Promat HPI (High Performance Insulation) is the Business Unit within Promat International that focuses its activity on the
manufacture of innovative products and solutions and the design of integrated systems for thermal insulation applications
in various industrial market segments.
Promat HPI brings together two strong market leading brands, Promat and Microtherm, and by doing so, has now become
the leading global supplier of high performance thermal insulation. We not only provide arguably the widest range of thermal
insulation products on the market, and in the Aluminium industry specifically, but we are today the worldwide leading
manufacturer of Calcium Silicate and microporous insulation with well known product brands such as PROMATECT®,
PROMASIL®, MONOLUX®, DURATEC®, MICROTHERM® , PROMALIGHT®, and many more.
The Promat HPI range of high-temperature refractory and insulation solutions can offer benefits in use throughout the
multiple stages of Aluminium production and processing. Consistent thermal resistance, low thermal conductivity, high
thermal stability and structural integrity are just some of the properties which can be achieved through the solutions we offer.
Wherever possible we will offer system solutions engineered to your exact requirements which can contribute to not only
reduced energy consumption and CO2 emissions, but also to increased production efficiency and service life time, and lower
maintenance costs.
Refractory castables & insulation fire bricks
Promat HPI offers a well balanced range of high quality refractory
castables. These products consist of highly refractory raw
materials and Aluminous cements and include the brand names
PROMACRETE®, PROMACAST® and PROMAFLOW®. They range
from very light weight and medium weight insulating castables to
heavy duty refractory castables which are all available in a wide
range of formulations. The product list comprises CC, LCC, ULCC,
NCC, shotcreting and self flowing products, together with gunning
masses and ramming mixes.
Our PROMATON® range of insulating fire bricks is produced from
pure raw materials by a casting or extrusion process and fired at the
appropriate temperature depending on the grade. These high quality
products meet the requirements of the international DIN EN 1094
and ASTM C155 standards.

High temperature fibers
Promat HPI offers a wide range of high temperature alkaline earth
silicate (AES) wools under the brand PROMAGLAF®. Our exclusive
AES wools are using patented chemistries and are available in two
temperature grades, 1100°C and 1260°C These lightweight products
are characterized by their high thermal shock resistance and good
dimensional stability up to the temperature exposure limit.
In the same product range we offer alumino-silicate and high
alumina based fibers, which are branded ALSIFLEX® and ALSIFLEX
ALCEN® and have a temperature resistance up to 1260°C and
1600°C.
All our fiber products are available in a various forms and densities,
from blankets to modular systems. They are often used in moving
parts of furnaces such as doors and roofs, or as expansion joints.

Structural insulation
Our range of structural calcium silicates offer many technical
characteristics which enable their successful use in demanding
process conditions.
MONALITE® products are insulating technical ceramics which are
supplied in densities of 850 and 1000 kg/m³. The low shrinkage,
high strength and non-wetting properties define them as the industry
reference point in terms of their suitability for aluminium casting
components and systems.
DURATEC® is a high density product with exceptional thermal
and electrical insulating properties, high dielectric arc strength,
resistance to fracture and is stable up to 1000°C. Due to its
monolithic homogeneous structure DURATEC® can be readily
machined and processed to manufacture precision parts. Because
of its remarkable compressive strength, DURATEC® is often used in
impact zones of aluminium launder systems.

Lightweight insulation
Promat HPI offers a comprehensive selection of lightweight insulation
boards in a wide range of thicknesses and sizes. The particular
choice of board will depend on the performance conditions required.
PROMASIL® is our range of low density Calcium Silicate boards.
Low thermal conductivity, low thermal shrinkage and low bulk density
are key characteristics offered in a range of size formats which can
be tailored to your needs.
PROMACLAD® is a high temperature lightweight insulation board
based on exfoliated Vermiculite and inorganic binders

Microporous insulation
Our microporous products have high thermal stability, very low
shrinkage at elevated temperatures and extremely low thermal
conductivity values resulting in the most efficient insulation material
available.
These superior insulation products are ideally suited for applications
where insulation space is limited but high thermal resistance is
needed to reduce heat loss.
OUR PRODUCTS
They are perfect as back-up insulation behind refractory linings in
tapping & transport ladles, holding/melting furnaces, and in sections
of carbon bake furnaces or electrolytic reduction cells.

Carbon bake furnace
Carbon bake furnaces used in primary aluminum prepare baked
anodes for use in the aluminum electrolysis process. These furnaces
can be open or closed and consist of many chambers, flues and
pits.
Our wide product range meets the demands of the anode baking
process. Hot face refractories in the form of bricks and castables,
in combination with high temperature fibres, lightweight insulation
boards and microporous products, can provide a complete solution
in terms of long service life, low maintenance and improved energy
efficiency.

Electrolytic reduction cells
The primary aluminum production takes place in electrolytic
reduction cells where aluminium atoms are separated from oxygen
atoms in the alumina molecule. The oxygen combines with the
carbon anode and the freed aluminium atoms settle to the bottom of
the cell as molten metal where it can be siphoned off, or tapped into
tapping ladles.
Proven insulation systems are resistant to fluorised aluminium, have
high structural integrity, and very consistent thermal conductivity. Our
refractory insulation bricks combined with lightweight and structural
calcium silicate insulation can meet today’s insulation needs while at
the same time enabling improved energy efficiency.

Tapping & transport ladles
Tapping & transport ladles are used for transferring hot liquid metal
from the pot room to the casthouse at primary aluminium smelters.
Ladle life, thermal efficiency, and operator safety are our focus in this
area of the process by providing superior insulation systems.

Melting & holding furnace
Melting and holding furnaces prepare the aluminium for transfer to
the refining and casting process.
Promat HPI offers a wide range of insulation materials which can be
combined to provide complete engineered solutions to increase lifetime
and energy efficiency. These products include MICROTHERM®
or PROMALIGHT® microporous insulation, non-wetting refractories,

Aluminum transfer and refining
Promat HPI manufactures pre-fabricated launder systems and filter
boxes from our non-wetting range of structural calcium silicates.
These are combined with lightweight and microporous insulation to
optimise launder runs and process efficiency.

Billet casting
Our non-wetting structural calcium silicate components are widely
used in casting tables around the world.
We can provide pins, floats and spouts for conventional pouring,
or transition plates for the more modern billet casting process.
Continuous casting
For continuous casting of sheet, feeder tips can be precision
machined in house to your specification from our range of nonwetting structural calcium silicates.
