Today Jesus promises the next
step. He will send us a
Paraclete, an advocate—the
Holy Spirit—to continue his
saving work. This is the hope we
all have that keeps the Church
and us optimistic despite the
troubles of this world. We need
the complete Trinity, in whose names we are
baptized, to lead a life that is “Spirit-based.” Are
you there yet?

Pledge Report:
$ 1,291,934.75
Total Paid to Date: $ 1,163,194.75
Balance:
$ 128,740.00
Please Be Aware!
The next phase of
construction is
tentatively set for
June 27.
This will entail ripping up the parking
lot and driveway, putting in dry wells,
re-doing the parking lot and driveway
(with more parking spaces--Alleluia),
installing better lighting around the
grounds, re-doing the sidewalks on the
grounds, and putting in the pavers
where the memorial garden will go.
This should take about 3 to 4 weeks.
Fr. Chris N.
Thank you to all who have made pledge
payments to Restoring the Glory—our
Renovation Campaign. In the summer of
2011, with your help, I am ready to move toward
completion of this historic achievement. As
mentioned above, the plans include an
improved parking lot, landscaping and
eventually a Memorial Garden near the Chapel
to honor donors and loved ones with a special
tribute to Father Jim who started the renovation
with you in 2007.
Probably the project will extend through
2012, at least. To complete the project without
any debt, it is necessary that I ask that all
pledges be completed. I will be grateful that you
complete the amount of your total pledge—as
you are able—or let me know what you can do to
help.
If you would like to receive additional
payment coupons, please contact Sister Valerie
at 234-6535.

Survey Responses
In order to save paper and time, I'd like to start
putting the comments from the surveys here in
the bulletin. They will be anonymous. It is
important that you the parishioner are aware of
what others are thinking. When the comments
in Spanish start coming in we will translate
them.
Fr. Chris N
“I would like to be a member of a parish where
EVERYONE feels welcome. Since Father Jim has
been gone it seems there are certain people who
are trying to step into leadership roles who really
shouldn’t be. I just don’t feel welcome anymore.
Too many people are trying to "run" things and it
makes many of us feel like outsiders in a parish
that we have belonged to for all of our lives.
Some of these people clearly get special
treatment-for example I see some of them come
into Mass late every week (and by late I mean
after the readings have begun). This is not an
example that should be set for younger
parishioners. And I am sure if "regular"
parishioners came in late EVERY week they
would be looked down upon when they got up to
receive communion after not fully participating in
the mass. I like Father Chris VERY much but I
feel as though he is being steam rolled by these
certain people who weren’t able to get away with
the things they are doing now when Father Jim
was here. Also, what happened to the memorial
garden? And we should have a vote to name it
after Father Jim. And, the crying room should be
pointed out in the bulletin each week. I do like the
spirit of community that Father Chris is promoting
but I would like to see more than just a certain
group of people be a part of it. For example, the
same people bring up the gifts each week. I
would love to be asked but its never an option. I
am a catechist but I still feel like an outsider in
many circumstances.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - - “I attend English mass and, like others, are
frustrated that the Spanish community is catered
to over others. I also do not like to see a different
priest at a mass so the regular one can do the
Spanish mass.”
- - - - - - - - - - - - “Overall, things are going well in the parish, but of
course we could always do better. I'd like to see
more Eucharistic devotion and adoration and
more devotion to Mary”

AN OPEN HOUSE
Registration for new families is now
open. If you would like to register or
see all the good things going on in our
school, please call the school at

Walk-A-Thon
Students, parents, and teachers
participated in the 14th annual Walk-a-Thon
on May 20th. Students were raising money to
purchase additional pieces of a new
reading series in grades K-8 in September.
The students had a great time walking
around the neighborhood walking for a
great cause!
Art Show
The art show will take place on May 24th.
The students worked hard to create fabulous
pieces of art. Miss Giachetta, the art
teacher, did a wonderful job of teaching
the students various art techniques and
allowing the students to use their creativity.
May Crowning
To honor Mary in the month of May,
Our Lady of Providence had a May
Crowing. The second grade class had the
job of honor guard crowners. The whole
school gathered together to celebrate this
event. They sang songs such as
“Immaculate Mary” and “Bring Flowers of
the Rarest (Queen of the May).”
Around Our Lady of Providence
The pre-kindergarten and kindergarten
classes have been learning about
caterpillars and butterflies. Each class has
several caterpillars that they have been
observing and are waiting until they change
into butterflies. The classes will gather
outside to let the butterflies go when they
have completed the change!
The first grade class is learning to tell time to
the hour and half hour. They are using the
SMART Board, poems, and songs to help
practice telling time. They are also learning
about bees. The stories they read teaches
them about all of the work the work bee
does for all of the other bees.
Cards for Japan
The news of the earthquake and its
devastating effects touched the hearts of
many including the children. Students of
Our Lady of Providence chose to respond in
a distinct way. Each morning when the
school community prays, the Japanese
people are mentioned and remembered.
In addition, some grades created
handmade cards expressing feelings of
warmth and hope. These cards will be sent
to the affected area to lift up the spirits of
those people.

In the Gospel today, Jesus says to
us “If you love me, you will keep my
commandments...Whoever loves me
will be loved by my Father and I will love him
and reveal myself to him.
The
commandments
are
not
burdensome laws, but expressions of our love
for God and each other. These Sundays before
Pentecost remind us that as disciples we never
have to feel like the whole task of living the
gospel falls on our shoulders alone. That is why
Jesus promises us the Spirit will come. We get
to know the Spirit within us by being faithful to
prayer, finding the presence of God within,
realizing his goodness and cultivating grateful
hearts.
By your gift to the Society of St. Vincent
de Paul, you help us bring the love and care of
Jesus to the poor by assisting families in need
of furniture, utility and rent bills, etc.
THANK YOU!

A decir
venir a Dios.

From Fr. Chris N.:
From Easter to Pentecost our readings also focus on the promises of Jesus to his disciples,
especially of the Holy Spirit, and on the early apostolic preaching of the Good News of
salvation. Today's readings provide answers to puzzling questions about who the Holy Spirit is, what
He does, and how we experience Him in our daily lives. Today’s first and second readings show us
how the Spirit worked in the everyday activities of Jesus’ first followers. The first reading describes
the success of Philip, the evangelist among the despised Samaritans, and explains how the
converted Samaritans received the fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit through the imposition of hands
by the apostles Peter and John. According to today's psalm, the Spirit causes believers in every age
and place to experience personally the same marvelous acts of divine liberation. The second reading
explains how the Holy Spirit makes possible God-fearing lives in the midst of opposition and
persecution.
Today’s Gospel which is a part of Jesus’ “Last supper Discourse” describes the gift he will send,
the abiding Spirit, as the Paraclete. Jesus was preparing his disciples for the day when he would no
longer be with them physically. So Jesus promised to send his Spirit upon the church. The gospel
reminds us that the Spirit causes Jesus to be truly present in the Church. The risen Jesus’ continued
presence in the Holy Spirit gives meaning and purpose to all we are and all we do in his name. The
Spirit reveals to us what God is really like by empowering us to practice mutual love and by providing
us with trustworthy guidance. This indwelling Spirit enables us to manifest our love of God by
observing the commandments of Jesus, especially the commandment of love. This commandment
includes commands to recognize Jesus in the neediest, in the poor, in the sick, in the marginalized
and even in the criminal ("I was in prison..."), and to be agents of healing and reconciliation in a
broken and divided world.
God’s Blessings Always, Fr. Chris N.
