By your presence here tonight you demonstrate that education at Grace Lutheran School is a shared effort between teachers, students, parents and congregation. Together we place our trust in God’s promise in Proverbs 22:6: “Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray.” A Christ-centered education at Grace embraces the whole student— mind, body and spirit—and inspires a life-long passion for learning. It provides a foundation for success in the classroom, but more importantly it prepares our students for discipleship beyond the classroom. Our mission at Grace Lutheran Church and School is to “bring in, build up, and send out disciples for Christ.” The continuing tradition of excellence in education at Grace Lutheran School is an essential part of that mission. The funds you help us raise tonight will make possible the purchase of a new math curriculum and provide additional resources to support quality instruction. With your generous support, Grace Lutheran School students can continue to “grow in grace and wisdom,” as the 2012-2013 school year theme states. We hope you enjoy the fellowship, food and fun at “A Graceful Evening,” and we offer our heartfelt thanks to you for your generosity and support of our event. Grace Math Curriculum Quick! How do you find the area of an isosceles triangle? What’s 3/4 divided by 2? What’s a mean and what’s a median? Do you still remember the math you learned in school? Some of us grow up to be engineers and accountants and use complex math all the time, but all of us use the thinking and reasoning skills gained from nightly struggles with word problems and math facts. In today’s world, everyone needs to be able to read charts, shop for a mortgage, and understand probability. Math matters, and that’s why it’s so important for Grace students and teachers to work with the best and most up-to-date math materials available. Proceeds from the “Paddles Up!” math curriculum auction will enable Grace School to purchase a new math curriculum for grades 1-5. The new McGraw-Hill My Math curriculum will offer students many ways to master the math concepts they’ll need to succeed in school and in life. The lessons build on the latest research on how kids gain mathematical knowledge and skills. The curriculum is customized for the way teachers teach, personalized for the way students learn, and individualized to maximize student success. Besides teacher’s manuals and student consumable textbooks, the curriculum includes manipulatives, CDs, and additional materials for teaching math to students with diverse learning styles. The more money we raise tonight, the more “extras” we can buy! Paddles Up!! Silent Auction Classroom Classics Kitchen Helpers Basket Preschool Mix it! Measure it! Make a mess!
