All the glass we use would normally end up in landfill. W e take
unwanted glass bottles and recycle them. Every time you recycle a
glass bottle, you save enough energy to run a TV for 1.5 hours.
How to pick your
recycled glass...
It is very simple, the hardest part is picking the colours
and mixes you like best.
First decide what you are using the recycled glass for; will it be a featur e panel or
a whole wall of tiles, a splashback for your cooker or a bathr oom vanity unit?
Our recycled glass can be used for a wide range
of uses such as:
Choose a colour
Below is the standard range of colours we offer, simply choose the colour of your
glass, then pick the size of the cullet - this will define the patter n.

Next: Choose your cullet...
Bottle Alley Glass
We sort the bottles into colours befor e they are cleaned and
then crushed. The crushed pieces are called cullet. These are
annealed in a large kiln to make “new” or “r ecycled” glass.
Bottle Alley Glass
On average, each household in the UK uses 331 glass bottles and
jars a year. Recycling, rather than disposing of them, would save
enough energy to power a computer for five days.
Choose your cullet size
The mix comes in a variety of sizes, the size is determined by how fine we have
broken the glass down. The larger patter ns are made from large pieces of glass,
whereas the smaller patterns are finer pieces.
The glass pieces are sieved to grade them into sizes. The first sieve is 20mm,
followed by 10mm and 5mm. The images below show the dif ferent sizes and the
patterns they create. We recommend the smaller mix for tiles and small art
features. The large mixes are ideal for splashback and large surface ar eas.
Choose the thickness of your
recycled glass
8mm
20mm
The thickness of your finished glass depends on what you ar e using the glass for.
We are happy to advise you on which thickness is best suited for the pr oject.

Choose a mix
A “mix” is made from adding coloured pieces of glass to our white glass. The
colour is derived from the colour of the bottles used and the patter nation is
determined by the size of the pieces of glass.
All our mixes are available as white tiles with a choice of mix - gr een, blue or
brown. They come in either 10mm or 20mm cullet size.

Bottle Alley Glass
The recycling of the bottles into the finished pr oducts is
undertaken in our premises in York. On site we sort, clean and
crush the bottles, before using specialist kilns to produce sheets
of the recycled glass.
Bottle Alley Glass have supported
commercial projects all over the UK.
We are able to provide large pieces of
glass suitable for offices, features in
bespoke builds or hotels.
Our recycled glass features in the
Museum of Science and Industry in
Manchester, where it is used in the
washrooms as part of an
environmentally responsible build and
creates a stunning and unique finish.

Once the glass has cooled it is then trimmed and depending on the
finish required it is sometimes polished and cut down to the final
size; from large work tops to individual tiles. The edges ar e then
polished to create an excellent finish.
