Supporting Assessment for Learning

Supporting Assessment
for Learning
The big problem with many forms of Assessment for Learning is that they take much of our most
precious resource - time. NEO 2 can be used to provide a simple, efficient and effective set of
Assessment opportunities.
The 2Know! Toolbar sits over anything displayed on an Interactive
Whiteboard and lets teachers ask ‘on the fly questions’ as they teach.
Using NEO 2s teachers can check for whole class understanding at any time in the lesson
and get instant feedback which is displayed on an easy-to-read graph. The 2Know! Toolbar
can be used in plenary sessions to inform the planning of future lessons and, because all
responses are anonymous, pupils are more willing to attempt answering questions.
“Students love doing multi-choice
quizzes, saying ‘It’s fun Miss and
we don’t have to write’”
SENCo, Hampshire Secondary School
“It gives a more ‘level playing field’ so to
speak, to those pupils who find writing a
problem. You are just assessing their
knowledge, rather than their ability to
write down what they know.
Lower ability pupils become far more
engaged in the lesson, as there is the
safety of confidentiality with their answers, because
it feels as though it is between them and the NEO 2.
Teachers may be pleasantly surprised at how much
understanding there really is particularly with the
less able or less vociferous, child.”
“They have been used, by
the various groups, in all
parts of the lesson;
starter, main and plenary to good effect.
Does the product have a
‘wow’ factor? Yes it most
certainly does…”

If you need more formalised testing then AccelTest can record
individual responses that are then collected, collated and displayed.
Using AccelTest teachers can develop a system of regular testing to keep comprehensive
and detailed records of pupils’ progress. All results can be uploaded into most school
management systems.
“AccelTest is a hidden gem, it’s a
massive programme that has allowed
me to automate and personalise
assessment for learning in my
classes. The assessments already
available are really useful, and it
allows me to get the most out of
my Interactive Whiteboard, too,
which really engages the pupils. I can’t
believe AccelTest is a free resource, it’s
made my life so much easier.”
Head of Geography in a Buckinghamshire
Secondary School
“The product is not explicitly
linked to any particular
subject or unit of work.
However a competent teacher
could easily incorporate use of
this product into almost all subjects with any year group
of any ability at any time during the school year.
No longer can SLT tell me that pupil ‘X’ didn’t appear to
have been engaged during my lesson as I now have
almost instantaneous proof that ‘Yes they were’.”
Paul Hargreaves, Teacher of History & English
NEO 2 can also be used to take Renaissance Learning’s
Accelerated Reader (AR), Accelerated Maths (AM)
and Maths Facts in a Flash (MFF) quizzes.
‘MathsFacts in a Flash offline’ (FREE) is pre-loaded onto NEO 2
and lets pupils develop their mental maths skills. Pupils can
use MFF offline at any time on a NEO 2. Results can later be
uploaded onto the Renaissance Place site.
“MathsFacts in a Flash (offline) has proved invaluable in increasing the speed of
number recall. The lower ability pupils often struggle with this and my group have
improved at times tables, which has made a difference overall and given them more
self confidence.”
Lesley Fisher, Deputy Head Teacher
Godmanchester Primary School
“We use a variety of online resources to encourage maths practice, but many
pupils prefer the simplicity of MathsFacts in a Flash and find it very addictive.”
Alex Bell, Deputy Head Teacher, Sir William Burrough Primary School
A range of NEO 2 Classroom bundles
