Walking helps children to get the 60
minutes of moderate physical activity
they need each day to be healthy and
strong. Well done to the 306 children
who participated in Walk to School Day
last Friday. That was an increase of 174
students who wouldn’t normally walk to
school. Thank you for supporting this
Vic Health initiative which encourages
healthy habits and fitness. All children
who walked to school received a Vic
Health sticker.

Principal’s Report continued
Lapathon
What a wonderful way to emphasise the importance of being
active for students and reinforcing the living a healthy lifestyle
message. By holding the Parent Club Lapathon and Walk to
School Day in October we are working together to encourage
our children to be healthy, and at the same time raise funds
for Warragul North Primary School.
Many thanks to the children and families who supported
both these events. It certainly was great to see so many people
coming along to cheer on their children as they ran their
laps for the Lapathon. A huge thank you to our Parent Club
volunteers, especially Bek Parker, who have spent many hours
collating all the Lapathon forms.
The early return of your Lapathon forms and donations would
be greatly appreciated. Don’t forget if you would like to be in
the draw to win a great prize your forms and donations must
be returned by Monday 23rd November. The prize draw will
take place at assembly on Friday 4th December.

Student achievement involves the combination of a number
of elements in the learning process such as setting goals,
understanding the learning intent, thinking, developing skills,
feedback, reflecting and exerting effort to achieve. Each
student needs to understand that they are the learner and
that they are responsible for their own learning.
Teachers can support students to continuously refine and
improve their learning and understanding. Teachers can
assist students to set learning goals and understand learning
intentions. Teachers can then use evidence (what the
student can do, say, make or write) to provide feedback and
assist students to evaluate their progress, that is their
achievements. Teachers can support students to reflect on
their learning and the impact of effort on achievement.
Learning requires students to engage in a thinking process
and exert effort to achieve. Students striving for excellence
can achieve to their potential. Achievement requires effort by
learners as they engage in the learning process.
In a ‘nutshell’ Achievement means accomplishing
your learning goals using effort and skill.
Aussie of the Month
The ‘Aussie of the Month’
program is a great way to
recognise school students’
achievement - without them
having to win a race or sit an
exam. It is designed to encourage
children to be proud of themselves,
their school and to understand
the responsibilities and rewards of
community participation. During
2015 staff at Warragul North Primary School have
agreed to regularly bestow this honour on a student.
‘Aussie of the Month’ for October is:
Keinan (2VM)
Keinan is a very deserving winner of this month’s ‘Aussie
of the Month’.
He is a responsible, caring student who demonstrates
respect and friendship to all. He follows the school rules
and is a reliable class member.
Keinan is a great role model, and represents the ethos
of Warragul North Primary School. He shows great
enthusiasm in all aspects of his learning and readily
accepts challenges.
Keinan demonstrates remarkable resilience for someone
so young, quickly bouncing back from any setback, be it
work or health related or when interacting with others.
His ability to smile through adversity is testament to his
strength of character.
Congratulations Keinan on being awarded ‘Aussie of the
Month’.

Deputy Mayor, Mr Joe Gauci who sang along with the children
whilst watching the live feed from the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

School Council Report
Hi, my name is Peter Mudie,
and this is my fourth year
on School Council. I am on
the council as a community
representative as my children
have completed primary
school.
I have just returned from
a trip to China where my
daughter, Emmerson (15) and I spent some time
volunteering in an orphanage for children that have
been abandoned and have disabilities.
Emmerson shared with me before we left that she
hoped the trip would help remind her to not take
things for granted that we have in Australia.
As I reflected on recent times serving on school
council there have been many challenges to things
we value and that we should not take for granted.
Things like the number of classrooms needed to
ensure our children have the best opportunity of
learning and providing pastoral support for our
children through Chaplaincy.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve on school
council for it gives parents and members of the
community the opportunity to work with the school
staff towards protecting the things we value and help
lay a foundation for our children that gives them the
best opportunity for life.
Mr Peter Mudie
School Councillor

Year Five Visit To
Warragul Regional College
As part of our transition program the Year Five children were invited to visit the Warragul Regional College on Friday
23rd October to experience a secondary college environment. The students were taken through learning based projects
lead by current Year Seven students.
Student Refelctions...
On the 23rd October, Year Five students went to the
Warragul Regional College for a sneak peak of what
secondary school was like. Our Year Seven mentors were
a great help showing us around the campus.
Our project was based around endangered animals and
habitats for them. The resources we could use were
modelling clay, pipe cleaners, large soft pipe cleaners,
straws, felt and much, much more. Several groups made
most of their scene with modelling clay, a few also made
some posters. There were two winning groups, their
prize was a Warragul Regional College torch.
By Libby (5BA)
Visiting Warragul Regional College was an amazing
experience, just to be within that school community was
a privilege. We all had a ball with the fellow Year Sevens
and look forward to our years at high school, even though
some of us are going to a different high school.
After all the commotion of getting to the hall and
organising groups, the Year Seven helpers took us on a
tour to see all the facilities. The first place we went to was
the green room. It sounded very mysterious to us and
we couldn’t wait to see it. The green room was lined with
fake grass. On the sidelines there were lush bushes and
wooden seats.
By Sienna (5BA)
On the 23rd October all of the Year Fives went to the
Warragul Regional College. We were separated into
groups of five or six. In my group there was Grace,
Amina, Rhys, Tom and me.
Our task was to make a habitat for an endangered
animal. Our group chose the South China Tiger. We
had different types of materials to create the habitat.
After we made the habitat, people were given one red
sticker to vote for other groups. In the end we were up
against the Blob Fish, but our group won the best habitat
out of all of the other groups.

ARE YOU MOVING?
Parents are reminded that
Warragul North Primary

HOURS CARE
Recently our OSHC service had an
interesting visitor – A PYTHON!
Ghani’s Mum, Aimee, brought their
pet Murray-Darling carpet python,
Irulan, in and gave a very interesting
talk on pythons, describing their
sleeping and eating habits. The
children were able to hold the snake if
they felt comfortable about doing so.
Most children had a turn at handling
Irulan and had their photo taken.
Parents who arrived to collect their
children during the visit were able to
take photos of their children holding
the snake. Thank you to Aimee for
giving the children a great experience.
Staff at OSHC attended a network
meeting on 28th October. A guest
speaker from FKA was very helpful
with information for childcare services
on the availability of resources from
FKA to help with cultural integration
and inclusion in OSHC programs.
OSHC is available on a permanent
or casual basis. Enrolment forms are
available from the school office or from
OSHC. A waiting list is held if a session
is already fully booked. It is important
that the school office or OSHC is
notified if your child is not going to
attend a session they have been booked
in for as that place can then be used
for a casual booking. Once you have a
permanent booking you will be billed
for that placement whether your child
attends or not.

cancellations are:
