•Large selection of NEW, USED, and RENTAL textbooks. We also offer
additional course materials such as study guides, lab manuals and course
packs.
•We RENT select textbooks BOTH in our store and online for an up front
savings up to 80% off the new price!

Textbook Rentals

•Rentals can be done both in-store (pull off the shelf) and
online (through our website).
•Rentals done online have shipping options:

ship to store or 2) ship to home.
•Highlighting and marking in our rental books are
permitted…just don’t overdo it 
•Rentals need to be returned within deadline date given
on agreement with extensions and optional buyouts

NOT SOLD BACK.
Textbook Rentals
THINGS WE CAN DO WITH RENTAL BOOKS
THAT MAKE US UNIQUE AND CUSTOMER
FRIENDLY:
•
In-store rental books can be pulled off our shelves,
charged out at our cash registers, along with other
store merchandise, and use any store payment method
including financial aid and bookstore account funds
(valid credit or debit card is still needed to secure the
rental).
•
Rental books can be ordered online from our website
and shipped to your designated address or shipped to
our store for in-store pickup. This online ordering
process does not require the customer to find and pull
the book of our shelf and charge at our cash register.
Textbook Pre-ordering
Let us do the work for you – pre-order your books online starting
August 1! We’ll have them ready for you to pick up during move-in
and the week b/f classes begin.
•Simplify the way you buy!
•This service is FREE!
•Pre-ordering non-rental books early increases
your chance of getting lower-cost USED
books and ensures that all books in stock by
Tax-Free Weekend will be charged as tax
exempt.
Textbook Pre-ordering
•Go to the Dowdy Student Stores website at www.ecu.edu/studentstores and
select “Online Shopping”
•Enter your ECU Pirate ID (the same ID you use for ECU e-mail) and your
passphrase on the login screen.
•Go to Textbooks link and find your course textbooks based on the student’s
class schedule.
•Select which books you want to purchase, check out using Visa or
MasterCard, and select “Store Pickup” for pick up in store.
•DOWDY STUDENT STORES boxes up the in-stock books and charges
your credit card (tax-free if pre-ordered on or before tax-free weekend for
non-rental books).
•Pick up your books before classes begin!
Textbook Online Ordering
•Similar to Textbook Pre-ordering except Textbook Pre-orders are typically done on or before
tax-free weekend and for pick up in store.
•Go to the Dowdy Student Stores website at www.ecu.edu/studentstores and select “Online
Shopping” or the Online Textbook Ordering banner.
• YOU review your schedule, view the book list for each course, and decide which books you
want to buy. Online orders can be shipped out or picked up in store.
•If you choose delivery method as STORE PICK UP, the store pulls your order, charges credit
card, and holds for you to pick up. Please allow up to three business days for order
processing before coming to pick up your order.
•If you choose delivery method as UPS GROUND, the store pulls your order, charges credit
card, and ships out UPS Ground. Please allow up to three business days for ordering
processing before the order is shipped out.
•Log On By Entering your ECU Pirate ID (the same ID you use for ECU e-mail) and your
passphrase.
In Store Textbook Shopping
YOU review your schedule and
book list for each course.
Follow the shelf tags to find the
textbooks you need and purchase
at check-out. Rental books are
identified by the rental shelf tags.
Look for special offers on our
website such as a coupon for $5
off $75 or $10 off $100 to use
towards your purchase in the
store .
Digital Textbooks
We partner with CourseSmart and CengageBrain to offer textbooks in electronic
or digital formats.
E-books can save up to 50% and come in two formats: online and downloadable.
The key difference in the two is how you access the content. You can access the
online version from any computer. The downloadable version is only accessible on
one computer. Subscription timeframes for both versions can vary. Some formats
even allow you to pay for individual chapters, or get trial versions.

N.C. Sales Tax Holiday
(Tax Free Weekend)
August 2-4, 2013 is Tax Free Weekend in North Carolina!
Buy your textbooks and computers in person or online on or before tax free weekend
and PAY NO SALES TAX!
Textbook and Computer Pre-orders received by the August 4 deadline will be
processed so you will not be charged sales tax and save money!
Store hours that weekend are planned for Fri Aug 2 from 7:30 am – 5 pm, Sat Aug 3
from 9 am – 5 pm, and CLOSED Sun Aug 4.
Book Buyback
After the refund period, students can sell
their purchased textbooks back to us!
Customer is paid cash for books sold
back and it provides our store a larger
used textbook selection for the next
semester.
DO NOT SELL BACK YOUR RENTAL
BOOKS AND ALL BOOK BUYBACK
TRANSACTIONS ARE FINAL.
Payment Methods
For your convenience, we accept these forms of payment:
•Bookstore Account (For in-store purchases ONLY including textbook rentals)
If using financial aid or scholarship money, contact the Cashier Office and set up a Bookstore
Account.
If not using financial aid or scholarship money, contact the Student Stores Accounting Office
to set up a Bookstore Account.
These funds are accessed by swiping your 1 Card at Student Store cash register. Funds can roll
over into the next semester.
Unfortunately Bookstore Account cannot be used for online purchases at this time.
