ORIGINAL compositions in all media are welcome including sculpture, watercolour, acrylic, oil, photography, pencil, charcoal, pastel, pen and ink. Works should be on artist quality paper and canvases. Laser copies of photos are not accepted. Please have photos professionally printed. Crafts will not be accepted. ARE THERE OTHER REQUIREMENTS? The following must be submitted along with your art: A fully completed Artist Registration Form (available from CMHA or MIFSC), A fully completed list of your art submissions Your artist statement. The selection committee reserves the right to edit the artist statement for clarity and/or space limitations. If you would like to display your business cards, please submit them with your registration form. POSTER SELECTION AND INFORMATION A panel of five or more people choose the piece to be used for the poster. Keep in mind that the piece needs to attract peoples’ attention in terms of form and colour as it is used for advertising purposes. It may also be helpful to reflect the theme, Awakening the Spirit. The maximum size of the original piece to be considered for the poster is preferred to be no larger than 40"x 36". One entry will be selected as the promotional poster for this year’s art show. Compensation to artist for work chosen for the poster: MIFSC will give a maximum of a $200 framing allowance to compensate the artist for using the work for promotional purposes on posters, invitations and handbills. If the art chosen for the poster is already framed, or if the framing cost is less than the $200 framing allowance, the artist can use the difference to make extra copies of the posters, invitations or handbills for their personal use, or they can keep the money. CMHA and MIFSC reserve the right to produce and display two dry mount copies of the chosen poster—one for each association—to increase awareness about the art show. Any further reproduction requires the permission of the artist. The original framed work used for the poster remains the property of the artist and, if unsold, will be returned to the artist at the end of the show. FRAMING GUIDELINES It is assumed that you will bring your work framed and show ready. If you feel that you might need some input about framing, framing workshops are available June 9 – 13th (times to be announced) to support you in creating attractive frames for your work. **Please bring no more than two pieces.** Framing your work in a professional manner attracts potential buyers and may also be beneficial if you wish to submit your work to other juried shows. Bring your work and framing materials (we also have some framing materials available on a first come first serve basis) and we’ll give you some feedback and support as you prepare your frames. Any extra framing costs paid for by CMHA (e.g. mats, glass) will be deducted from the sale price of a work before the artist is paid. DO PICTURES HAVE TO BE FRAMED? Each picture, painting or drawing (minimum size 8” X 10”) must be framed and ready to hang, with final approval by the selection committee. Stretched canvases 1 ½ inches deep will also be considered. Please do not use clip frames. Each piece must be labelled on the back (with a temporary label) with the following information: 1. title of work 4. price 2. medium used 5. date the work was created 3. name of artist Please DO NOT write on the back of your painting as the ink bleeds through to the front and writing imprints may show on the front. Watercolours must be matted. If your work is in a standard frame size, it is much easier and cheaper to frame. Keep in mind that very large pieces are expensive to frame and more challenging to find frames for. Very large pieces may also be more challenging to find space for in the gallery. Some standard frame sizes are: 5” X 7” 8" x 10" 20" x 24" 11" x 14" 24" x 36" 16" x 20" 30" x 40" ART SELECTION DETAILS You will be notified if your work has not been selected for the art show. It is expected that you will pick up any unaccepted work within one week of notification. After that time, CMHA and MIFSC are no longer responsible for the artwork. DON’T FORGET YOUR RECEIPT! Receipts will be provided for all work received by the committee OPENING GALA Contributing artists and two guests are invited to the Opening Gala at the Coat Check Gallery at the Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday, August 12 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. PICKING UP YOUR ART AT THE END OF THE SHOW Artists can pick up their work on Tuesday, November 3rd at the Vernon & District Performing Arts Centre’s Coat Check Gallery at 3800 – 33rd Street between 1:00 and 2:30 p.m. after signing for their return.
