Annual Meeting Sets us on a Healthy Footing for 2017
T
he annual meeting of Immanuel Parish on
Sunday, January 22 was conducted smoothly
and efficiently by the Rev. Steve Fuller. Ten members
of the congregation were present. After the minutes
of last year’s meeting were accepted as written, we
reviewed the proposed budget. The 2016 Annual
Report included a 2016 financial report and a
proposed Operating Budget
for 2017. The Operating
Budget was already approved
by the Vestry for
presentation at the annual
meeting. We had a surplus
this year due to the mild
winter of 2015-16 because
fuel costs were low. While we still depend too much
on distributions from our Wilks Fund endowment,
Stone Church Arts and Immanuel Retreat Center are
contributing 50% more in rent this year.
We now have a five-member Vestry! After some
discussion, Carol Jones and Bonnie DePino were
nominated and then elected as new members of the
Vestry. Continuing members are Gloria Mansfield,
Barbara Plumley, and Diana Leitgeb. At the brief
Vestry meeting following the annual meeting, officers
were elected: Gloria Mansfield, Senior Warden;
Barbara Plumley, Junior Warden and Clerk; and
Charles Manfield, Treasurer Pro-Tem.
Carol Jones, Bonnie DePino and Linda Jones were
elected as our delegates to the 2017 Diocesan
Convention.
The various reports were
discussed. The Community Closet
is very active and the balance in
the fund is around $10,000. It was
reiterated that all proceeds support
community organizations. Two
new musicians for our Sunday
serviced, Mary Cay Brass and Amy
Caan have been added to our roster, joining Judi
Byron who continues this year. We are lucky to
continue to have the Rev. Steve Fuller (bi-vocational)
and the Rev. Bruce MacDuffie (retired) serving as our
priests and the Rev. Charles Mansfield as our Deacon.
The meeting went well and this sets all our
ministries on a healthy footing for 2017! If you did
not attend the meeting, please look for your copy of
the 2016 Annual Report at the back of the church.

Celtic Knotwork Course, sessions start Feb 15
H
ave you ever wondered how to create the interlacing
artwork crafted by early Celtic monks in such amazing
books as the Book of Kells or the Lindesfarne Gospels? Celtic
knotwork patterns depicting birds and animals, trees and other
plants, people and even the sun and the moon, as well as
abstract patterns, were developed in pre-Christian times. While
knotwork may seem challenging to create, there are simpler
ways to approach these beautiful detailed drawings. The steps
will be broken down for you and there will be plenty of
worksheets. For more info or to register call 802-460-0110 or

and Heroes in Song
7:30 pm, Friday, Feb 3, Chapel
Since 2005, tenor James Ruff
has focused his energies
on researching and performing
both the Early Scottish Gaelic
Song and the Early Gaelic Wire
Harp repertoires. He has studied
Scottish Gaelic Song with award
winning Scottish singers Kenna
Campbell, Mary Ann Kennedy and
Christine Primrose, and early harp techniques with noted
Irish harpist Siobhan Armstrong. He has spent two
summers studying at the Scoil na gClairseach Harp
School in Kilkenny, Scotland. He enjoyed a month
researching & studying early Gaelic Song in Edinburgh
and Glasgow in 2012, and competed in the 2009 Royal
National Mòd in Oban, Scotland, placing in competitions
of Gaelic Song.
Intro to Celtic Knotwork I
10 am – 3 pm, Saturday, Feb 11, Currier Hall
Celtic knotwork patterns depicting
birds and animals, trees and other
plants, people and even the sun
and the moon, as well as abstract
patterns, were developed in preChristian times, and incorporated
into illuminated manuscripts such
as the Book of Kells and the
Lindesfarne Gospels by early
Celtic monks. Sadelle Wiltshire has been developing her
techniques for the basic knotwork drawing that will be
taught in this workshop.
Celtic Knotwork Course
Five sessions beginning Wed., Feb 15 at 7:30 pm
This Wednesday evening course, over 5 weeks, will go
deeper into the complexities and myriad techniques of
creating and drawing Celtic knotwork. As with the daylong class, the steps will be broken down for you and there
will be plenty of worksheets to try your hand with. We will
learn and practice more complex interlacing, triquetra
designs, working with borders and frames, adding
knotwork into different shapes, adding "zoomorphic"
figures (animal images) and creating your own "carpet
pages".
Snowflake Mandalas
10 am – 12:30 pm, Saturday, Feb 25, Currier Hall
In this fun and constantly
surprising workshop, you will
learn to make Mandala forms
and "strings" for Zentangle
using cut paper snowflakes for
an initial outline. We will then
learn to change the template
design you create from the
initial tracing into an infinite
number of unique designs by
experimenting with breaking and adding new lines. Add
some patterns and fills, and voila! You have an amazing
new mandala creation!
