Decorative Concrete Dye • • • • • • Interior/Exterior Finish Water-Based Acid Free Dye Consistent Color Accuracy Complete Project Kit Transform Plain Concrete Wet-Look Sealer Protects and Enhances Color WHERE TO USE Uncoated and unsealed, properly prepared Interior or Exterior concrete surfaces such as: Patios, Porches, Pavers, Walkways, Kitchens, Bedrooms and other Concrete Floors. WHERE NOT TO USE DO NOT use on areas subject to automotive tires and around swimming pools. DO NOT apply on surfaces subject to hydrostatic pressure. DO NOT apply over sealed or waterproofed concrete surfaces. DO NOT use over previously painted surfaces. DO NOT use over loose or damaged concrete or if concrete dust is present. Do not use BEHR® D-991 Cleaner & Etcher (included) on marble, granite, terrazzo, colored concrete, brass, bronze or copper. If treating surfaces other than concrete, test a small inconspicuous area before starting project. PREPARATION † (Proper surface preparation is required.) New concrete must cure for a minimum of 30 days. Protect surrounding areas using plastic sheeting or drop cloths before starting your project. Protect grass and any nearby plants by dampening with water and covering with plastic. Scrape and sweep away dirt and loose contaminates on the surface. Refrain from using a power washer as the power washer may leave permanent marks. Wipe up all excess oil and grease spills. FOR EXTERIOR SURFACES: For severe oil or grease stains use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM® NO. 990 Concrete & Masonry Degreaser & Cleaner. Remove excess water with a non-metal squeegee or mop. Prevent all rinse solution from entering storm drain. For proper penetration and adhesion, use BEHR NO. D-991 Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher. Wear protective clothing, goggles and acid resistant rubber gloves & boots. Mix the 1 quart Cleaner & Etcher into 3 quarts of water using a plastic watering can (do not use metal can). Stir diluted solution thoroughly and avoid splashing. Apply Cleaner & Etcher to dry surface and allow product to stand for 10-20 minutes then scrub vigorously. Do not let product dry on the surface. Rinse surface thoroughly with fresh water while scrubbing at the same time to properly remove all remaining residue. Once the surface is completely dry, check for dust or powder residue. Repeat rinsing step if residue is still present. Important: Failure to completely rinse the concrete surface may result in adhesion issues. The surface is ready when it feels like medium grit sandpaper and no residue or loose concrete remains on the surface. FOR INTERIOR SURFACES: Cover all air vents and ducts before starting the cleaning process. Remove stain with BEHR PREMIUM NO. 990 and prepare the surface with BEHR PREMIUM NO. 991 following the steps described under exterior surfaces. Remove the Cleaner & Etcher residue using a mop and bucket to minimize the amount of water left on the concrete surface. After cleaning and removing all the Cleaner & Etcher residue, allow the surface to completely dry. No. 860 Tuscan Stone No. 862 Desert Oasis PUMP SPRAYER Read all assembly and operating instructions carefully before using the pump sprayer. When not in use, soak the tip of the pump sprayer in water to prevent the tip from becoming clogged. APPLICATION The surface must be clean, dry and free of dust, grease, oil, curing agents and other contaminants for the Dye to penetrate and adhere properly. Do not thin. Stir Base Color and Accent Color in can before pouring into the pump sprayer. Do not apply tape or other adhesives to surfaces that have been coated with the Dye or Sealer as the adhesives may remove the coatings. Use product when air and surface temperatures are between 50–90°F. Do not apply if heavy winds are blowing, or if dew or rain is expected within 24 hours. Important: Test a small inconspicuous area and allow Dye to dry before starting your project to ensure color satisfaction. Refer to the instructional DVD (included) for detailed information and application tips. BASE COLOR: Fill the pump sprayer with Base Color and fully pressurize. Tip: Adjust the pump sprayer brass nozzle tip until you reach a fine mist setting and practice spraying on a piece of cardboard or newspaper. Apply Base color using a random or figure-eight motion being careful not to create a pattern on the concrete. Hold the spray tip approximately 10 inches above the concrete and finely mist on the surface (refrain from covering the concrete surface with an even, steady stream as this could lead to a monochromatic look rather than a variegated look). If you need to stop during application step, use natural break points such as borders, walls or expansion joints. Save any unused product for future touch-ups. Important: To prevent drips from getting on the surface, use a rag to catch any drips when stopping the sprayer. Apply at a spread rate of 175-250 sq. ft. per gallon depending on the porosity and texture of the surface. Allow Base Color to dry (approx. 1-2 hrs. depending on temperature and humidity) to the touch before applying the Accent Color. Do not walk on wet Dye. ACCENT COLOR: Flush pump sprayer and wand with fresh water. Add Accent Color to clean pump sprayer and fully pressurize. Apply Accent in the same method as Base color. Apply Accent Color at a spread rate of 175-250 sq. ft. per half gallon. Allow Accent Color to dry 24 hours before topcoating with Wet-Look Sealer. TOPCOAT: Flush pump sprayer and wand with fresh water. Use Wet-Look Sealer (included) to protect and enhance the Concrete Dye. Do not thin Sealer. Stir or gently shake before applying. Fill the pump sprayer with Wet-Look Sealer and fully pressurize. Apply a thin coat at a spread rate of 150-300 sq. ft. per gallon. Spread rate is highly dependent on surface roughness and porosity. Allow first coat to dry 4 hours, then apply a thin second coat. Important: Make sure you apply two very thin coats. Do not over apply the product or allow the product to puddle as this could lead to the product drying milky in color. Dries to touch in 1 hour. Longer dry time required in cooler temperatures and in higher humidity. Floors may be subjected to light foot traffic after 24 hours. Allow 72 hours before repositioning furniture or subjecting surface to heavy foot traffic. Wait at least 30 days before cleaning with a mild, non-abrasive liquid detergent. Caution: Use caution when shoveling snow or moving sharp or heavy objects across the surface, as this may damage the Wet-Look Sealer & Concrete Dye. Note: Horizontal surfaces Decorative Concrete Dye • • • • • • Interior/Exterior Finish Water-Based Acid Free Dye Consistent Color Accuracy Complete Project Kit Transform Plain Concrete Wet-Look Sealer Protects and Enhances Color No. 860 Tuscan Stone No. 862 Desert Oasis may be subject to excessive wear. Use a product such as BEHR PREMIUM NO. 985 Wet-Look Sealer for periodic touch-ups, to increase gloss level, or for added protection. CLEAN UP Clean with soap and water. Properly dispose of all soiled rags and protect unused product from freezing. For disposal of empty containers and unused product contact your household refuse collection service. MAINTENANCE CLEANING: To keep your project looking great and to remove dirt build up or efflorescence (efflorescence is a chalky white salt residue that can occur with cementatious surfaces), clean with a mixture of a product such as BEHR PREMIUM NO. 991 Concrete & Masonry Cleaner & Etcher and water. Mix a ratio of 10 parts water to 1 part NO. 991 and apply with a plastic watering can and bristle broom. For severe hard water staining or severe efflorescence, use a ratio of 4 parts water to 1 part NO. 991. TOUCH-UP: (Recommended for areas under 3” in diameter.) For areas that are chipping or de-laminating use a fine grit sandpaper (220 grit is recommended) to smooth out the edges. Remove any dirt, dust, or loose debris surrounding the touch-up area. Using a foam brush or rag (cloth), dab the affected area using the Base Color. Allow Base Color to dry to the touch. Repeat application steps using the Accent Color. Alternate between the Base Color and Accent Color applications until you achieve your desired color. After both colors are completely dry, apply the Wet-Look Sealer with a foam brush using a feathering motion (this will help prevent lap marks from the brush). Allow Wet-Look Sealer to dry and apply a second coat of sealer if necessary. Note: For areas larger than 3” in diameter use the pump sprayer to apply the Dyes and Sealer, following the same instructions as above. WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
