and desiring to pursue a career in broadcasting. Tours KHQ gave twenty station tours to various groups of students in which the broadcasting industry is explained including job opportunities and the requirements needed for the jobs. Events Sponsored by Educational Institutions related to Career Opportunities in Broadcasting KHQ participated in nine events including classroom presentations from grade school classes to college classes, and county-wide high school career fairs about broadcast career opportunities and the related educational requirements. Outside Training and Learning Station hires local college students and recent college graduates as freelance workers for live-over the air sports productions. With this, station offers training to achieve the skill level necessary to successfully work in full time positions in the broadcast industry such as a field camera operator and production assistant. In some cases, experience gained has led to freelance jobs with other network affiliated sports production companies such as ESPN and Root Sports. Training Several KHQ managers and staff participated in several workshops presented by Media strategist Larry Rickel. Topics included teasing and memorable moments. Training The KHQ Sales team receive ongoing training throughout the year from Center for Sales Strategies through online information and presentations by managers in one to two hour weekly training sessions covering various topics designed to assist and develop sales staff. Additionally the station subscribes and utilizes local broadcast sales.com online training. Training Several members of the news team spent several days receiving training from talent coach Stephanie Rickel covering appearance coaching, story development coaching, and voice training. Training Several members of the news team attended a workshop in June for appearance coaching from make-up artist Julie Farley. Training The KHQ GSM and LSM attended the NAB annual small market conference in San Antonio, TX in September. The conference is basically an idea exchange amongst various TV Stations. Training The KHQ Executive News Director and KHQ Promotion Manager attended the Promax Station Summit in Las Vegas in June, where they were instructed by NBC personnel as to the best practices of promotion. Additionally, the News Director learned from syndicated representatives how to use their services and best practices for promoting that material. Training The KHQ Executive News Director learned about new advances in technology, spectrum issues, and new delivery platforms at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Training The Special Projects Producer held a training seminar in May for several of the news employees to showcase best storytelling practices. Training The KHQ sales team spent several training sessions learning how to maximize both their time and the bottom line through a training program provided by Efficio's Media Sales Management System. Training Several managers and supervisors attended a 2 hour workshop in March held by our employment attorney whereby she presented information on Employment Law, covering topics such as selection criteria & hiring decisions, harassment awareness training, and the importance of documentation. Training Several employees attended various seminars held by our parent company. The topics included 'Conflict Management for Supervisor & Managers', 'Managing the Appraisal Process', 'The Art of Conflict Resolution', 'Say What You Mean the Right Way', and 'Dealing with Difficult People'. Training New Sales Reps underwent an extensive training program with the Center for Sales Strategy as new to television sellers. The extensive course plays out over three months with an instructor from CSS monitoring their progress through various assignments and tests as they progressed. Training The KHQ Sales Team were involved in various webinars sponsored by TvB. Training in the automotive, retail and web development areas were covered. Training KHQ Sales Management attended a Washington State Association of Broadcasters training session in Skamania, Wa in October.
