The Ferry Ward is divided into five main geographic communities of Balgillo, Barnhill, central Broughty Ferry, Broughty Ferry and West Ferry. The Ferry ward has a population of 19,319 (2011), 55% of which are of working age, 16% are children and 29% of pensionable age. Situated just four miles to the east of Dundee City centre, Broughty Ferry has it’s own seafront, esplanade and award winning beach. Broughty Castle built in 1496, Claypotts Castle and the Fisher town. All play a vital part of the heritage of Broughty Ferry and Dundee. The three retail centres at Panmurefield, Barnhill and central Broughty Ferry offer both shoppers and visitors a choice of individual boutiques and art galleries, fine eateries, pavement cafes, stylish bars and coffee shops. The Ferry Ward has a number of parks including Dawson Park, Orchar Park, Sandy Park and Castle Green.
