SEATTLE, WA (October 27, 2016) – ArtsWest is pleased to announce THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL PASSION,
David Lang’s 2008 Pulitzer Prize-winning choral work, coming to the ArtsWest stage for four evenings in
December. Featuring four of Seattle’s most critically acclaimed voices - John Coons, Lisa Mandelkorn, Randy
Scholtz, and Jenny Shotwell - and the hip-hop choreography of UJ Mangune, this limited engagement is an
intimate, unforgettable evening of music and dance.
Modeled after Bach's Saint Matthew Passion, THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL PASSION is a modern, minimalist
retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's tragic winter fairy tale. With only matches to keep her warm, a poor young
girl, afraid to go home to her abusive father, takes shelter in an alley on a cold winter night. As she strikes each
match, wonderful visions appear: when the last match is struck, the girl discovers that the end of her suffering and her life - is near.
A special 2-show combo is available to see THE LITTLE MATCH GIRL PASSION and PETER AND THE
STARCATCHER, ArtsWest’s winter musical about the early adventures of Peter Pan, on the two nights featuring
performances of both productions (Monday, December 11 & Thursday, December 22). Purchasers of the 2-show
combo will gain admission to both productions for only $60.
