It isn’t just the food that is hitting the radar of
foodies with 13 craft breweries, and more on
the way, as well as an impressive grouping of
wineries, the capital of North Carolina is quickly
fermenting itself as a major player in the world of
craft breweries and wineries. Who said Willy Wonka
was the only person that could have a chocolate
factory? Places such as Escazu Artisinal Chocolates and Videri Chocolate Factory
offer incomparable bean-to-bar artisan delicacies that can be enjoyed all year-round.

Holly Aiken, a graduate from the School of Design
at North Carolina State University, is putting the
city on the map in the fashion industry through her
designer bags made with distinctive, indestructible
materials. Raleigh, a token jewel in downtown
Raleigh, has brought back the notion of North Carolina being the mainstay of great
American denim by using local materials and artisanal methods to create an ideal pair
of jeans. Other boutiques such as Lumina Clothing, Moon and Lola and Kindred
make superior quality clothes and accessories that are trend savvy and inspiring.
Story idea: Art 2 Wear, an annual show produced by the N.C. State University College of Textiles
& Design challenges designers to imagine, create, and inspire by expressing their point of view
through wearable art.
Event Scene: Wacky Festivals
N.C. State University
The Raleigh area is all about liveliness and a
celebratory spirit–zest, a simple word with big
meaning. Greater Raleigh offers historic charm
combined with unique festivals and events that set
the area apart. Explore events such as BugFest!
the nation’s largest single-day bug event;
SparkCon, a celebration of diversity in the creative
arts community; Lazy Daze Arts & Crafts Festival,
a huge street market with local artisans; and the
Krispy Kreme Challenge, where runners race from N.C. State University to Krispy
Kreme, eat a dozen doughnuts and run back.
Challenge epitomizes the test of physical fitness and gastrointestinal fortitude. What started as
a challenge among ten friends has transformed into a nationally-publicized charity race and the
number one tradition to complete before graduating from North Carolina State University.
