P6 November Home Learning The activities in bold with an asterisk must be completed. All others activities are extension tasks. In addition, continue to discuss and read your reading book each week and revise the spelling the patterns on the reverse of this sheet (using ideas from the ‘spell well activities’ sheet) Pupils will have an opportunity to share their learning with other members of the class and display their work on the home learning wall on the dates highlighted below. Block 1 Sharing of Learning Opportunity – w/b 14th November *MATHS* I am learning about improper fractions and mixed numbers. Fraction Dominoes – as explained in class Use small rectangles of paper/card to create your own set of improper fractions and mixed number dominoes. Use these to make a loop of dominoes where the improper fraction on one domino is equivalent to the mixed number on another. Please use coloured pen to make them look attractive. We will be playing these in class so please be prepared. *JASS* I am learning to be responsible and work towards achieving the Bronze award by planning my time and keeping my folder up to date. As discussed in class, please decide on what you would like to do for the sections ‘Get Active, Stay Active’ and ‘My Interests’. Choose which one you want to start with - you might even be able to do some of both. Remember this is your responsibility so please keep your folder up to date and bring it in each time we share our learning. Practise these activities throughout the month: Block 2 Sharing of Learning Opportunity – w/b 5th December *Spelling* Complete Spell Well activities using spelling words overleaf. *HEALTH & WELLBEING (Bikeability)* I am learning to cycle safely on the road. Practise the lifesaver look, correct signalling when turning left or right and remember to adopt the primary position (not too near the gutter or too far out). Please check your bike and helmet before you go cycling. LITERACY – TALKING & LISTENING *Reading* Read for Enjoyment every day. _______________________ *NUMERACY * Please practise every week. I am learning to say the number before or after in a sequence. Cool – Say the number before/ after in 4,5 and 6 times tables, (e.g. what is 5 more than 25?) Hot – Say the number a tenth more/less than, (e.g. what is a tenth more than 6.2?) Spicy – Say the next 3 numbers more/less than, in tenths, then in three tenths, then own choice, (e.g. What are the next 3 numbers going up in 3/10ths after 6.2?) Make sure that you practise counting backwards twice as often as you practise counting forwards Talk homework will be issued in class following our writing sessions. *WHOLE SCHOOL FOCUS* Learning for Sustainability Goal 13 of the Global Goals for Sustainability is to take urgent action to tackle climate change. This month, take some time to find out about climate change. What is climate change? What causes it? What impact does it have? If you have time, start to think about what you could do to make a difference: perhaps there are things you could do at home or school to save energy. Present your research and/or ideas in any way you choose and bring it into school to share with the class. You can find out more at this website: http://worldslargestlesson.globalgoals.org/globalgoals/protect-the-planet/ *SPECTACULAR SPELLING* Prefix – “co” co-education coincidence co-starring co-writer Suffix – “hood” childhood fatherhood knighthood motherhood neighbourhood Prefix – “un” unaccompanied unachievable unannounced unarmed unashamedly unattached unattractive unavoidable unaware unbeaten unbreakable *SPLENDID SPELLING* Prefix – “de” demist deflate de-ice defrost decode debug Prefix – “re” refill reform refresh refuse repay replace replay return reuse revisit Prefix – “non” non-drip non-smoker non-starter non-stick non-stop nonsense *SUPER SPELLING* Comparative change “y” to “ier” angrier busier chillier clumsier cosier crazier dirtier dustier funnier happier healthier heavier Comparative change “y” to“ier” hungrier lazier lonelier lovelier luckier merrier nastier noisier prettier sillier tidier -iest angriest busiest chilliest clumsiest cosiest craziest dirtiest dustiest funniest happiest healthiest heaviest
