Guidelines for Environmentally
Friendly Disposal and Recycling of
Leftover Paint
CMCMUA PAINT
Disposal & Recycling Program
WHO:
The Cape May County Municipal Utilities
Authority’s (CMCMUA) Paint Program was
developed to make it easy and convenient for
you to dispose of leftover paint.
You may bring your leftover paint to the
CMCMUA Paint Disposal & Recycling
Program. See details in this brochure.
Other options are listed below:
For disposal purposes, paint is divided into
two categories: (1) Latex paints and water
based finishes and (2) Oil based paints
and finishes. Check the label on the can to
find out what type of paint you have and the
recommended disposal options.
Latex paints and other water based
finishes:
• Can be recycled/disposed through this
program; or
WHERE: The paint drop-off building is
located at the CMCMUA’s
Transfer Station, Shunpike Road,
Burleigh, in Middle Township.
Note: The Paint Program operates
only at the Transfer Station,
not at the Landfill.
WHEN:
HOW:
• May be placed in the regular trash;
however, you must eliminate any free
flowing liquid. Air dry paint or add
absorbent. Use kitty litter, old rags or
purchase "paint dry" available at retail
stores.
Empty paint cans and paint cans that have
a thin skin of dried paint (of any type) should
be placed in the regular trash.
Bring paint to the Transfer
Station and stop at the
weighmaster window.

Paints, both oil and water based, are
not accepted at CMCMUA Household
Hazardous Waste Collection Days.
Paint is accepted during normal
operating hours (see back panel
for details).
Deliveries must meet the
following conditions:
Oil base paints and finishes:
• Should not be placed in the regular trash.
Paint is accepted from Cape
May County residents,
businesses, institutions,
municipalities and
non-profit agencies.
FEE:
Paint must be in its original
container.
Containers must be closed.
Customers must know how
many cans they are delivering.
$1.25 / gallon can
$6.25 / 5 gallon bucket.
Smaller cans and aerosol cans are free.
Customers with more than 30 containers
of any size must call the CMCMUA at
