repeated absences, and a general dismissive attitude. The only

WHAT IS THE COUNSELOR’S
ROLE?
To write letter of recommendation for college and scholarships
Assist students with finding a school that is the “Right Fit”
Most colleges/universities want to see at least 5 academic classes
the senior year. Competition for admission is extremely
competitive! Students should check with their colleges before
dropping/eliminating academic classes.
WHAT IS THE STUDENT’S ROLE IN THE
APPLICATION PROCESS?
Students are responsible for sending Test Scores
Create an appropriate e-mail address. Use for applications, Family
Connections and Common App.
Be aware of each colleges requirement and deadlines.
Complete and submit application before deadline (don’t wait until
the last minute).
Follow SVHS College Application Process
Check each college’s scholarship webpage, Family Connections and
the College and Career page for scholarship lists.
THE UNIVERSITY OF
MARYLAND APPLICATION
Priority deadline is November 1st.
Submit by this date for best chance to be considered for Honors,
Gemstone, Scholars, and Merit Scholarships.
95% of the class will be selected from these applicants.
Test scores need to be sent directly from the test centers to
College Park. Request by October 1st.
Request official transcript by October 1st.
MONTGOMERY COLLEGE
Application online beginning October 1st – March 1st, 2017 FREE.
Due date for the Scholars Program and Macklin Program is in
January 2017. Separate Applications!
MC offers Associate’s degree and Certificate programs.
Students MUST take the Accuplacer if they do not have an ACT or
SAT score higher then a 20 for the ACT and a 500 for the SAT
Take assessment tests before registration No need to request
transcript to apply.
ACCUPLACER
• Determines course placement at many colleges in Maryland if you did not
receive a 20 on each section of the ACT or 500 on both sections of the SAT.
• Test is Untimed so take your time – pace yourself
• Take it SERIOUSLY!!!
• Use online study guides online at: www.montgomerycollege.edu
• A student who tests at the lowest developmental levels will pay an additional
$2,700 (county rate) and complete at least two additional semesters in noncredit courses.
NCAA PROCEDURES
Student athletes considering Division I or II colleges must register
with NCAA no later than October 1st. Request fee waiver when you
register.

NCAA code is 9999 for SAT/ACT scores to be sent.
Request transcript via NCAA online when registering. SVHS will
