Totally Random Upcoming Lev Events It seems that the latest counter‐ evolutionary phenom to grip American youngsters today is the art of car surfing. The CDC defines such an act as a “thrill‐seeking activity that involves riding on the exterior of a moving motor vehicle while it is being driven by another person.” A quick trip to youtube.com validates this claim. At a glance (or several), the pastime itself appears to be fun and addictive for the participants and rather amusing for the rest of us viewers. However, any teen activity that shoots so suddenly to the CDC’s Morbidity and Morality Report deserves a second evaluation, beyond the grainy videos of the internet‐upload kingdom. Researchers discover that car surfing today has an estimated fatality rate of 58% (of those, the breakdown is 70% male, 74% from the Midwest and Southern regions). Moreover, many deaths occur in the month of August. (back‐to‐school blues?) Car surfing deaths have occurred due to vehicle speeds as high as 80mph and as low as a measly 5. Causes of death invariably include gruesome head and spinal cord injuries. Boys of the South should consider themselves forewarned, lest they again mistake the hoods of moving vehicles for their personal surfboards. •Panel on Public Service ‐Mon 7:00 (SCR) •Career/Internship Exploration Dinner: Technology – Tues 6:00 (SCR) •Leverett 80’s Dance (tickets on sale now!) See announcement below. Players of the Week (Oct. 12‐19 2008) Although the Rabbits lost a close tennis match against Dunster, things could have been much worse if Sarah Moshary and Nimi Katragadda had not responded to an open request and thus prevented a Leverett forfeit. * The A Volleyball game against Eliot went to the third game, but Andrew Wong’s solid serving helped the Rabbits emerge victorious. * In a dramatic game against Quincy, Leverett’s frisbee team rallied to push the game into overtime, where they lost by a single point. Rupak Chakraborty showed his talent with a number of scores and key defensive plays. * Nicole St. Omer Roy stepped in as a setter for the B Volleyball team, performing admirably as the team improved through the night, though not quickly enough to defeat their Adams opponents.
