Art History course is a chronological survey of the history of major art forms in the Western tradition, in addition to selected works from many cultures that exist beyond European tradition. Its aim is to get the students acquainted with essential events in the art history determined the development of European civilization. The result of this course should be a free orientation of the students in the field of main artistic styles and trends. They also should obtain the information about the famous artists as well as well known masterpieces of the world art. Personal examination of the masterpieces of Art and Architecture from antiquity till nowadays will develop into a unique understanding of the formal, historical, and socio/political context of the artworks. MAIN TASK OF THE COURSE comprises the systematical knowledge of the students of the main periods of the world art development as well as creativity of the outstanding masters of painting and sculpture. The students should also know the peculiarities of kinds and genres of artistic activity and forming the artistic and compositional unity in synthesis of architecture and fine arts. The method of teaching is based on the principle of chronological description of material with accentuation on key problems, names, monuments. The events and facts are exposed in combination with artistic analysis of a number of the outstanding works of world art. AS A RESULT OF THE DISCIPLINE THE STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO distinguish time, styles, national peculiarities of the main artistic schools in Europe through the ages. STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE. The course consists of a sequence of lectures (30 hours). During the course the students should prepare papers on various topics on art history (three papers per term). General characteristics. 6. Requirements for attendance. Maximum number of points for attendance is 10 points. In case of students’ attendance all the classes during the semester, they get 10 points. Every 10 % of total number of missed classes results in loss of 1 point. In case of exceeding the acceptable limit of missed classes the students are not allowed to taking the exam. Special desicion should be taking concerning their further position. 7. Assessment of students knowledge Maximum number of points for knowledge is 100. 50 of them students collect during the semester, while 50 points are determined for exam. The scored during the semester 50 points include: 10 points per attendance, 10 points for writing papers (three papers per term), 30 points as a result of intermediate tests. During the examination the students must score at least 17 points. In case of more than 25% of missed classes, the students are not allowed to exam. According to the European Credit System for the results of points accumulated for the semester, the students are evaluated as follows: Less than 51 points 51 - 60 points 61 - 70 points 71 - 80 points 81 - 90 points 91 - 100 points – – – – – – «non satisfactory» «acceptably» “satisfactory” «good» “very good” “best” –F –E –D –C –B –A 8. Violation of the rules of conduct. In case of violation by the student the code of conduct provided by the University the activities under the Regulations will be applied. 9.
