Syracuse Orange (3-12, 0-8)
vs. Robert Morris (8-11-1, 3-1)
Jan. 9 • 7pm • Jan. 10 • 2pm
Tennity Ice Pavilion
Syracuse, New York
CENTER ICE
Following a 34-day hiatus, Syracuse is chomping at the bit to get back to Tennity Ice Pavilion for a CHA series with
Robert Morris. In it only two games of December, the Orange ran into a high-powered offense at Mercyhurst who is
now ranked top five in the country. Syracuse is still in search of its first CHA victory. SU is the only team in the league
to have faced off eight times within the conference this season, whereas the four other components have battled
within CHA quarters only four times. The Orange were introduced to the CHA at Robert Morris in mid-October and
were handed narrow losses in each decision. There is no better time for that first CHA win than in the New Year.
Robert Morris, Round 2
Syracuse set out to the Steel City to take on Robert
Morris for a weekend series on October 10 and 11,
denoting the first CHA action in Orange program
history. The two teams scrapped to a 1-0 score in
favor of the host in the first match. Junior goalie
Lucy Schoedel stoned 31 Colonials attempts in the
first game. On the backend, Syracuse drew first
blood when freshman forward Megan Skelly scored
her first powerplay goal of the season, but Robert
Morris charged back with two goals and mounted
a lead they would not relinquish, 3-2. Freshman Lisa
Mullan also scored her first powerplay marker in
the contest. Robert Morris rang in the New Year by
welcoming Bemidji State to Pittsburgh last weekend.
The Beavers shutout the Colonials, 2-0, for just their
second win of the season. Bemidji State kept its
momentum with a 3-1 victory on Saturday. Robert
Morris is 8-11-1 on the season, with a 3-1 record in
conference action. RMU earned CHA victories with
two against Syracuse and one against Niagara.
Skelly Can Score
Freshman winger Megan Skelly potted a goal in
each outing at Mercyhurst back in early December.
It marks the second time this season Skelly has
notched goals in at least two consecutive contests.
Back in the home opener against Sacred Heart on
October 31, Skelly scored a short-handed tally
and then on the backend of the twinbill, she scored
two goals in the same game. The Taber, Alberta
native recorded SU’s lone goal in a 4-1 loss at
home to Mercyhurst for a three-game goal streak.
Skelly tied linemate sophomore Stefanie Marty for
the team’s longest pointstreak this season at five,
ranging from October 31 through November 21.
The first-year winger currently sits amongst all
freshmen in the CHA in points. Her 0.93 points per
game is the best in the league of all first-year
skaters. Nationally, Skelly is the 11th most efficient
freshman point scorer and T-59th overall. She is
also ranked T-26th in the nation with 0.53 goals
per game.
Marty Making It Happen
Sophomore co-captain Stefanie Marty, arguably
one of Syracuse’s most efficient point scorers, had
a four-game pointstreak disrupted in the second tilt
of the Mercyhurst series on December 6. Marty’s
four-game pointstreak consisted of three assists
and one powerplay goal in two series versus
Mercyhurst with the Wayne State bouts sandwiched
in between. Preceding that four-game spurt, Marty
posted three goals and four assists to register one
of two SU five-game pointstreaks on the year.
Klassen Coming into Her Own
Freshman forward Kylie Klassen has emerged to
the fore as one of Syracuse’s most lethal offensive
weapons on the powerplay. On November 21
at Wayne State, Klassen posted her first career
powerplay tally and on December 6 at Mercyhurst,
she put away her second powerplay marker.
Klassen is sixth on the squad with six points (3 G, 3
A) and leads all Orange with a +3 rating.
Schoedel Sits on 425
Junior netminder Lucy Schoedel was tested early
and often when the Orange took on the highpowered Mercyhurst offense last month. Schoedel
turned away 75 total shots in the two-game set (34
and 41, respectively) to reset her save total to 425
for the season. The Ithaca, N.Y. product has started
every game for the Orange and has logged
818:30 of play, allowing 4.11 goals per game with
an .884 save percentage.
‘Cuse Originals
Tthe Orange was able to maintain a steady flow
of player and program firsts against Wayne State
in late November. Two student-athletes scored their
first goals, including sophomore Keeta Koalska and
freshman Kelly Dimmen. Freshman Kylie Klassen
and sophomore Stefanie Marty each notched their
first powerplay goals for the Orange. Sophomore
Rebecca Gordon set up two scoring plays over the
weekend, securing her first two-point streak of the
season. Freshman Jessica Frump attained her first
career assist for Syracuse.
Powerplay Plusses
The Syracuse powerplay unit was in full force
in Detroit in late November. The Orange took
advantage of its extra-man opportunities in both
contests. On Friday night, Syracuse busted the
back of the net twice in powerplay opportunities.
Freshman Kylie Klassen netted her second goal of
the season in powerplay fashion while co-captain
Stefanie Marty knocked in her fourth goal. Marty’s
marker was her first powerplay goal for SU. On
Saturday, Kelly Dimmen beat Wayne State
netminder Delayne Brian during the powerplay for
her first career goal with Syracuse.
Chits in the CHA
In the Wayne State series in November, nine
different Orange skaters tallied their first points
in conference play. Freshmen Kylie Klassen and
Kelly Dimmen tickled the twine for their first
CHA powerplay goals while first-year winger
Janelle Malcolm and sophomore forward Keeta
Koalska each tallied their first goals in conference
competition. Senior blueliner Rachel Tilford,
sophomores Cheyenne Bojeski and Julie Rising
and freshman Jessica Frump all attained their
first assists in CHA play while sophomore forward
Rebecca Gordon offered up two assists in the
Motor City doubleheader.
Eying Down...
Frump’s First
Newly-added forward Jessica Frump made a splash in her first game wearing the Orange
sweater in the Orange’s weekend opener against Sacred Heart. The Saugus, Calif. native
etched her name in Tennity Ice Pavilion history by scoring the first goal for Syracuse which
proved to be the game-winner in the 10-0 pasting of the Pioneers. Frump is tied for eighth
in the CHA in game-winners.

Malcolm in the Middle…of the ice
In SU’s 10-0 win against SHU, Janelle Malcolm was awarded a rare two penalty shots for
Syracuse; the first time the Orange attempted the one-on-one crowd pleaser in program
history. Malcolm was not able to capitalize on the penalty shots, but she did record three
points in two games, including two goals and one helper. Malcolm is tied for 12th in the
conference with 0.38 goals per game and rated 76th, nationally.
Odd Man Out
The Syracuse powerplay and penalty killing units were in full-effect in Tennity Ice Pavilion’s
first action against Sacred Heart in the home opening weekend. Stefanie Marty notched
the Orange’s first short-handed goal in program history after stealing the puck and faking
out SHU’s goaltender. Syracuse fed off of Marty’s momentum as Megan Skelly and Julie
Rising each added another short-handed tally later in Friday’s affair for three shorthanded tallies in a single game. On the flipside, the Syracuse powerplay attacked the
Pioneers’ defense for a program-record three times. Nikki Leone, Rising and Marty all
found the back of the net with the man-advantage in Syracuse’s second game against SHU.
Chillin’ with the Penguins
Head coach Paul Flanagan knows a thing or two about hockey. He also knows a bunch of
high-ranking figureheads in the game. When the Orange traveled to Pittsburgh, Pa. to take
on Robert Morris in mid-October, Flanagan had a surprise in store for his team. SU’s coach
came in contact with his friend, Ray Shero, general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
On Saturday morning before the team’s pre-skate routine, Flanagan gathered his team
and took the Orange on a tour of Mellon Arena (home of the Penguins). Syracuse had the
opportunity to take pictures with a few players and get a feel for the lifestyle of an NHL
player.

Trade School
The Orange will benefit from eight players who have transferred from other Division I
programs. Senior Nikki Leone (Trenton, Ontario) came to Syracuse from Quinnipiac to
help out the defense. Junior goaltender Lucy Schoedel (Ithaca, N.Y.) and sophomore
forward Stefanie Marty (Nussbaumen, Switzerland) will don the Orange after skating
with the University of New Hampshire last season in its Frozen Four appearance. Sophomore
forwards Keeta Koalska (Forest Lake, Minn.) and Julie Rising (Anchorage, Alaska)
trekked to Central New York after competing with Bemidji State University. Sophomore
forward Cheyenne Bojeski (Hamilton, Ontario) played in 33 games with CHA member
Mercyhurst in Erie, Pa. last season. Boston College offered junior blue-liner Gabrielle
Beuadry (Cortland, N.Y.) to bolster the defense. Sophomore forward Rebecca Gordon (St.
Catharines, Ontario), comes from Clarkson University located in Potsdam, N.Y.

Orange Dozen
Syracuse welcomes 12 fresh skaters to the 2008-09 lineup. The newcomers include Katelyn Bero
(Akwesasne, N.Y.), Kelly Dimmen (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Nicole Feltes (Rolling Meadows,
Ill.), Jessica Frump (Saugus, Calif.), Steph Jones (Thornhill, Ontario), Kylie Klassen (Winkler,
Manitoba), Janelle Malcolm (Edmonton, Alberta), Taylor Metcalfe (Oakville, Ontario), Lisa
Mullan (Victoria, British Columbia), and Megan Skelly (Taber, Alberta). Senior Rachel Tilford
(Birch Hills, Saskatchewan) and junior Alison Lee (Los Altos, Calif.) are both walk-ons.
Foul Lines to Blue Lines
Senior Rachel Tilford (Birch Hills, Saskatchewan), one of two seniors for SU, was an outfielder for
the Orange softball team for the past three seasons. Tilford started and played in all 150 games for
the Orange from 2006-08. She recorded a .271 career batting average for Syracuse, including 15
home runs, 75 RBI and 12 steals on 16 attempts.
Welcome to the Club
Junior Alison Lee (Los Altos, Calif.), one of Syracuse’s three netminders, tried out for the team
during preseason workouts and earned a spot on the roster. Technically, Lee is the only current
member on the team that has worn a Syracuse ice hockey sweater prior to this season. Lee was a
staple on the University’s club team for the last two years.
Orange’s O’Brien a National Champion
Syracuse assistant coach Erin O’Brien (Pickering, Ontario) was an assistant cocah for the women’s
hockey team at her alma mater, SUNY Plattsburgh. O’Brien helped guide the Cardinals to back-toback Division III National Championships in 2007 and 2008. Her overall record as an assistant is
78-6-4 from 2006-08.
Orange at Onondaga County War Memorial
Syracuse played its first game at the Onondaga County War Memorial on Friday, November 14,
against Meryhurst at 7:00 p.m. Syracuse lost, 4-1, but led the match through most of the second
period. Freshman Megan Skelly added another first to her repertoire by scoring the first goal at
the War Memorial just after the first minute of play in the opening period. The Orange plays in
downtown Syracuse one more time this season against St. Anselm on Friday, February 20, at 7:00
p.m. The historic Onondaga County War Memorial Arena is located in the heart of downtown
Syracuse and has been the home of the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League since
1994. The rink has a capacity of 7,000.
Orange Online
SUathletics.com is your Internet home for Syracuse University women’s ice hockey. The Orange will
have at least two games featured on Orange All Access (OAA), SU’s multimedia package. Live audio
and video of select games at will be streamed live. Orange All Access (OAA) also includes live and

There’s a First Time for Everyone
Syracuse’s 2008-09 opponents combined for a 3-8-1 record in their first games as a new program.
Wayne State defeated Minnesota State-Mankato on Oct. 13, 2000, by a 1-0 decision. Niagara
beat Findlay on Oct. 20, 2000, 2-1, and St. Anselm’s overcame Salve Regina, 5-0, on Nov. 5, 2004.
Colgate, Wisconsin, Robert Morris, Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Mercyhurst, Carleton and Ottawa were
outscored by a combined total of 47-10. McGill drew even with Ottawa, 3-3, on Oct. 19, 2003.
Syracuse in First Seasons
In Syracuse’s inaugural seasons, the Orange has compiled an overall record of 77-75-10. In 1889,
Syracuse football lost its only game of the year at Rochester, 36-0, on November 23. The SU men’s
hoops team went 2-2 during the 1900-01 season while its women’s counterpart put together an even
5-5 record. Men’s lacrosse started up in 1916 with a 1-5-1 win-loss total while the women’s team
notched a winning record at 9-4 in 1998. In 1920, the men’s soccer team accrued a 4-3-2 total
while the women’s team enjoyed a 10-6-1 record in its 1996 debut. The 1972 field hockey squad
went 1-3-1 while the first tennis team volleyed for a 2-6 record in the 1975-76 season. Volleyball’s
1980 season of 19-17-4 and softball, SU’s newest addition since the ice hockey team, tallied a 2423-1 record to put the Orange over the .500 mark.

Orange Captains • Orange Olympian
Flanagan announced sophomores Stefanie Marty (Nussbaumen, Switzerland) and Julie Rising (Millbrae, Calif.) as Syracuse ice hockey’s inaugural
captains on Saturday, September 27, 2008. Marty played in 37 games and scored four goals with one assist at the University of New Hampshire.
Marty aided the Wildcats in their 2008 Frozen Four appearance as a freshman. Marty has also been a member of the Swiss National Team since
2003 and was nominated to be the ’Swiss Hockey Woman of the Year’ in 2005. The Nussbaumen, Switzerland native recorded 26 goals and 23
assists in 72 games with the Swiss in international competition. Marty was a member of the Swiss Olympic hockey team that competed in the 2006
Torino Games. She has also participated in the 2005 World Championship in Romanshorn, Switzerland, the 2007 World Championship in Winnipeg,
Manitoba and 2008 World Championship in Harbin, China, placing first, fifth and fourth, respectively. From 2003-07, Marty played for EV Zug - a
team in the highest level of play in the Swiss league. She earned two Swiss Championships in 2004 and 2005 and two Swiss Vice-Championships in
2006 and 2007. EV Zug played in the 2004 and 2005 European Champions Cup, earning third and fourth place, in that order. Rising appeared in 36
games at Bemidji State and tied for the leading goal scorer her freshman year with five markers. The Bay Area resident added two assists in 2007-08
and received WCHA Rookie of the Week honors on October 5, 2007.
Syracuse Plays 30 Games against 12 Teams
The Orange will play 12 home games at the Tennity Ice Skating Pavilion, two at the Onondaga County War Memorial, and 17 games on the road. The
dates and times of the games scheduled for the War Memorial are set for Friday, Nov. 14 against Mercyhurst and Friday, Feb. 20 against St. Anselm’s.
SU will play each of the four conference opponents four times this season. Out of conference, SU was tested against a solid Colgate team in the first of
many meetings that could develop into a great intrastate rivalry. The Orange squared off against Wisconsin, a team that’s won two out of the previous
three NCAA championships. Syracuse’s first home game comes against independent program Sacred Heart on Halloween night. The Orange will hit
the ice with Sacred Heart three more times throughout the regular season. The games against University of Ottawa, McGill University and Carelton
University will be a great way to promote the SU brand of hockey internationally. All three games are exhibition matches and will not count towards
SU’s overall record. Syracuse travels to Quinnipiac in mid-October for two non-conference bouts. St. Anselm’s rounds out the Orange’s non-conference
ticket in the second half of the season.
New York Natives
Three members of the ice hockey team hail from New York. Juniors Lucy Schoedel (Ithaca, N.Y.) and Gabrielle Beuadry (Cortland, N.Y.) drove up
I-81 from their respective towns of Ithaca and Cortland. Freshman Katelyn Bero (Akwesasne, N.Y.) comes to Syracuse from Akwesasne, an Upstate
New York town within an hour of Montreal, Quebec.

program.
Flanagan led St. Lawrence to the women’s NCAA Frozen Four Championship five times in his nine-year
tenure, tying him for the most appearances in the country. Flanagan’s four-year run (2003-07) of Frozen
Four appearances is also tied for best in college hockey.
The Canton, N.Y. native accrued a 230-83-24 record over the course of his term with the Saints. His
.718 win percentage third nationally among active Division I coaches. Flanagan is recognized as having
the sixth-most victories among active coaches.
Aside from all of his national accomplishments, Flanagan has made his presence felt in the Eastern
College Athletic Conference (ECAC) hockey league. After Flanagan led his school to its first National
Championship game in only his second year, he was awarded the 2000-01 ECAC Hockey Coach of the
Year and the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Coach of the Year.
Flanagan’s two marks of distinction are backed up by the awards he has helped his student-athletes
garner. Behind the Saints’ bench, Flanagan generated one ECAC Player of the Year, three Goaltender
of the Year honors, more than three dozen ECAC All-Star honors and 10 All-America honors. He has
coached two Olympians and several members of the Canadian National team.
In addition, Flanagan was named an assistant coach for the U.S. Women’s Select and National teams
that competed at the Four Nations Cup in Sweden in November and won the gold medal. Flanagan also
assisted the team’s to the World Championship in April held in Harbin, China. Flanagan rounded out the
national coaching staff with Ohio State’s Jackie Barto and Plattsburgh State’s Kevin Houle.
While at St. Lawrence, he directed his fleet to the ECAC Hockey Tournament in each of his nine years.
Flanagan’s 2003-04 team shared the ECAC Hockey regular-season crown and the 2005-06 team won
it outright. The Saints became the first squad in St. Lawrence history to win more than 30 games in a
season, setting the women’s record for wins for the fourth time in Flanagan’s tenure as head coach.
Coach Flanagan will continue to serve on the American Hockey Coaches Association’s Board of
Governors, as well as the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Selection Committee, which is charged with
selecting the nation’s top collegiate
hockey player each season.

The College Hockey America (CHA) women’s conference began in the fall of 2002 with
four teams including three from the former Great Lakes Women’s Hockey Association (Findlay,
Mercyhurst and Wayne State) and Niagara, who previously played in the ECAC.
In the first year of the league (2002-03), each member played two games against the
other conference schools. Mercyhurst won the regular-season CHA title with a 6-0 mark
outscoring its opponents 26-9. Niagara’s Val Hall earned both CHA Player of the Year and
Student-Athlete of the Year honors after recording a league-leading eight points on five goals
and three assists.
All three games in the CHA tournament, held at the City Sports Center Arena in Detroit,
were shutouts with the Lakers defeating Wayne State (5-0) and Findlay (1-0). UF blanked
Niagara, 1-0, in the other semifinal game.
Oiler goalie Jessica Moffat was selected tournament MVP. Laker coach Michael Sisti and
Samantha Shirley were voted CHA Coach of the Year and Rookie of the Year, respectively.
The following year (2003-04) the league schedule expanded to four games against each
other institution. Mercyhurst won the regular-season title with an 11-1 mark and also claimed
the tournament title at Niagara with wins over Wayne State (4-0) and Niagara (3-1).
Findlay’s Adam Brinker was voted CHA Coach of the Year, while Oiler Heidi Tallqvist was
selected CHA Player of the Year after tying with teammate Hailey Clarkson for the scoring
title with 15 points. Clarkson was tabbed CHA Rookie of the Year.
Mercyhurst netminder Desi Clark, after leading the conference in goals-against average
during the regular season, claimed the tournament MVP award. Laker teammate Jessica
Dillabough was named CHA Student-Athlete of the Year.
Findlay dropped women’s hockey following the 2003-04 campaign, but Quinnipiac joined
the league for one season keeping the membership at four schools. The Bobcats had been a
Division I independent for 2003-04.
Mercyhurst made it three consecutive CHA regular-season titles in 2004-05 by compiling
an 11-0-1 league mark. The Lakers won three of the conference’s year-end awards with Sisti
earning his second coach of the year plaque. Clark was voted Student-Athlete of the Year,
while Teresa Marchese was selected Player of the Year after scoring a league-leading 20
points on nine goals and 11 assists.
Marchese was also named the tournament MVP after leading MC to wins over Quinnipiac
(9-1) and Niagara (4-1) at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Niagara freshman Ashley Riggs was tabbed CHA Rookie of the Year along with becoming
the first freshman in league history to be voted to the All-CHA First Team.
The Lakers qualified for the 2005 NCAA tournament but lost in triple overtime (5-4) at
Harvard in the second longest women’s NCAA game at that time. Clark finished the contest
with 78 saves including 18 in the second sudden-death overtime period.
Robert Morris joined the conference for the 2005-06 season replacing Quinnipiac, who
joined its men’s team in the ECAC.
Mercyhurst had two ties in the 12-game conference slate (10-0-2), but had an eight-point
lead in the standings over second-place Wayne State (6-4-2).
WSU’s Jim Fetter was voted CHA Coach of the Year, while Valerie Chouinard, a freshman
at Mercyhurst won both the CHA Player of the Year and CHA Rookie of the Year awards. She
completed the trifecta winning the CHA tournament MVP plaque after leading the Lakers to
wins over Robert Morris (9-0) and Niagara (6-2) at the Michigan State Fairgrounds in Detroit.
Chouinard tied for the league scoring title with a pair of WSU rookies – Melissa Boal and
Sam Poyton. Each had 19 points in 12 CHA contests. All three newcomers were voted to the
All-CHA First Team.
Warrior senior Jessica Snelgrove was selected CHA Student-Athlete of the Year.
The Lakers had to travel to Wisconsin in the first round of the NCAA tournament but lost in
double overtime (2-1) to the host Badgers.
In 2006-07, Mercyhurst had another stellar conference record compiling an 11-0-1 record
for its fifth consecutive CHA regular-season crown. The Lakers earned another double-double
with its fifth tournament title defeating tournament host Robert Morris (5-2) and Wayne State
(4-1).
For the second time in league history, a student-athlete won both the CHA Player of the
Year award and the Rookie of the Year trophy. Laker newcomer Meghan Agosta recorded a
school-record 66 points in the regular-season then was voted tournament MVP after earning
seven points in the two contests.
Niagara’s Margot Page and Wayne State’s Jim Fetter shared Coach of the Year honors,
while NU’s Allison Rutledge and MC’s Julia Colizza were named co-Student-Athlete of the Year
award winners.
When the NCAA selections were announced, Mercyhurst was granted a home game but the
Lakers fell 3-2 in overtime to Minnesota-Duluth on a power-play goal.
The sixth season of the CHA (2007-08) saw a first in that Mercyhurst and Wayne State
tied for the regular-season title with identical 9-2-1 conference marks with the Warriors
receiving the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament based on a 2-1-1 record vs. the
Lakers. MC and WSU would meet in the conference championship game with the Lakers
coming away with a 2-1 overtime victory.
MC’s Meghan Agosta earned her second consecutive league Player of the Year award,
while WSU mentor Jim Fetter not only earned CHA Coach of the Year honors, but also the
national AHCA Coach of the Year award. Two other Mercyhurst skaters were honored as Vicki
Bendus was selected CHA Rookie of the Year, while Stephanie Jones was voted CHA StudentAthlete of the Year.
WSU senior Ashley King was a finalist for both the John Wooden Citizen Cup as well as the
Hockey Humanitarian Award.
Two of the top-10 finalists for the 2008 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award were CHA
student-athletes in WSU’s Melissa Boal and MC’s Meghan Agosta with Agosta reaching the
final three.
The CHA had the top four scorers in the nation in terms of points per game in Boal (2.16),
Agosta (1.97), and WSU’s Sam Poyton (1.94) and Lindsay DiPietro (1.88). Agosta led the
nation with 40 goals and seven short-handed markers, while DiPietro had an NCAA-best 48
assists.
Mercyhurst advanced to the NCAA tournament while Wayne State finished the year ranked
10th in the nation. The Lakers allowed three goals in less than a nine-minute span of the third
period as the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs rallied for a 5-4 win.
The 2008-09 campaign will bring something new (the addition of Syracuse University) and
old (13 of the top 14 scorers return), while the league schedule increases to 16 games (four
each against the other four member schools). The conference tournament expands to three
days for the first time in the history of the conference with a quarterfinal contest on day one
preceding semifinal action on day two. The 2009 CHA tournament will be held at Mercyhurst
on March 5-6-7.

HAMILTON, N.Y. -- Freshman Megan Skelly scored the first goal in Syracuse women’s ice hockey
history just nine seconds into the program’s first game at Colgate on Wednesday, Oct. 1. The Orange
took a 2-0 lead before the Raiders came back and prevailed, 4-3, at Starr Rink in Hamilton, N.Y.
Junior netminder Lucy Schoedel defended the Raiders offense well, turning away 34-of-38 shots to
anchor the Orange defense.
Skelly led the offensive charge by tallying two of Syracuse’s three goals. Freshman left winger
Janelle Malcolm added the Orange’s other marker with assists coming from freshmen forwards Kylie
Klassen and Lisa Mullan and freshman defender Kelly Dimmen.
The Orange scored its first goal immediately off the initial faceoff. Sophomore center Stefanie
Marty won the draw, forcing the puck toward Colgate’s zone. Klassen was given the assist after
she snared the puck on the left side and fired a shot high on Colgate netminder Lisa Plenderleith.
Plenderleith made the stop, but let the puck trickle in front of the crease. Skelly lifted the rebound
past the goalie’s glove for Syracuse’s historic first goal at 19:51.
Malcolm put the Orange up 2-0 in a similar fashion. Plenderleith made the original block, but
Malcolm was there to nudge the puck past her outstretched glove at 13:12 in the first period. Dimmen
earned the assist by blasting the first shot at Plenderleith.
Colgate’s Katie Stewart cut the Orange’s lead in half, 2-1, on a five-on-four situation after Dimmen
was whistled for interference at 7:23. Stewart received a pass from Sam Hunt in front of the cage and
snuck it by Schoedel at 6:43 of the first stanza.
Colgate struck again at 5:51 of the first period to knot the game at 2-2. Evan Minnick benefited from
a scuffle in front of the net and put it under Schoedel’s leg pad.
Colgate took the lead when Hunt gathered a centering pass from Katie Stewart and scored the
Raiders’ second power-play goal of the game with 2:38 left in the second period.
Schoedel turned away 14-of-15 shots she faced in the second period.
The Raiders added another tally at 12:33 of the third period when Hannah Milan accepted a pass
from Nicole McDonald and slipped the puck underneath Schoedel’s leg right in front of the crease.
In the waning moments of the period the Orange applied heavy offensive pressure. Skelly
backhanded a loose carom past Colgate’s Elayna Hamashuk in front of the goal to cut the deficit to
4-3. Mullan was credited with the assist after firing the first shot on target.
MADISON, WIS. – Junior goaltender Lucy Schoedel made 41 saves to keep Syracuse on #2
Wisconsin’s doorstep for the majority of the contest in which the Badgers prevailed, 3-0. The Orange
was outshot 44-11 in Friday’s decision at the Kohl Center.
Schoedel has turned away 75 opponents’ attempts in just two games. The Ithaca, N.Y. native faced
her stiffest test in the third period on Friday, stopping 16 shots, the most she’s blocked in a single
period thus far.
Sophomore forward Julie Rising fired three shots at Badgers’ netminder Jessie Vetter to lead the
Orange’s offensive charge. Syracuse threw 11 shots on target altogether. Sophomore Stefanie Marty
and freshman Lisa Mullan each accounted for two scoring opportunities.
Wisconsin’s Mallory Deluce put the Badgers ahead, 1-0, at 9:59 of the first session. Meghan Duggan
and Alycia Matthews were credited with the assist.
Schoedel obstructed 26 consecutive Badgers’ shots before Brooke Ammerman made it 2-0 at 10:07
of the third period. Schoedel held Wisconsin scoreless in the second period by making 12 saves.
Duggan tallied her second point of the night at 13:03 of the final frame to finalize the count at 3-0.
The Orange outmuscled Wisconsin on the draw, winning 40-of-63 total faceoffs. Rising came away
with a game-high 13 faceoffs.
The Orange penalty-killing unit played its part, shutting down Wisconsin’s two extra-man
opportunities. Syracuse could not take advantage of its five power-play chances.

The Orange allowed two Wisconsin goals within the first minute and a half of the opening period.
Brooke Ammerman tallied her third goal on the season just 20 seconds into the contest. Freshman

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Syracuse ice hockey team was featured in its first College Hockey America
game against Robert Morris on Friday night at the Clearview Arena. The Orange registered 21 shots
against RMU’s netminder Brianne McLaughlin in a tightly contested 1-0 setback. Syracuse’s 21
attempts are the most the Orange has posted this season.
Sophomore center Stefanie Marty registered five shots on net to lead the Orange’s offensive
assault. SU’s captain is now tied with her counterpart, sophomore Julie Rising, with 10 shots apiece

contest, totaling 130 stops in just four games.
RMU benefited on a 5-on-3 situation after junior defenseman Gabrielle Beaudry was called for
a tripping infraction at 6:16 of the first period. Freshman forward Lisa Mullan sent to the box for
holding 40 seconds later, bestowing the Colonials with the two-man advantage. Robert Morris’ Sara
O’Malley tallied the only goal on a power-play situation at 7:47 of the first stanza. Brianna Delany and
Whitney Pappas were awarded with the assist in Friday’s lone marker.
Each team was whistled for eight penalties in the match. Syracuse outshot the Colonials 13 to eight
on the power play.
Freshmen Kylie Klassen and Megan Skelly and senior Nikki Leone each posted three shots
against RMU. Freshman Janelle Malcolm, Mullan and Rising each added two while Beaudry chipped
in one attempt.
McLaughlin, last week’s CHA Women’s Defensive Player of the Week and USCHO.com National
Defensive Player of the Week, turned away all 21 Orange attempts.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Freshman forward Lisa Mullan notched her first career goal on the powerplay
as the Syracuse ice hockey team registered a season-high 23 shots in a 3-2 setback to Robert Morris
at the Clearview Arena on Saturday night. Freshman winger Megan Skelly added onto her list of
Syracuse firsts when she recorded the Orange’s first powerplay goal in the opening period. Skelly
netted SU’s historic first goal just nine seconds in the first contest at Colgate, as well.
Mullan and Skelly aided each other in their respective powerplay markers. Mullan was awarded
her second assist of the year, fostering Skelly’s powerplay tally in the first period. Skelly’s second
helper of the season came later in the third period when she reciprocated on Mullan’s goal.
Sophomore center Stefanie Marty generated her first point of the season by assisting Mullan’s
goal during the 5-on-4 situation.
Junior goaltender Lucy Schoedel blocked 21 shots on Saturday night, extending her season total
to 151 saves. Schoedel has hindered 151-of-168 opponents’ shots (.899%) this season.
Skelly exploited McLauglin at 10:18 of the first period when she buried Syracuse’s first powerplay
goal for the 1-0 lead. Senior Nikki Leone and Mullan both received their second career assists on the
goal. At 8:29, RMU’s Kristen Miles was called for slashing followed up by Chelsea Walkland’s hooking
breach at 10:09, granting Syracuse a two-skater advantage.
Freshman Janelle Malcolm’s interference penalty at 16:01 setup RMU’s Kathry Stack to tie the
game, 1-1, at 16:37 of the first stanza.
The Colonials snatched the lead with just 22 seconds remaining in the first period. Rising was sent
to the box for a hooking call at 19:23 and Brianna Delaney capitalized, beating Schoedel at 19:38 for
the 2-1 advantage.
Mullan returned the favor at 3:49 of the third frame to even the score, 2-2. Paige Pietrangelo
received a hooking penalty at 3:36 and Marty created the scoring opportunity by feeding Mullan 13
seconds into the powerplay. Skelly was credited with the helper on the play, as well.
Bojeski was caught with a hooking call at 7:09, creating another Colonials’ extra-man opening.
Megan Picinic deposited the game-winning powerplay tally at 8:45 of the final period.
The Orange went 2-for-9 on the powerplay while Robert Morris put together three goals on eight
powerplay opportunities.
HAMDEN, CONN. – Sophomores Stefanie Marty and Cheyenne Bojeski found the back of the net
for the first time wearing an Orange sweater as the Syracuse ice hockey team lost at Quinnipiac on
Friday night by a 4-2 total. Freshman forward Lisa Mullan broke through on the offensive front in
Friday’s tilt, registering her team-high third and fourth assists at the TD Banknorth Center.
Marty, Syracuse’s co-captain, attempted a team-high four shots to set the tone for the Orange
offense as she scored her first goal for SU in the second period by way of a top shelf blast. Mullan
was credited with the assist.
Marty and Mullan are the first members of the Orange ice hockey team to have recorded points
in two consecutive contests. Both Marty and Mullan received an assist against Robert Morris last
Saturday.
Bojeski’s first Orange marker came in the last minute of the second period off of her own ricochet.
The SU winger hurled the puck past Quinnipiac goalkeeper Nanna Holm-Glass as the disc hovered
around the crease. Mullan earned her fourth assist of the season on the Orange’s second goal while
SU’s other co-captain, sophomore Julie Rising (Millbrae, Calif.), was awarded the other assist. Rising,
who has attempted the second most shots for Syracuse through six games (14), posted her first
point for SU.
Junior netminder Lucy Schoedel earned her sixth consecutive start, surrendering four goals on
23 Bobcats’ attempts. Schoedel has blocked 170 total shots, allowing a cumulative 3.72 goals per
game.
At 13:42 of the first period, Quinnipiac benefited from a two-man advantage to take the early
1-0 lead. Senior blue-liner Rachel Tilford was penalized for a tripping call at 12:34 followed by a
checking infraction from freshman Megan Skelly 11 second later. QU’s Elyse Cole beat Schoedel for
the early lead.
Quinnipiac opened up the second period with a Breena Burton tally just 59 second into the
session to pad its advantage, 2-0.
Syracuse cut the deficit in half, 2-1, when Mullan fed Marty the puck at 5:07 of the second frame
for Syracuse’s first goal of the contest.
About a minute later, Elyse Cole counteracted the Orange tally at 6:19 of the second period on her
second power-play goal to retain Quinnipiac’s two-goal lead, 3-1. Rising was whistled for tripping
around the six-minute mark to initiate the Bobcats’ extra-man advantage.
With 27 second remaining in the second stanza, Bojeski gave the Orange a confidence boost
heading into the intermission. Bojeski flicked the puck past QU’s goaltender to keep Syracuse within
striking distance, 3-2. Mullan and Rising were granted the assists on SU’s final marker of the evening.
Quinnipiac’s Stacey Kmill finished off the scoring for the night, beating Schoedel at 11:10 of the
final period for the 4-2 victory.

HAMDEN, Conn. – Powered by goals from Syracuse’s co-captains Julie Rising and Stefanie Marty
coupled with Lucy Schoedel’s first shutout as the Orange goaltender, the SU ice hockey team
made history Saturday afternoon by recording the program’s first victory at Quinnipiac by means of
a 2-0 score.
Flanagan earned his 231st victory in the collegiate ranks and his first landmark win for the
Syracuse ice hockey program at the TD Banknorth Center.
Rising, SU’s sophomore center, not only scored her first goal for Syracuse, but found the back
of the net for what proved to be the Orange’s first game-winning goal in school history. Rising’s
game-winning tally came early in the first period. Sophomore forward Rebecca Gordon fed Rising
the puck, putting her in position to blast it past Quinnipiac’s Alexa Hynes at 2:51. Freshman forward
Kylie Klassen was also credited with the assist. Gordon registered her first point for the Orange on
Rising’s breakthrough marker.
Marty increased the Orange’s lead, 2-0, at 4:03 of the third period on an unassisted goal. The
Syracuse center tallied her first marker for SU on Friday night and is now tied with freshmen Megan
Skelly and Janelle Malcolm for most goals on the team with two.
Schoedel notched the program’s first shutout and victory, including her sixth career blanking,
against the Bobcats. Schoedel turned away 19 shots in the contest to set her SU career total at 189
saves. The Orange netminder recorded five shutouts in her last two years at the University of New
Hampshire.
The Orange also outshot its opponent for first time this season. Syracuse threw 29 shots at Hynes
while Schoedel only faced 19 Bobcats’ attempts.
Rising game-winning goal was combined with a game-high five shots. She now leads Syracuse
with 19 attempts through seven games. The sophomore captain also won a game-high 15 faceoffs.
Marty has led SU in the past six games in faceoff victories.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In front of a full-capacity crowd, the Syracuse women’s ice hockey team made
history in dominating fashion by defeating Sacred Heart, 10-0, in the first home game of SU history.
Tennity Ice Pavilion accommodated many program-shattering records as the Orange faithful rocked
the stands on Halloween.
SU put together its first winning streak of the season after junior goaltender Lucy Schoedel
earned her second consecutive shutout. SU’s goalkeeper denied 19 SHU attempts in Friday night’s
affair.
After all of the opening ceremonies subsided, Syracuse did not take long to bury its first goal
at Tennity. At 5:43 of the first period, newly-added freshman Jessica Frump immersed her stick in
a scrum in front of the Pioneers’ net, came away with the puck and nudged it by SHU netminder
Amanda Nagel for the early 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Keeta Koalska was credited with the assist.
About three minutes elapsed before the Orange tacked on another tally. Senior defenseman
Nikki Leone was fed the puck from sophomore forward Julie Rising at the top of the slot. Due to
a four-on-situation, Leone was able to get off a clear shot. The Quinnipiac transfer wound up and
blasted a perfectly placed slapshot in top right portion of the cage at 8:40 for the 2-0 lead.
Freshman Kylie Klassen added another goal at the 11:24 mark of the opening session after
redirecting an initial attempt from Rising. Klassen responded quickly on the marker, snaring the
puck off the carom and flicked it past Nagel for the 3-0 edge.
At 13:48 of the first, junior blue liner Gabrielle Beaudry was whistled for holding, putting the
Orange down a skater, but that didn’t stop co-captain Stefanie Marty from breaking up Sacred
Heart’s powerplay opportunity. Marty pilfered the puck from Sacred Heart and dashed up the
left side of the ice for a one-on-one opportunity. Marty deked to her right and tipped in a nifty
backhanded shot over Nagel’s outstretched glove at 15:02 for Syracuse’s first short-handed goal of
the season.
Rising followed Marty’s short-handed goal after knocking the puck through the legs of the
Pioneers’ netminder immediately following faceoff in Sacred Heart’s zone at 17:56.
Freshman forward Janelle Malcolm added SU’s sixth marker, her third of the season, at 18:15 of
the first stanza to give the Orange a 6-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
Both teams played to a 0-0 draw in the second period, but the Orange made its offensive presence
felt once again in the third period as freshman forward Megan Skelly tacked on SU’s second shorthanded marker on the evening. Skelly’s goal paralleled Marty’s man-down tally after hustling down
the left side of the neutral zone, cutting across the crease on a double-deke maneuver, finishing off
the play by beating Nagel on a sensational effort at 5:22 of the third period.
Rising knocked in her second goal at 6:22 of the third by poking in a loose puck on the near side
of a vicious scrum in front of the goal for the 8-0 lead. Rising’s marker, coming from Marty’s first
helper on the night, counted for SU’s third and final short-handed goal.
Sophomore forward Rebecca Gordon chipped in for SU’s ninth goal with Klassen and Leone
setting up the play at 13:25.
As a cap to the ground-breaking event, former Syracuse softball standout Rachel Tilford closed
out the Orange attack on a firm wrist shot from about 15 feet out. The puck bounced off the glove
and hit the top of the cage at 18:45.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University ice hockey team did not let last night’s big victory in the
historic home opener against Sacred Heart stand in the way of a three-game winning streak as the
Orange toppled the Pioneers, 7-3, on Saturday at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
Freshman Megan Skelly combined for three points in the contest through two goals, including
her second powerplay goal on the season, and one assist.
Senior defenseman Nikki Leone finished off an impressive weekend with two goals on Saturday,
including one of three Syracuse powerplay markers. In Friday night’s contest, Leone recorded a goal
and an assist, apiece.
For the first time this year, Flanagan tested all three of his netminders. Junior Lucy Schoedel,
freshman Steph Jones and junior Alison Lee each started one period of play, respectively. For Lee, it
was her first action in the Orange sweater. Schoedel remained perfect on the weekend, blocking four
shots in the first stanza. Jones made nine stops and yielded one SHU goal in the second frame while
Lee stepped in for the final session of play and allowed two tallies while turning away eight attempts.
Skelly notched the first Syracuse goal in powerplay fashion just 2:45 into the contest after SHU’s
Jennifer Burroughs was sent to the box at 1:45. Skelly meandered around the crease and dumped
the puck past Amanda Nagel for the early 1-0 edge. Sophomore Stefanie Marty and Lisa Mullan
were recognized with the assists.
Skelly’s assertive offensive play put the Orange ahead 2-0 at 5:09 after Cheyenne Bojeski
provided the freshman with a great pass in the open zone. Skelly posted three goals in the weekend
series.
Bojeski recorded her second point of the day just 14 second later at 5:23 on a crafty maneuver in
front of Nagel to broaden the Orange’s advantage, 3-0. Janelle Malcolm and Taylor Metcalfe set
up the play, applying heavy pressure on SHU in the opening moments of the game. Metcalfe’s assist
denoted her first point for SU.
Sophomore captain Julie Rising complemented her impressive weekend with a powerplay
marker at 14:10 of the first period to keep SU ahead, 5-0, which proved to be the game-winner.
Rising blasted the disc past Nagel for her team-leading fifth point in two days.
Sacred Heart put its first tally on the board just 37 seconds into the second installment of play.
Kate Dunlop found a way around Jones to cut into the Orange’s advantage on assists from Gina
Arnone and Lauren Fontaine.
Malcolm negated the Pioneers attack with her fourth goal of the season at 3:31 of the second.
Rising and senior Rachel Tilford orchestrated the Orange tally for the 5-1 lead.
At 15:44 of the second, Leone discovered the back of the cage with one of her patented slapshots
at the top of the slot. Skelly doled out the puck to a wide open Leone for SU’s sixth goal on the day.
Mullan was awarded the assist on the play, as well.
Sacred Heart countered with two goals at 11:06 and 13:01 of the third stanza, 6-3.
Leone lit the lamp for Syracuse one final time at the 16:08 mark. Leone accepted a pass from Marty
at the top of the far side circle and discharged another missile past Nagel for the 7-3 victory. Mullan
received her third helper on the play, marking an Orange season-high for assists in a single game.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team held a 1-0 advantage for nearly half the game at the Onondaga County War Memorial on Friday night, but Mercyhurst’s powerplay overcame the Orange attack. The
Lakers recorded two powerplay markers within just more than a minute to take a 2-1 advantage en route to
a 4-1 victory.
Freshman forward Megan Skelly, last week’s recipient of the CHA Rookie of the Week Award, added to
her team-leading total by putting in her sixth goal of the season. Leading up to Syracuse’s third conference
tilt against Mercyhurst, Skelly was tied for second in the CHA in freshmen scoring with 0.89 points per game,
which was also good enough for a sixth place tie, overall, in the league. SU’s leading goal scorer was also tied
for third in the CHA with 0.56 goals per game and 0.22 powerplay goals per contest. Skelly has scored in her
last three contests, including four goals and two assists.
Freshman winger Lisa Mullan tallied her team-leading eighth assist on Skelly’s goal. Mullan was tied for
second in the CHA with 0.78 assists per game and tied for sixth in points with 0.89 per game. In her last outing against Sacred Heart, she became the first Orange skater to have doled out three helpers in one game.
Mullan and Skelly are both knotted for the team-lead with nine points.
Junior netminder Lucy Schoedel tied her career-high with 41 saves in the contest. Schoedel made
numerous crowd-rousing stops in the first period to safeguard the Orange’s lead. Syracuse’s goaltender faced
45 Lakers’ shots on Friday night.
Skelly put Syracuse on the board first early in match. At 1:03 into the first period, Skelly accepted a pass
from Mullan on the farside circle and delivered a wide-open shot past Mercyhurst’s Hillary Pattenden for the
early 1-0 Orange advantage.
Both teams tussled in each other’s zones for the remainder of the first period. Mercyhurst tied the game
at 8:14 of the second period on a powerplay goal when Meghan Agosta beat Schoedel stick side directly in
front of the crease. Valerie Chouinard supplied Aogsta with the opportunity to level the score, 1-1.
About a minute later, Syracuse found itself in the penalty box once again. Chouinard capitalized on the
extra-man opportunity for what proved to be the game-winner at 9:18 of the second stanza from an Agosta
feed. Vicki Benuds was credited with the second assist.
The Orange hung tough for the remainder of the game, but Mercyhurst’s offense found the back of the
net two more times before the final horn. Jesse Scanzano added two more Lakers’ markers at 13:43 and 18:33
of the third period to conclude the game, 4-1.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse ice hockey team was met by a powerful Mercyhurst attack all day in
a 7-1 setback on Saturday afternoon at the Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Orange was outshot 53-17 in its
fourth conference matchup of the inaugural season.
Junior goaltender Lucy Schoedel topped her career-best and reset the standard to 46 saves in a
contest. Schoedel displayed numerous acrobatic stops to support the Orange defense.
Freshman forward Lisa Mullan recorded her second goal of the year with approximately 30 seconds remaining in the second period. Mullan was assisted by freshman Megan Skelly and Stefanie
Marty on the Orange tally. Last night, Mullan aided Skelly in her eighth goal of the year as the two
newcomers remain tied for the team-lead with 10 points apiece. Marty is tied for second on the team
with eight overall points (three goals, five assists).
Jess Scanzamo drew first blood at 12:11 of the first period by dumping the puck past Schoedel in
front of the net for the early 1-0 Lakers’ lead. Jess Jones and Valerie Chouinard were awarded the assists. Shortly after, Meghan Agosta tallied the first of three Mercyhurst powerplay goals at 13:33 from
an effective pass off of Vicki Bendus’ stick.
Just 17 seconds into the second stanza, Hayley McMeekin poked the puck underneath Schoedel’s
pad for the second extra-man marker at 00:17 for the 3-0 edge. Bendus set up Mercyhurst’s goal for
the second consecutive play. At 5:35, Agosta tacked on her second lamplighter of the afternoon on
a feed from Scanzano to go up 4-0. Kelley Steadman exploited the Orange penalty killing unit one
last time after accepting a dish from Bailey Bram at 11:28 of the second frame for the five-goal lead.
Agosta added the last installment of her hat trick on Saturday in a similar fashion as her second marker
thanks to another Scanzano assist.
Syracuse responded when Skelly cleared the puck in transition to a wide-open Mullan. Mullan
blistered down the sheet, deked Lakers’ Hillary Pattenden one time and then flipped in the Orange’s
lone tally of the game. Mullan’s goal from Skelly and Marty set the score at 6-1 at 19:28 of the second
session.
Jones pinned one more goal to the Lakers’ side of the board at 9:45 of the third period by way of
Scanzano’s third assist of the game, finishing off the playmaker.
DETROIT, Mich. – In what proved to be a physical battle, the Syracuse ice hockey team rallied from
a four-goal deficit in the third period to scare CHA opponent Wayne State with about three minutes
remaining, but the late end charge was not enough in the 5-3 decision.
Keeta Koalska tallied her first career goal for Syracuse at the City Sports Center on Saturday
evening as part of the final effort in the third period while Kylie Klassen and Stefanie Marty each
recorded their first powerplay goals for the Orange this season.
Megan Skelly registered her team-leading 11th point of the season on Marty’s powerplay Marker
whereas Rebecca Gordon and Rachel Tilford each notched their second point of the year on
Koalska’s score.
Goaltender Lucy Schoedel started her 12th consecutive game for the Orange, making 16 saves
on 21 shots to stretch her SU career total to 315 total stops. Freshman netminder Steph Jones was
tested in her third appearance, thwarting five shots in a scoreless third period. Jones’ blank frame
marks the first time she’s stood in net for a scoreless 20 minutes.
The Warriors attacked first at 7:17 into the first period. Melissa Boal scored her 10th goal of the
season from a Chelsea Burnett assist to spot Wayne State the early 1-0 edge.
Klassen wiped out the Warriors lead with SU’s first powerplay marker of the night 2:28 later in the
first after Rising facilitated the open shot in front of Delayne Brian at 4:49 to even the count, 1-1.
Syracuse continued to apply pressure in the first half, outshooting Wayne State, 12-8, in the first
stanza, but the Warriors snuck in a momentum-crippling goal with 13 seconds remaining in the period. Alyssa Baldin grabbed a rebound near the far circle and slipped it past Schoedel for the 2-1 lead
at 00:13. Lindsay DiPietro and Veronique Laramee-Paquette were awarded the assists after firing the
first two initial shots during the scoring play.
After Nikki Leone was sent to the box for a hooking call at 15:43, Boal charged into a pile in front
of the goal mouth and poked one past Schoedel for WSU’s first powerplay goal of the evening to take
the two-goal edge, 3-1, at 13:55 of the second session.
Following the extra-man marker, Poyton and Boal streaked down the ice to set up an odd-man
situation. Poyton ripped a shot at the 11:00 minute mark which was initially stopped by Schoedel,
but the puck’s momentum carried across the goal line for the 4-1 lead.
At 3:15, Laramee-Paquette was flagged for a roughing call giving the Orange the powerplay opportunity, but the extra skater for SU unluckily gave way to another Wayne State goal. Baldin tallied
her second goal in short-handed fashion after finding herself in a one-on-one situation against
Schoedel. Baldin beat SU’s netminder for the 5-1 advantage.
Syracuse staged a third period comeback with two goals, including its second powerplay tally,
within 1:12 of each other. Marty accepted a pass from Skelly and released the puck from her stick
past Brian for the second Orange extra-man goal with 3:47 to go in the third period, 5-2. Koalska
emulated Marty and drew the difference to two goals with 2:35 remaining in the contest. Koalska
deposited the disc for SU’s third goal of the game from a Gordon dish.
Freshman forward Lisa Mullan echoed a shot off the pipe with about a minute to go as a last
ditch effort, but the two-goal flurry was not enough as Wayne State prevailed, 5-3.

DETROIT, Mich. – Janelle Malcolm put the Orange in position to claim its first conference game
on Saturday afternoon, but Syracuse had its lead lifted early in the second period and Wayne State
never looked back. Syracuse suffered its fourth straight conference loss at the City Sports Center,
5-2.
Kelly Dimmen notched her first career goal for Syracuse in powerplay fashion while Jessica
Frump aided on SU’s first goal for her second point of the season. Rebecca Gordon registered her
second point of the season, third of the year, by setting up Malcolm on her fifth goal of the season
along with Frump.
Stefanie Marty dished out her sixth assist of the season on Dimmen’s extra-man marker. Marty is
now second on the squad with six assists and 10 points.
Malcolm now has five goals on the season, six points altogether.
Lucy Schoedel rebounded in game two of the Wayne State series with a huge first period by
blocking 16 shots, 35 in all. Schoedel recorded her 350th save in SU’s 13th game of the year. The
third-year goaltender has logged 698:32, allowing 3.61 goals per game and stopping 89.3% of the
shots she’s faced.
Malcolm accounted for the first goal of the game at 13:22 of the first period for the early 1-0
advantage. Frump and Gordon engineered the scoring play.
Keeta Koalska was caught with the tripping call with 6:23 to go in the first frame, yielding a
game-tying powerplay tally from Wayne State’s Chelsea Burnett at 4:34.
Melissa Boal potted her 12th goal of the season just 13 seconds into the seconds of the period
at 19:47. Jill Szandzik put one by Schoedel for her first goal of the season at 13:35 for WSU’s second
extra-man score.
Although Syracuse hung tough the rest of the game, Wayne State would not relinquish its lead.
Sam Poyton knocked in the game-winner at 13:52 of the second period. Dimmen dunked the
Orange powerplay goal past WSU’s goaltender Delayne Brian to slice Syracuse’s deficit to two goals,
but just a minute into the third period, Alyssa Baldin tallied her third goal of the weekend at 18:59 to
put the game out of SU’s reach, 5-2.
Syracuse was outshot 40-12 in Saturday’s showdown.
ERIE, Pa. – Megan Skelly expanded upon her team-leading point total with Syracuse’s lone tally in
a 5-1 loss at the Mercyhurst Ice Center on Friday evening.
Skelly deposited with her seventh goal of the season at CHA opponent No. 9-ranked Mercyhurst
to carry on the Orange points lead with 12 overall (7 G, 5 A). Heading into Syracuse’s 14th game
of the season, Skelly was the leading point scorer amongst all freshmen in the CHA. On a national
scale, Skelly was tied for 16th in goals per game amid all freshmen skaters. The first-year winger was
also tied for 48th in country in goals per game (0.46 gpg).
Stefanie Marty contributed her seventh assist on the season to overtake Lisa Mullan for second
place in the SU points race. The second-year transfer from the University of New Hampshire is
second behind Skelly in points (11) and Mullan in assists (7).
Lucy Schoedel hindered 34 Lakers’ attempts in the first tilt of a two-game set. Heading into
Syracuse’s seventh CHA contest, Schoedel had made 350 saves, upping her total to 384. SU’s starting
netminder is allowing 3.72 goals per game and has stopped 89.1 percent of the shots she’s faced
(384-of-431).
Rebecca Gordon registered the most shots on Mercyhurst’s goaltender Hillary Pattenden with
three.
The Lakers set the precedent early, putting three goals by Schoedel in the opening stanza. Vicki
Bendus drew first blood at 7:24 of the first period followed up by two more Mercyhurst tallies at 4:12
and 3:53, both by Valerie Chouinard.
Skelly tipped in her seventh marker of the year with 13:30 to play in the second period, but
Jesse Scanzano hampered the Orange with a goal late in the same frame with 1:46 remaining on a
Meghan Agosta helper. The Lakers’ duo coupled up again in the early moments of the third period
at 3:14 to set the final score, 5-1.
The final shot figures were listed at 39-13 in favor of Mercyhurst. Hayley McMeekin emerged as
Friday’s point leader with three assists while Chouinard, Scanzano and Agosta and all notched two

ERIE, Pa. – Megan Skelly flexed her muscle once again on Saturday afternoon, scoring a goal in her
second consecutive game in a 9-2 loss at the Mercyhurst Ice Center.
Skelly added an assist later on in the game at No. 9-ranked Mercyhurst. The first-year forward
notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season and sustained her Orange points lead with 14,
overall. Heading into the weekend series, Skelly was the leading point scorer amongst all freshmen in
the CHA. Nationally, Skelly was tied for 16th in goals per game amid all freshmen skaters. She was also
tied for 48th in country in goals per game (0.46 gpg).
Kylie Klassen has come on strong as of late, securing her second powerplay goal in the last
four games, drawing even with Skelly for the team-lead in extra-man markers with two. Klassen’s
powerplay blast ended Mercyhurst’s string of 41 consecutive penalty kills.
Lisa Mullan received credit for her team-best ninth assist of the year on Klassen’s tally while senior
defenseman Nikki Leone offered her fourth assist of the season, seventh point overall.
Lucy Schoedel made her 15th uninterrupted start of the season, facing a barrage of Lakers’
attempts all afternoon. Schoedel, the target of 50 shots, turned aside 41 in three periods of play. The
third-year netminder broke the 400-save mark on Saturday and has prevented 425 total shots this
season. She has allowed 4.11 goals per game in and has stopped 88.4 percent (425-of-481) of the
shots she’s faced in 15 games.
Stefanie Marty challenged Mercyhurst’s goaltender with a team-high four shots, apiece.
Skelly’s goal turned out to be the initial lamplighter in Erie just 3:14 into the first period. SU’s points’
leader was assisted by Leone on the first goal of the game.
Mercyhurst responded with eight unanswered goals. Cassea Schols opened up the onslaught at
14:47 of the first period in shorthanded fashion. Jess Jones and Vicki Bendus scored an even strength
and powerplay marker, respectively, to close out the first 20 minutes with a 4-1 advantage.
Meghan Agosta profited from a Marty tripping call at the 7:05 mark of the second period and
Ashley Cockell reciprocated at 17:29 with another powerplay tally after Jessica Frump was whistled
for roughing.
Mercyhurst piled onto its 6-1 lead after two periods when Jesse Scanzano beat Schoedel for the
Lakers’ fourth and final extra-man goal of the day at 3:23 of the third period. Agosta interjected with
her second goal at 7:45, but Klassen’s six-on-five tally at 16:37 got one more on the board for the
Orange.
Bailey Bram tacked on a late goal with just two second remaining in the contest to settle the 9-2
score.
