Grammar note:
• An ADJECTIVE MUST
agree in number
and gender with the noun that it
modifies!
• If the masculine adjective ends in an “O” it
changes to an “A” to become feminine.
• El bolígrafo amarillo….la puerta amarilla
• El estudiante extrovertido….La estudiante
extrovertida
Grammar Note (2)
• If the masculine adjective ends in OR…it adds
an A to become feminine (The noun usually
does too!).
• El profesor trabajador…La profesora
trabajadora
• All other masculine adjectives (those ending in
E,I,U,A or a consonant will stay the same for
both genders.
• El libro grande…..La mesa grande
Grammar notes (3)
• Descriptive adjectives come AFTER the noun
they modify.
– La profesora inteligente
– El estudiante trabajador
– La casa blanca
– La silla azul
– La clase grande
Grammar notes (4)
• Adjectives of nationality that end in a
consonant add an A to form the feminine AND
drop their final accent (if they have one) in the
feminine and plural forms.
