E-BULLETIN CHILDCARE STUDENT FUNDING If you have been offered either a conditional or unconditional place at Glasgow Kelvin College for the 2015/16 session, and require assistance with childcare costs, please APPLY NOW. Request an application form from Student Funding via email: [email protected] or telephone on 0141 630 5190. Last session we supported over 350 learners through the Childcare Fund!!! Lone parents are guaranteed a minimum of £1215 (providing that they meet the funding criteria) “For many learners with children it would be extremely difficult to start or continue their learner journey without access to help with childcare costs”. (Michael Buchanan, Senior Funding Officer) Are you studying fulltime or part-time? Full-time Part-Time Full-time FE learners are eligible to apply. Full time HNC/HND learners are eligible to apply if they take out the maximum student loan. Part time HNC/D’s cannot apply for Childcare Funds, but may be eligible for help from the Discretionary Funds. Part-time FE courses (NQ,NC,ACCESS) can apply. Are you a single parent? No Yes – eligible to apply. All childcare providers must be registered with the Care Commission. Yes Is your partner working or studying? No Not eligible to apply. *Please note that the above flow chart assumes that applicants meet the residency criteria. If you have any residency enquiries please contact Student Funding via e-mail or telephone. If I am a continuing student, do I need to re-apply? Yes you must re-apply for funding each academic year, and all evidence must be provided again. Are the college holidays paid for? The college does not assist with the cost of childcare during the following holidays; October, Christmas or Easter. We do however cover short holidays, for example bank holidays and in- service days. Does the college have its own nursery? Unfortunately Glasgow Kelvin College does not have its own childcare provision. However there is wide range of childcare providers located near all five of our campuses, one of which is located inside the Easterhouse Campus. Can I change my childcare provider? If you wish to change your childcare provider, you MUST contact Student Funding to discuss this matter further, before changing. How will my childcare be paid? Childcare is paid monthly to the childcare provider, providing your attendance is above 80%. How many days of Childcare will be covered? We will only cover your college timetable, for example if you are scheduled in 2 full days and 1 half day, this is all that we will cover.
