RapidSTACK TM
TM
MCL’s RapidSTACK chambers are a superior alternative to traditional
class B engineering brickwork, blockwork or reinforced cast concrete
and plastic chambers on the market.
TM
RapidSTACK is extremely quick to install as there is no need for a concrete
surround or internal bracing, is available in a wide range of sizes and is highly cost
effective with significantly lower labour, plant and road closure costs.
TM
RapidSTACK is lightweight - the sections and smaller rings conforms to HSE
manual handling regulations for ‘one man lift’ weighing less than 16kgs. The
chambers are tested to EN124: B125, D400 and E600 loadings.
TM
RapidSTACK’s unique design of interchangeable sections provides a flexibility of
clear opening chamber sizes, simply bolt four sections together to create a
stackable ring. Each ring is 150mm deep, stack the rings together in the
pre-prepared excavation to create a chamber of the required depth. Visit
mcl-infrastructure.co.uk for full installation guidelines.

RapidSTACK TM Highways
TM
MCL’s RapidSTACK Highway Communication
Chambers are fully compliant with the current
specification for highway works, 1500 series, and
are the preferred solution for highways jointing
chambers. All chamber sizes are suitable for
specified chamber sizes and are manufactured to
the latest MCX0815 specification.
TM
Each RapidSTACK chamber ring has a unique 76mm bedding
area for the specified cover to sit on, ensuring that the full
B125 or D400 loading is accurately distributed. As a result of
the high strength of MCL’s Highway communication chamber,
no internal bracing is required during the installation process.

5 Innovation & Reliability in Engineered Composites
MCC Kiosk with Chamber
Following consultations with water companies about the challenges of AMP6, MCL considered
how the group’s existing range of composite products could be combined to deliver value to our
customers. MCL Utility, supplying the water sector with GRP kiosks and enclosures, identified
an opportunity for MCC kiosks.
Traditionally, the power to a motor control centre is fed
through the top left-hand side of its kiosk or from
underneath through a concrete chamber. Most often the
underground entry method is used due to the problems
associated with overhead cabling.
The MCL solution resolves the issue of civil construction
of a bottom entry concrete
base by combining the kiosk
TM
with a RapidSTACK chamber.
The combination offers a unique opportunity for
innovation and standardisation. With a standard width
and depth, the length of the chamber suits the MCC, in
increments of 1m up to 11m long. With both elements of
the package being built off-site, up to two weeks are
saved on site which reduces costs and lowers the risk of
accidents.
Step 1: RapidSTACK chamber
assembled off-site complete with
cable bearers, step irons and
pre-drilled duct entries.
Step 2: Chamber positioned onto
prepared concrete base then
surrounded by concrete/backfill/
MOT type1 to surface level.
Step 3: Control panels delivered
and placed onto pre-installed
bearers.
Step 4: GRP kiosk delivered
full-assembled and fixed down
Reduced project design time
Standard manufacturing processes
Shortening lead-times
Efficiency in construction with off-site build and
standard assembly methods
Ensuring high-grade, low maintenance, long-life
installations
Significantly reduced material and installation costs
Less disruption on site
Ideal for wastewater and clean water sites
as well as other industries
Fixed Height Chambers
MCL Joint Boxes were originally designed for the cable
TV industry in which their many benefits are widely recognised. Utility and other market sectors have also adopted
Joint Boxes for their underground cable duct chamber
requirements.

RapidSTACK+
MCL have designed and developed a ground breaking, fast build, ducted chamber system for the Utility and
TSSL markets.
RapidSTACK+™ overcomes the problems associated with conventional
access chambers which require concrete surround, making the system
extremely cost effective during the installation process. Achieving B125
loading with an integral composite cover, the patented, interchangeable
RapidSTACK+™design is available in sizes ranging from 290mm x 275mm
to 1200mm x 600mm.
RapidSTACK+™ is extremely quick to install - simply bolt four sections
together to create a stackable ring. Each ring is 150mm deep, stack the
rings together in the pre-prepared excavation to create a chamber of the
required depth. Raising pieces and ‘height and tilt’ pieces are available to
create a perfectly flush top ring which incorporates the composite cover.
Visit mcl-infrastructure.co.uk for full installation guidelines.
Features
RapidSTACK+™ V conventional methods
All too often, projects using visually pleasing hard
landscaping products are blighted by service duct
chambers that are surrounded by an infil of concrete
which destroys the overall effect. The concrete can crack
and disintegrate and, over time, this area traps litter and
becomes an unsightly potential trip hazard.
No need for galvanised or ductile frame support
No need for concrete surround, eliminating time and cost
during installation
Rebated design enables B125 composite cover to fit flush

Knock-out duct entries - no drilling required
Decorative concrete, tarmac, block paviours, slabs etc. can be
laid directly alongside the chamber creating a level surface

Pole Retention Sockets
Following the successful launch of the composite 115mm pole
retention socket, MCL have developed a range for illuminated and
non-illuminated poles and columns up to 168mm diameter.
The Pole Retention Socket range allows a damaged or destroyed traffic
signal pole or lighting column to be replaced in minutes. Once installed, the
anti-rotational cam locking mechanism holds the pole in place, loosening
the mechanism with a socket or ratchet enables fast removal and
replacement TMof a damaged pole.
Combined with the widely used
RapidSTACK+ access chamber, the MCL system offers many advantages
over traditional ductile iron or steel sockets. The MCL guard rail socket and
loop box compliments our comprehensive range of products for the Street
Furniture, Traffic Signals, Street Lighting and Communication markets.
MCL retention sockets have been tested in conjunction with passively safe
support structures that meet the requirements of EN12767. The retention
sockets show no signs of mechanical failure and work effectively after
several impacts. MCL retention sockets do not adversely affect the passive
safety perfomance of the support structure.

Composite Road Plate System
MCL’s Composite Road Plate System is ideal for the
utility and infrastructure market sectors.
The MCL carriageway system enables utility companies
and their contractors to quickly deploy a safe road
crossing over a trench thereby maintaining traffic flow
and avoiding congestion. The product is very simple: an
interlocking composite plate system with a patented
locking mechanism to fasten it into place in minutes. The
many advantages of this system over the traditional steel
roadplates include being lighter and quicker to install,
increasing site operator safety due to being a two-man lift
and increasing road safety due to its high visibility and
non-slip surface. A standard road crossing is deployed in
minutes without drilling the road surface, therefore
reducing congestion like never before.
For linear trenches, road crossings and core-vac works
National Grid ‘Best Practice’
Tested and recommended for use by the Transport
Research Laboratory (TRL)
Testing sponsored by Transport for London (TfL) and the
Department of Transport
No need for specialist lifting equipment to deploy

Interlocking boards with an ‘anti-slip surface’ design
Spans trench up to 700mm in width, any length of run
TRL Recommendation
The newly developed Carriageway Road Plate System board
was internally load tested in June 2012, and exceeded the
required loading of 5.75 tonnes by a significant margin. In
August 2012 the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) in
Wokingham commenced testing of the whole system. This
testing is sponsored by Transport for London (TfL) and the
Department of Transport as part of their undertaking to find
quick wins in reducing congestion on London’s road network.
The test included an accelerated test on a specially designed
rig, which passed a loaded rotating lorry wheel 65,000 times
at loads of between 4 and 5.75 tonnes over the system at
speeds of up to 20mph. The Transport Research Laboratory
completed the testing of our system on the 5th November
2012 and recommended for use.
