St. Therese Notes
GENERAL PARISH MEETING - Thank you very much to those who were able to attend our 2nd General
Parish Meeting last Monday. There were 32 parishioners in attendance - a very good representation of the
parish community. I will publish a set of notes within the next week or so, and attach them to the Bulletin when
I have them finished. Thanks, again, to all who participated!
BAZAAR PLANNING MEETING - the initial meeting for the planning of the final Bazaar (see attached letter!)
at St. Therese will take place this Tuesday, August 6th, immediately following the 8:30 AM Mass. The meeting
will take place in the church basement.
ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT - the Annual Financial Report, a report on the Cemetery, the Budget for
2013/14, and a letter from me were distributed at the General Parish Meeting. If you were unable to come to
the meeting, additional reports, etc. are available on the table in the back of the church - help yourself!
St. Boniface Notes
PARISH COUNCIL - there will be a Parish Council meeting immediately following Mass today, August 4th, in the
Priory dining room.
FOUND - a set of keys with a blue metal, flashlight keyfob, was found in the church parking lot last Sunday. If
these belong to you, please see Fr. Jerry.
ALTAR SOCIETY - there will be a meeting of the Altar Society this Thursday, August 8th, at 7 PM in the sacristy.
All women of the parish are welcome and encouraged to attend. Initial Bazaar planning will be on the agenda!
Also, there will be a Bridal Shower for Kyra Strobel on Sunday, August 25th, at 2 PM at the Scipio Knights’ Hall.
See the flyers on the bulletin board for further inormation.
BAZAAR PRIZES - if you, or your place of business wouyld like to donate to the prizes for the Bazaar Raffle,
please try to do so by August 16th. You may notify Fr. Jerry or any of the Council members if you wish to donate
to the Bazaar’s success in this way - and thanks in advance to those of you who do!
NOODLE MAKING CLASS - We will be hosting a “Noodle Making Class” on Saturday, August 24th, beginning
at 9 AM in the Parish Hall. This is open to anyone (men & women, boys & girls!) who are interested in learning
from some of our “pros” this wonderful and useful talent. Supplies will be provided by the Altar Society, but
please sign up on the sheets at the back of church if you plan on participating so we have enough supplies on
hand!
In Leo Tolstoy’s famous short story,
“How Much Land Does a Man Need?”
a peasant makes a deal - for 1,000
rubles, he can have all the land he can
circle in one day. But if he does not
make it back to the starting point by
sunset, he will lose his money and
receive no land. Ina thrilling finish to
the story, the peasant is racing against
the setting sun. He was greedy, and
tried to cover too much area. He drops
dead from exhaustion just short of the
finish line. The peasant is buried in an
ordinary grave, only six feet long - thus
ironically answering the question
posed by the title of the story!
Let us all take care to find our true and
lasting treasure in God alone!
Have a blessed week!
Fr. Jerry
ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT - the Annual Financial Report will be attached to next weekend’s Bulletin.
