Ute Indians Ute Indians had some horses. Ute Indians had undecorated teepees for their homes. They are called Mountain Top Indians. Because Ute Indians had horses they could catch moose, elk, deer, and buffalo. Their teepees were made of elk, and deer skins. The women didn’t braid their hair but the men did. In cooler weather the men wore shirts and leggings. The women wore anklelength dresses made of animal skins. Ute Indians loved the outdoors. When they were ready to move they would put their stuff in a “Travois”. Horses were their most prized possessions. They wore skin moccasins or sandals woven of joss weed.
