Bremen Town Musicians
A German Folk tale
(March 27th-29th, please see specific dates for when each class performs)
Once there lived a donkey, a dog, a cat, and a rooster who had grown too old to be
useful to their masters. Because their masters want to get rid of them, they ran away.
They meet on the road and decide to go to Bremen Town to be street musicians.
Unfortunately, this rag tag group of animals are terrible musicians. Soon, they
discover a cozy cabin in the woods occupied by robbers! The four friends
manage to scare the robbers away by making the loudest music they can. Will the
Bremen Town musicians be able to live in the cabin forever, or will they continue on
their quest for Bremen Town? Please come to our performances to find out!

2 Attention 5th Grade Students and Parent/Guardian!
This year we will be hosting a 5th Grade Carnival instead of the traditional
5th Grade Recognition event. This event is hosted by our 5th grade parents.
Here are the details:
Date: Wednesday, June 7, 2017
(Same date as announced in district calendar for 5th Grade Recognition)
Time: 2:00-3:15 PM
What: Three Fun ZONES for 5th Graders to Enjoy
1. Carnival Themed Snacks and Drinks
2. Photo Booth and Yearbook Signing or Memory Page Signing if you did not purchase a
Yearbook
3. Activities: Sports, Games, Hang out area and More
Where: Back Soccer Field or Gym in case of rain
Who: 5th Graders, Teachers/Staff, and Families
Parents/Families can come any-time between 2:00-3:15 PM to take photos and spend time with
your student in this informal setting. You may also take your student home with you when you
are done socializing (just let the teacher know). However, please note that parents do not have to
come to this event. Totally optional!
Why the change?
 5th graders from the past have told us that they really enjoy the
socializing time that happened after the recognition event and wish it
was longer.
 Potential construction at Wilshire Park may impact spaces to host the
event as it has been done and parking may be impacted as well.
 It has been difficult to recruit a parent/s to chair this event and the new
format will make it much easier to ask parents for their help.
 Some parents have let us know that it is difficult to take off work at
that time during the day.
Volunteer Appreciation Update
Earlier in the school year we discussed our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event. At that time,
due to the possibility of construction and how this would impact space within the building, we
made the decision to thank our volunteers through personal notes instead of holding an event this
year.
Mrs. Page, the Staff and I all want you to know that our hearts are full with all your hard work,
and kind deeds done for us and our Wilshire Park students this past year! Thank you from the
bottom of our hearts.
Jolene Hodson, Wilshire Park Volunteer Coordinator

3 Kindergarten Registration for the 2017-18 School Year
Do you have a child who will be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2017 and live in the St.
Anthony-New Brighton School District? Please e-mail [email protected] or call the
school office at 612.706.1200 to be added to our kindergarten mailing list for the 2017-18 school
year. Please contact us even if you think we already know about your child.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found area is overflowing with hooded sweatshirts, jackets, mittens, hats,
lunchboxes and assorted other items. Please stop into the building to look through the Lost and
Found for items your child may have lost. The Lost and Found is just inside the parking lot
doors (Door #3). This door is often open evenings if there are activities in the building.
Information From the Nurse’s Office:
Influenza season has arrived. If your child has symptoms of influenza
(fever greater than 101 degrees, sore throat, cough, congestion, body
aches), please indicate these symptoms when you leave a message on the
attendance line (612-706-1204). We are tracking influenza and influenzalike illness as is required by the Minnesota Health Department. Thank you
for your help to track illness in our school.
Please dress your students daily for spring weather. Boots are a must as the
playground thaws and is muddy. If your child borrows clothing from the
nurse office, please launder them and return them as soon as possible. It would be helpful if you
are able to send extra clothing in your student’s backpack in case clothing gets wet or muddy.
Spring allergy season is upon us. Now is the time to check with your child’s doctor about
restarting their allergy medication if they suffer from spring allergies. The trees will soon be
budding, the grass will be growing, and the flowers blooming! It is best to start the allergy
medication before symptoms become too severe.
For day to day concerns, please contact the Health Office at 612-706-1205 or email Cameron
Winter at [email protected] and/or Sandra Rabine at [email protected]
If you need to talk with the District Nurse, you can reach Lori Watzl-King RN, LSN at 612-7061263 or 612-706-1077 or email at [email protected].


Several Wilshire Park parents or relatives work for Wells Fargo
and donate to school through a payroll deduction plan which is matched
by their employer. Several checks recently arrived which will be used to
supplement our supply budget to provide the tools our students need for
competency in STEM, literacy, math, science and the arts. We recently
became aware that you may direct donations through employee sponsored
United Way campaigns to Wilshire Park Elementary, WPPA or SANBE. We
appreciate your support.
4  Thank you to the following parents, staff and community members for your help with
making our first Wellness Week a success!
Bethany Snyder, Todd McDonough, Food Service Staff, Deb Anderson (& Eli), Michele
Bentz, Sara McGrath, Kacy Rainaldo, Amy Wyland, Bob Becker (Wellness Sign) and
Wellness Committee Members.
 Thank you to parent, Munce White, for her donation of a refrigerator to the Wilshire
Park Staff Lounge. Staff very much appreciate cold lunches and being able to chill
classroom treats!
Bus Company Information
Metropolitan Transportation Network is the bus company contracted for our student
transportation. Occasionally delays in student pickup or drop-off may occur for
a variety of reasons. Our office staff is always available to assist during office
hours but please note our office does close at 4:00 p.m. Please make your first
call to the bus company at: 763.571.1541 and ask for “Dispatch”. You may
wish to put this phone number in your phone’s contact list. This transportation
phone number is also listed on the home page of the Wilshire Park website.
Buses at Capacity – No Bus Passes This Year
All of our buses are at capacity. Students will only be able to ride their assigned bus. We will not
be able to allow students to ride home on the bus with a friend as we have in past years. If you
have arranged an after-school play date with a friend, a parent will need to transport. Please
make sure your child’s teacher and the school office has written or email permission if your child
will be riding home with another parent.
Bus Stops
Please be aware that if a bus stop goes unused for a period of 10 days, that stop may be
inactivated by our bus company, Metropolitan Transportation Network. Please contact our
Transportation Director, Todd Niklaus at [email protected] or 612.706.1117 if you
need assistance with your child’s bus route.
After School Change in Plans
We understand that after-school plans for your child may change occasionally. Please send a
note with your child or email the teacher, when possible. On those occasions when plans change
during the school day, please call the school office as early as you can. Many times, the office
staff is inundated with calls and visitors at the end of the day. Some grades have late-afternoon
recess which makes it challenging to deliver a message to your child.
Legal Papers
In order to assure compliance with court orders on who can visit with your child while at school
and who your child can be released to, we need to have a copy of your legal custody papers on
file in the office. Please be assured, we will not release your child to anyone not listed on your
child’s Infinite Campus parent portal without your consent.
If your child has a legal name change, please bring a copy of the court document to the office so
that we can change your child’s name in our files.
Money Sent to School with Your Child
When sending money to school with your child, please mark the check or envelope clearly with
your child’s first and LAST name, teacher’s name and why the money is being sent (lunch
money, field trip, book order, etc.). If paying on your child’s lunch account, please include your
child’s Lunch PIN number.
5 If Your Child is Absent or will be arriving late. . .
Please call the attendance line at 612.706.1204. Please call before 9:05 a.m. You may leave a
message 24 hours a day.
Box Tops for Education Update: Thanks to all the families who have
contributed to the Box Tops for Education drive. Proceeds are used to purchase
additional curriculum, books, and art, office and general supplies. Every cent makes
a difference! Box Tops are found on many General Mills products as well as
Ziploc®, Hefty®, Annie’s®, Kleenex® and Scott® products. Each classroom is now
collecting the BoxTops so be sure to send them in with your child.
Box Tops Update: Thanks to those of you who have been turning in the Box Tops every month!
To date, we've raised around $1,500 this school year. The following incentives will be available
each month starting in March:
 The classroom with the highest number of BoxTops for the month will get a traveling
trophy for display in their classroom along with their picture included in the morning
announcements.
 The grade with the highest number of Box Tops will receive a popcorn party in the
beginning of the following month.
 The teacher whose classroom has the highest number of Box Tops will receive a $25 gift
card to Target.
 For a different approach, students received a small plastic bag to hang on their
refrigerators at home rather than gluing BoxTops onto the collection sheets. Please
encourage kids to re-use the bags each month.
Program Changes:


Additional Box Tops drop-off boxes are located in Cub Foods and Fitness Crossroad.
Box Tops will be collected in each classroom rather than in the container near door #3.
Weather Announcements:
School cancellations are typically determined by 6:00 a.m. and
announced through BlackBoard Connect - our parent notification system,
as well as on the district website, and local media outlets—WCCO
Channel 4, KMSP Channel 9, and KARE Channel 11. Please remember
to keep your contact information updated through your parent portal in
Infinite Campus. Questions? Please contact the school office. Click here
