Explore a Monastic Settlement at Inishmurray Island
Inishmurray Island Tours, Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo
Get set for some island romance and mystery when you travel out to Inishmurray Island, 7km off
the coast of Sligo. Captain Keith Clarke will take you over by boat, and you’ll begin by exploring
beehive huts, where the monks of this remarkable sixth-century Christian site once lived. The
stones of the large altar known as the Clocha Breacha – the ‘Cursing’ or ‘Speckled Stones’ – are
said to have dark powers. As you move among the deserted landscape, can you feel any energy
from them? The last of Inishmurray’s islanders moved to the mainland in 1957, and today the
place is a wildlife sanctuary for both breeding and wintering birds. Depending on the time of
year, you may find it alive with Arctic tern, shag, gulls and eider duck, as well as pairs of black
guillemot, barnacle geese, storm petrels, fulmars and more. It’s a birdwatcher’s paradise.

Catch and Eat your Wild Atlantic Dinner
Eat and Drink the Poetry of W.B. Yeats
Sligo Boat Charters, Rosses Point, Co. Sligo
Yeats Experience, Tobernalt, Holy Well Lane, Aughamore, Near Carraroe, Co. Sligo
Catching your own dinner and having it cooked for you is an amazing way to appreciate the
wealth of this wild ocean off the West of Ireland.
It’s no secret that Irish poet William Butler Yeats was inspired by the landscape of County Sligo.
This is where he spent his childhood holidays, and set such famous poems as The Lake Isle of
Innisfree. During this experience, you’ll learn all about that poetry over an intimate lunch or
dinner in Broc House, surrounded by art and architecture. Enjoy the view from the terrace,
taking in several locations featured in Yeats’s work. Tuck into sandwiches, seasonal soup, salads
from the garden and Irish tea brack, while you listen to Damien Brennan tell the inspiring story of
a visionary writer and his beloved Land of Heart’s Desire. This is about landscape, and bringing
a Nobel Prizewinner’s poetry to life. You’ll leave relaxed, inspired – and probably heading to the
nearest bookshop to buy a book of poems. Oh, and you’ll eat amazingly well, too!
Your experience begins with a welcome on board at Rosses Point, before heading out to sea to
track and catch your dinner in Sligo Bay. What you catch (flatties or mackerel) depends on the
type of trip, but expect to be taken to local fishing grounds to spot your meal and, after the fun
of learning lots of fishing tricks and tips, you’re guaranteed to bring back the freshest food ever!
Back on shore, you can have your fish cooked for you at either Harry’s or Austie’s restaurant in
Rosses Point - you’ll eat like a king…
