RULES OF THE COMPETITION
GAVRIIL MUSICESCU
Youth International Choral Music Contest Festival
Iasi, July 1 - 9 2017, Romania
I. Confirmation of registration
The registration of the choirs willing to participate in GAVRIIL MUSICESCU Youth
International Choral Music Contest Festival – should be confirmed by May 1st 2017, the
latest, by e-mail at [email protected]

II. Registration
The confirmation of registration should be accompanied by the REGISTRATION Form
(Annex 1), a high quality photograph (the organiser assumes the right to use it in the
advertising materials for the Festival – for the competition purposes or to promote the event)
and at least an audio recording.

III. Sections
GAVRIIL MUSICESCU Youth International Choral Music Contest Festival is open to all the
non-professional choirs which include singers younger than 40, except the conductor,
following the criteria below:
1. Choirs from Music Highschools and Seminars
2. Choirs from Music Universities and Theological Faculties
3. Choirs of young amateurs ( young people who do not attend music schools).

IV. Competition repertoire
A) The choir ensembles from Sections 1, 2 and 3 will present 4 pieces:
-
A piece to be chosen from the list of compulsory compositions by Gavriil Musicescu,
accompanied on piano or a capella (Addendum 2).
-
A religious piece from the national repertoire of each choir or ensemble.
-
An adaptation of a folklore piece from the region of each choir or ensemble.
-
A piece from the universal repertoire.
The total time for the performing of the 4 pieces is maximum 15 minutes (excluding the
time for applause, entering and leaving the stage).
B) For Section 4, the ensembles for psaltic music will perform 3 pieces in the
competition, out of which one is compulsory (Annex 3).
The total time for the performing of the 3 pieces is maximum 15 minutes (excluding
the time for applause, entering and leaving the stage).
C) The children choirs registered for the 5th Section - developed under the National
Program Cantus Mundi coordinated by the National Camera Choir Madrigal will
perform 3 chosen pieces from the national or universal repertoire, according to their
age but considering to have song from 3 different music period style.
The total performing timing is maximum 10 minutes (excluding the time given to
applauses, entering and leaving the stage)

There will be awarded prizes for the best three ensembles for each section: Ist Prize,
IInd Prize and IIIrd Prize.
Gavriil Musicescu Trophy will be awarded by the jury for the best choir ensemble in
the Festival.
There will also be given special prizes from the jury or the sponsors (Best Conductor,
Best Stage Effect, so on).
All the choir ensembles which take part in GAVRIIL MUSICESCU Youth International
Choral Music Contest Festival will receive Diplomas of Participation.
VI. Jury of the Competition
The jury of the competition will include 5 members (for Sections 1,2 and 3),
specialists and conductors of national and international renown.
The members of the jury will present the technical and artistical impressions for each
choir participating in GAVRIIL MUSICESCU Youth International Choral Music Contest
Festival.
For Section 4, the jury will include 4 members, specialists in psaltic music.
For Section 5 the jury will include 4 members, conductors and teachers experienced in
choir music for children.
VII.

Other information
In case the number of registered choirs for each Section goes well beyond the estimation
of the organizers, there will be made a selection based on the information from Annex 1
and other relevant information required from the choir ensembles.

The detailed programme GAVRIIL MUSICESCU Youth International Choral Music Contest
Festival will be sent to all the participating choir ensembles, 30 days before the festival
days.

The choirs registered in the competition Sections have to send by June 1st 2017 the
title of the pieces presented in the competition, as well as the composers and the
scanned scores at [email protected].

The organizers and the manager of the festival do not take any legal responsibility related
to any aspect of the participation of the choir ensemble in the festival.

The competition order will be tossed for sides by the conductors of the choirs registered
for the competitions (30 minutes before the contest beginning).

The festival organisers do not take any responsibility in case a choir performs one or
more pieces, without having the right.

The participants in the competition, by their representatives, might be required to accept
and be present for press conferences, interviews, round table conferences.

During the Festival days, the choir ensembles will perform several recitals, of
approximately 30 minutes, in different venues, as established by the organiser, with the
agreed repertoire.

The children choirs registered in Section 5 will take part in the extraordinary concert
organized in partnership with Madrigal - National Chamber Choir and Cantus Mundi –
Project. Each choir will present in the concert 2-3 pieces from their own repertoire (could
be the same pieces from the competition, in a total of 10 minutes, accompanied or not, but
without any negatives). Also, each children choire will prepare 2 imposed pieces to be
interpreted at the end of the concert of the reunited choirs (Annex 4), plus Cantus Mundi
Hymn.

The jury will reach final and incontestable decisions.

The jury members and the conductors participating in the competition will be present in a
series of workshops on different subjects from the fields of choir conducting, folklore,
religious music, music history, music style issues, so on, according to the schedule set up
by the organizer and presented later, until May 1st 2016. Some of the participants
mentioned above will be university lectors.

The registration is tax free.

Accomodation and meals will be free offered by the organizers.

Each delegation can include maximum 30 people (including the driver or other
companions).

In order to participate, each choir ensemble should agree on the following:
 the shows organised during the festival might be broadcasted live or
recorded for a later broadcast on radio and television and the choir
ensembles will not be paid. All the broadcasting rights for any show shot
during the festival belong to the festival organisers and they will use them
whenever they consider appropriate;
 any show presented by a choir ensemble during the Festival can be
recorded without any payment or other demands and the Festival owns the
copyright on any recording and has the right to use it later as considered
appropriate.

The rules and the schedule can be changed in special cases by the manager of the
Festival.

The registration and participation in the Festival imply accepting all the competition
rules.

