Chocolate Milk-the Perfect Recovery Drink

What is it?
The Idaho Dairy Council is pleased to sponsor the “Refuel with Chocolate Milk” funding
opportunity. Emerging research supports that drinking milk can be an effective way to help the
body refuel and recover after exercise. Milk is an ideal beverage to drink after a workout
because every serving contains the appropriate ratio of carbohydrate to protein to promote
effective recovery and electrolyte replenishment.
Why should I apply?
Foods and beverages that teens, athletes in particular, choose to consume are very important.
Healthy refueling can help improve performance and endurance, as well as prevent
dehydration, fatigue, and injury. Chocolate milk is a nutrient-rich after-sports beverage that’s
convenient, cost-effective, and a delicious way to help your athletes perform their best.
Who is eligible?
Any public, charter, or private high school or junior high/middle school coach or athletic director
in Idaho; who advocates for chocolate milk as a nutrient-rich beverage for their student athletes.
What are the Requirements?
• The coach or athletic director must provide data for milk ordered at the end of the
season.
• Must provide testimonial via Facebook, Twitter, and/or blog.
• PSA acknowledging chocolate milk is provided to athletes by Idaho’s dairy farm families.
When do I apply?
Applications must be submitted via email, fax, or mailed by the start
of each Fall, Winter, and Spring sport seasons:

How will grants be awarded?
The process is competitive and is open to all school sports teams. The detail of your application
will enhance your opportunity. Recipients of Refuel with Chocolate Milk will receive a credit, for
the current sports season only, of up to $500 of chocolate milk through their school’s dairy
distributor and an insulated “Idaho Dairy Council” cooler bag to transport milk to games,
matches, or tournaments. You can expect to be notified via email of your application status.
