What a fantastic night!
It was terrific as always to see our school community together at this festive
event. Our new stage served its purpose perfectly with our new sound system
making sure we could all hear. Our students were a hit!
I would like to make a special thankyou to Santa for making an appearance at
our special night.

Getting Ready for 2015
On Monday, 1st December we held our first whole school transition day where all of our
students spent some time with their teachers and classmates for the afternoon. A

clarify what next year will look like, as well as set some shared expectations with their
teacher and classmates. We had a number of students who will be joining us at Koo Wee Rup PS next
year come along also. I would like to welcome our new students and parents to our wonderful school.

Year 5 Leadership Day
We arrived at the Lang Lang hall and walked inside to an unusual sight, a motorbike sitting in the hall. Also in the
hall were students and teachers from Lang Lang and Bayles Primary Schools.
We were introduced to ‘The Rev’ (motorcycle joke) and Lauren who were to be our facilitators for the day. The
Rev shared his views on leadership and encouraged others to share theirs. He also shared some wise words
about life. These included the following points:





Ignore the inner negative voice.
Being positive will help you win friends.
Life is ten percent what happens to you and ninety percent how you
react to it.
You only have to be one step ahead to be a leader.
Blind leadership is not effective, leaders must have direction.
The Rev told us that the most important leadership qualities were confidence,
modesty, organisation and leading by example. He also spoke about the
importance of making the right choices in life especially in relation to those we choose to associate with as these
people will either raise us up or drag us down.
We completed some activities that made us think hard about how to operate as a team as well learning to
understand that sometimes as a leader we have to step back and follow someone else.
Round Robin Sports day at Bunyip
Congratulations to all participants, from Koo Wee Rup Primary School, on their behaviour and general good
sportsmanship at the sports day.
The students in Years 5 & 6 played cricket, Newcomb, Netball and Teeball. Each team got to play 4 matches in
wonderful conditions at the Bunyip Recreation Reserve.
Participating schools – Lang Lang, Tooradin, Cardinia, Bayles, Bunyip and us – all arrived by 10am ready for the 10
-15am start. The grounds were all marked out and equipment ready, thanks to the staff of Bunyip Primary
School.
The cricket was based on the Milo 8’s version of the game and our team excelled with the plastic bats. The boys
rotated through the games as we had 3 extra players.
In the first game, against Bunyip, the boys reached a score of 233 for the loss of one wicket, off 8 overs! They
knew they were in for a good day. The opposition made 38 and lost 17 wickets. Our boys were supportive toward
Bunyip and displayed good sportsmanship.
Next we played Tooradin and they reached 65 and we made 96 runs. Against Bayles we made 113 and they made
85. In the final game Cardinia were down a player, so our captain played with them and we reached a total of
105 and Cardinia made 88 runs.
The Newcomb team were short a player on the day and wish to thank Matthew Wi for giving up cricket to help
out their team. They worked together well, which was evident through their result of 4 convincing wins. The
whole team played well and some of the best players put away some amazing shots through the day.
In Teeball the first game was against Tooradin and we had a 7 run win, 21 to 14. Against Bayles the scores were
27 to 34 our way. We doubled Lang Lang’s score, 16 to 32 and the last match was the closest for the day with our
team winning by 2 over Cardinia.
On the netball court we were not as successful with results but the resilience
and support of team mates was outstanding. The girls played hard and
enthusiastically against some very strong opposition. The last match was lost by
just one goal, a testimony to their determination to keep trying. Well done girls.
Every game was played in a competitive but fair manner and staff and parents
from other schools complimented the students on their conduct over the whole
day.
