Course Description
This class provides a complete understanding of the technological and creative aspects of
video game design in an easy-to-follow format. Students will have the opportunity to learn all
aspects of the creative, business, and technological components required to launch a new
video game. Students will develop mastery in hard skills of art, science, and technology as
they relate to computer programming. Students will also be introduced to basic hardware and
software troubleshooting.

Identify the different genres of gaming

Students are expected to keep track of their progress through Canvas. The Canvas gradebook
will be the official grading program. After the course concludes, final semester grades will be
transferred from Canvas into the student’s local grade-reporting system, such as Home Access,
Infinite Campus, or Synergy.
Discussion Boards
These will be used throughout the term. All postings and replies need to be professional (school
appropriate and respectful).
Late Work Policy
Assignments not completed by the due date will show as a zero in the gradebook until
completed. There will be a 50% penalty for late work. For example, once the assignment #1 due
date has passed that work will not be accepted for points after the assignment #3 due date.
Academic Honesty
Cheating will not be tolerated. The district honesty policy will be followed.

Hardware and Software
Students should have access to general word processing software such as Microsoft Word or
Google Docs and the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Websites and Technical Tools
The Canvas learning management will be used to deliver the online course. Students need
consistent and reliable access to the Internet, preferably using the Chrome or Safari web
browser. Students without reliable Internet access should contact their counselor in order to
create a plan to access the course on a daily basis.

Course General
Assignment Submission
You will always be given direct instruction on where to submit your assignments. If you prefer to
submit an assignment prior to the due date, you may. Please be cognizant of assignment due
dates and submit your work on time.
Calendar
Session one classes will run between August 21-December 18. Session two classes will run
between January 19-May 16.
Communication
Students are expected to communicate with their instructor using the Canvas inbox messaging
system. Teachers will respond to all student inquiries within 24 hours between Monday-Friday.
Reasonable Accommodations
All students placed in an eLo course with an IEP or 504 Plan are supported. Students should
contact their case manager or counselor with additional questions or concerns.
Staffing
eLo teachers are Illinois certified and employed by one of the consortium districts: District #204,
#203, or #200. Each teacher is certified in the content area they instruct. Teachers have
completed a professional development course about the Canvas Learning Management System
along with a Fundamentals of Online Instruction course offered through the PLS 3rd Learning

Student Code of Conduct
Students should submit their own original work with proper author acknowledgement as needed.
All academic dishonesty and disciplinary issues will be handled by a student’s local school.
Students are expected to adhere to the acceptable use policies created by their local school.

Technical Support
eLo offers technical support Monday-Friday between 8-4:30 pm. You may contact the technical
support specialist using the live chat service found on the eLo website or at 630.375.3772. If
you experience technical difficulties, please notify either the technical support specialist or your
instructor immediately, especially if it prohibits you from completing coursework on time.
Time Management
Online courses require a considerable amount of time. You are expected to follow the pacing
guidelines outlined by your teacher. You are not required to log-in to the course at a set interval,
time, or day. However, to be successful in the course, you should plan to spend near five hours
per week actively engaged in the class. The amount of time you actually spend on coursework
will vary depending on your skill level and knowledge in a variety of areas. While on vacation or
other activities, you are still expected to adhere to your teacher's pacing guidelines. You may
not complete courses earlier than the term end date unless approved by your instructor.
Withdrawals and Drops
Students interested in withdrawing from the course should contact their counselor. Students
should pay careful attention to their school’s withdraw dates.
