H-Universal Stand Assembly Instructions Introduction Assembly for the H-Universal™ Stand (stand) includes the base, column, and optional basket. You can also install optional peripherals and accessories. Assembly is easiest with more than one person. See the H-Universal Stand User Guide for information on setting up the ultrasound system to use accessories and peripherals and for information on cleaning and disinfecting. Press down the lever on two or more wheels. 2 Connect AC cord (AC-powered peripherals only). Connect the AC power cord if you use one or more AC-powered peripherals. 1 Insert the AC power cord (J) through the top of the base: • Insert the end that has prongs. • Insert into the opening opposite the DC power supply cord (A). See Figure 2. 2 Turn the base over for access to the plate on the bottom. See Figure 3. 3 Using the magnetic screwdriver with the Phillips bit, loosen the four screws and remove the plate. 4 Bracing the power supply and Y-splitter in place, connect the AC power cord. See Figure 4. The power supply and Y-splitter are not secured to the base. 5 Make sure that the power supply and Y-splitter are in the correct position, and place the plate back onto the base. Tighten the screws. The back of the base has the SonoSite logo. The back of the column has a lever at the top. Without pinching the DC power cord (and AC power cord if present), slide the column onto the two pegs on the base. Place the cord or cords in the side grooves of the column. Insert the Allen bit into the magnetic screwdriver. Place a 12mm Allen-head screw onto the magnetic screwdriver. See Figure 5. Placing the screw onto the magnetic screwdriver prevents the screw from falling into the stand. Insert the screw into the hole at the lower front of the column, and tighten. The last few turns require additional force because of a special coating on the screws. The coating helps prevent them from coming loose. Using the magnetic screwdriver, insert and tighten the three additional 12mm Allen-head screws into the column: One at the back, and one on each side. See Figure 6. Figure 5 Place screw onto magnetic screwdriver Figure 6 Tighten screws (side shown) 4 Attach system platform. 1 2 3 4 Place the system platform onto the column: Insert the column pole into the cylinder, aligning the peg on the pole with the notch on the cylinder. Using the 5/32” tamper-resistant Allen wrench, tighten the following: • 1/2” hex bolt into the back of the cylinder • The two pre-installed set screws on the front of the cylinder Insert the four cups: Align the grooves and press into place. Insert the small end of a hook into the slot at the front of the system platform, and push it down into place. Repeat for other side. Insert nut plates. 1 2 Insert a nut plate into the groove at the lower back of the column, and slide it up the column. See Figure 8 and Figure 9. The flat, rubber side of the plate faces toward the column. Insert the second nut plate, and slide it up the column. Make sure that their spacing accommodates the two holes on the basket. Place the side of the basket that has two holes onto the column. The two nuts pass through the two holes on the basket. Using the 4mm Allen wrench, tighten an accessory screw in each of the two holes on the basket. Attach hooks to the basket. The smaller bend attaches to the basket. The large bend hangs outward. 6 Prepare isolation transformer (if multiple AC-powered peripherals). If using more than one AC-powered peripheral, prepare the isolation transformer for installation. 1 Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the four feet from the isolation transformer. 2 Place the adapter plate on the bottom of the isolation transformer with the flat side of the holes against the isolation transformer. 3 Using the Phillips screwdriver, tighten a Phillips screw in each o f the four holes on the adapter plate. Figure 10 Attach the adapter plate to the bottom of the isolation transformer 5 7 Attach mounting shelf and peripheral (printer, DVD recorder, or isolation transformer). Attach a mounting shelf for each peripheral you need to install. Attach mounting shelves in this order: Black-andwhite printer, color printer, DVD recorder, isolation transformer. See Figure 1. WARNING: 1 2 3 4 5 To avoid the risk of electrical shock or injury, install the isolation transformer if connecting more than one AC-powered peripheral. Insert nut plates. See “Insert nut plates.” on page 5. Position the two nut plates where desired. Make sure that their spacing accommodates the two holes on the side of the mounting shelf. You can attach either side of the DVD recorder mounting shelf, but make sure that the four pre-installed screws are on the bottom. Place the mounting shelf (the side with two holes) onto the column. The two nuts pass through the two holes on the mounting shelf. Using the 4mm Allen wrench, tighten an accessory screw in each of the two nuts on the mounting shelf. See Figure 11. Place the device onto the mounting shelf, and secure it by turning the four pre-installed screws on the bottom of the shelf. See Figure 12. a Align the four holes on the stand bracket with the four threaded holes under the back of the system platform. b For each hole, insert a 1/2” cap screw and tighten using the 5/32” Allen wrench. 2 Attach the pole. See Figure 13. a Position the pole on the stand bracket. (The pointed end faces up.) b Place the washer on the bolt, and then insert the bolt through the stand bracket and into the pole. Tighten using the 3/16” Allen wrench. 6 Figure 12 Tighten stand bracket 3 Figure 13 Attach the pole to the stand bracket Attach the display bracket: a Place the display face-side down on a clean, flat surface. b Align the display bracket with the holes on the back of the display. c Insert and tighten all four screws using the Phillips screwdriver. See Figure 14. 4 Attach the display: a Lower the display onto the pole, fully inserting the pole into the display bracket. If the lower set screw on the display bracket obstructs the pole, loosen the lower set screw as needed. b Using the 3/32” Allen wrench, tighten the lower set screw on the display bracket. See Figure 15. Tightening the lower set screw secures the display to the pole. Figure 14 Attach the display bracket Caution: Figure 15 Tighten the lower set screw To avoid damaging the display, verify that it is fully seated prior to tightening the set screw. To avoid damaging the display, do not adjust the angle set screw or upper set screw. Loosening causes the display to drop. Angle set screw Upper set screw 7 5 Attach power supply: a Connect the AC power cord (J) to the external display’s power supply (S). See “Cables and connectors” on page 10. b Wind up the excess AC power cord, and secure it with a Velcro strip. c Remove the backing from one side of the adhesive pad, and affix the pad to the power supply, on the side without the label. d Remove the other backing from the adhesive pad, and affix the power supply vertically to the back (or front if necessary for space) of the column as follows: • The power supply does not cover the vertical groove on the column. • The AC power cord is at the bottom. Figure 16 Attach external display’s power supply to column 9 Insert system and attach mini-dock. To insert the ultrasound system 1 2 3 Rotate system latches outward. See Figure 17. Place the ultrasound system on the system platform, ensuring that the transducer cable is positioned between the handles of the stand. Secure by rotating the system latches inward. To attach the mini-dock Attach the mini-dock if using AC-powered peripherals. 1 Place the mini-dock on the system platform. 2 Slide the mini-dock feet under the ultrasound system and firmly press the mini-dock into the I/O connector on the back of the system. The mini-dock is correctly attached when no gap is between the system and mini-dock. See Figure 17. See also “Connectivity” on page 10. 1 Attach the following cables: • AC power cord (J). If using multiple peripherals, connect this cord to the isolation transformer. • Printer cables: • Print control cable (H). Insert the ferrite end of the cable into the system. • Composite video cable (C) • DVD recorder cables: • S-video cables (B)(B). Insert the ferrite end into the system. • RS-232 cable (E), with adapter (G2) 2 Connect the DC power supply cord (A). 3 Connect the system power cord (K) to a hospital-grade electrical outlet. To configure the ultrasound system for a printer or DVD recorder, see the ultrasound system user guide. 11 Secure cables. 1 2 3 Place the system cable into the groove on either side of the column. (Printer, DVD recorder, or isolation transformer) Fold excess cable behind the device, and insert the cables into the groove on either side of the column. Place grommets in the column near the top. See Figure 18. Grommets help keep the cables in the column. Secure any loose cables with Velcro strips as needed. Figure 18 Place grommets 9 Connectivity WARNING: To avoid the risk of electrical shock or injury, install the isolation transformer if connecting more than one AC-powered peripheral. To avoid the risk of a shock hazard, do not plug the power cord of the H-Universal Stand into a multiple portable socket outlet (MPSO) or use an extension cord. Caution: To avoid damaging the system, use only peripherals recommended by SonoSite with the ultrasound system.
