Meeting Called to Order: 6:05pm
Review and Approve Minutes:
a. Approved/Not approved (changes or no changes) – Keith Miller made a motion to approve
the minutes, Bill Kohn second the motion.
Guest Presenters/Speakers:


Valley Access Channels (VAC) - Tom Witschen Commentator and Travis Monroe Sports Director

Broadcast on four channels on Comcast; reach of 8K, live online streaming in 201516; goal is broadcast all boys and girls hockey games in 2016/17.

Still looking for 2016/17 sponsors.

Keith to introduce VAC to Beau and the high school hockey booster clubs.
Financial Assistance Update – Jen McCurdy

Application process opens in June and will close the second week of July

Add volunteer checkbox and collect names to help with tournaments and other areas
where volunteers are requested throughout the year.

Jen to change wording on the application about the term of the assistance (remove
the 2 year language)

Additional financial assistance is available for families through other Minnesota
nonprofits

Chris Salazar is working to create a boys program to run with the girls program.
Planning is in process.
Review and discuss description for the “Coach in Chief” position to assist Tammy with
coaches onboarding

Keith, Bill and Eric will work to identify an ACE coordinator by the June meeting.

There was also discussion to host a coach’s onboarding night for each level to have
coaches enroll and learn what they need to do.
New Business:


Website listings for hockey opportunities/camps/etc.

Eric will manage the girls off season training opportunities directly.

The association will distribute hockey training/learning programs that are offered by
nonprofits only. Ex. Herb Brooks Foundation free hockey program
Gambling manager update/candidates/set-up

Cari and Gena gave an overview of their research results.

We identified a bar partner who wants to have pull tabs.

Hire a gambling manager – 3 candidates – board needs to vote at the June meeting

The association will need to name a president to oversee the gambling
manager position and process.

The gambling manager and the appointed gambling president need to attend
a two day gambler manager training course.

Boys results

Majority is positive – very consistent year-over-year

Coaches surveys were mainly all positive

Many parents liked the player development program

Limited comments/complaints regarding the try-out process
Girls results

50% response rate

Positive responses about training and coaches

Mixed goalie results

Try-out process needs tweaking

Parents are looking for more shooting and puck training

Hockey Advisory Board (HAB) updates (if determined by meeting) – Table until June

Budget responses needed from the BOD (per Jay Axelrod) - Table for special working

Need number of teams & avg players per team at each level (currently at last year’s
numbers which were too high) - Tammy/Michele – Waiting for report from Tammy to
Tammy this weekend.

Confirm no jerseys for 2016-17 (except mites). Keith/B – Correct, per Keith M.

Will we purchase socks in 2016-17? How many/cost? – Yes, need report from
Tammy

How many paid coaches / amounts?

Need any revisions in Ice Plan hours or cost.

Player development cost estimate for 2016-17.
Budget questions – Table for special working session in June.
Registrar Report:

MN Hockey approved a U15 level for 2016/17

In 2016/17 season, throughout D2, there will be a squirt B2 level.
Administrator Report:

NGIN Power Pay tool will provide additional ways to manage fees and payments through
Sports NGIN.

2016/17 registration tentatively will go live July 18.

New girls HS coach named – Lee Gillespie
Vice President Report:

Hockey Day Minnesota update (standing agenda item)

79 volunteers responded

There will be a lottery system for volunteers once we have more details about the
volunteer needs.
Open Forum:

Fundraising update (Cari and Gena) – Discussed other options that they researched last year

Parents night out event - planning is in process

Bill and Eric are going to draft an email to ask for coaching applications for the 2016/17
season

Eric will advertise for two coaches (U12A and U15A) in Let’s Play Hockey
