Introduction
Much more than just the sun, sea and sand usually associated with a Caribbean island,
Barbados has an incredible range of holiday activities for almost every interest and taste.
In fact Barbados boasts of more attractions per square mile than any other Caribbean
island! With a distance of 34 kms (21 m) in length and up to 23 kms (14 m) in width,
covering an area of 432 square kms. It is situated in the western area of the North
Atlantic and 100 kms (62 m) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean sea. The
origin of the name Barbados is either Portuguese or Spanish meaning "the bearded
ones". TheIsland boast sunshine all year round so there is no bad time to visit. Spolit for
choice with beaches, there are also many other interesting sights to see including the
world heritage UNESCO site in the capital, Bridgetown.
Flight time from the UK is approxiamtely 8 hours, with a time difference of -4hrs GMT.
British passport holders do not require a visa prior to departure, however other
nationalitles will need to check before travelling. The Barbados Dollar is the main
currency however US Dollars are accepted in most places as well as ATM machines
widely available.
There have been some reported cases of the Zika virus on the Island at the beginning of
the year, however please follow the Foreign Offices’ travel advice;
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/Barbados. Be prepared with mosquito
repellent and a high factor suncream during the hours of 11.00-15.00, as well as staying
hydrated throughout the day, drinking the tap water is not recommended.
Itinerary
Day 1
Departure from London Gatwick South Terminal
to Barbados on Virgin Flight – VS29
The group should arrive no later that 2.5 hours
prior to departure. Luggage allowance is 1 x
23kg per person plus one sports bag per person.
10.05 Flight departs London Gatwick
A Smile Group Travel representative staff
member will be present to assist with check in.
Upon arrival in Barbados (local time – 4 hours
behind the UK)
You will be met by our local staff representative
and transferred to Dover Beach Hotel
(approximately 30 minute drive) where you will
stay for 10 nights on a B&B basis.
